That seems like a pretty fine distinction to me. For virtually all the Mormons I know, polygamy is an unfortunate part of the sect's history that critics unfairly use to misrepresent the modern church. Many Catholics view the sexual abuse scandals in exactly the same light.
It wasnt a sect, it was the Mormon religion. As I stated before, it was in the past, I acknowledge that it is not a present belief of Mormons
Mormons and Polygamy
Polygamy was part of our past, for about 50 years in the 19th century. But it is not part of our present. Polygamy was officially discontinued in 1890 — 118 years ago.
So yes, it was an established practice by the religion, which is why it is not comparable to the scandals of the Catholic Church.
You are thinking of the FLDS group, which is mentioned in the link, they are the group that has practiced it recently.
