Anyone else irate at Musberger's announcing last night? I think he needs to retire. He repeatedly and i mean repeatedly was talking as if the game was completely over starting when there was about 6 or 7 minutes left in the game and we were only up 2 touchdowns and Mich State had 3 timeouts. If he did it just once then i could have overlooked it....but i'd say it was about 7 or 8 times he referenced a ND win. Until we made the field goal to go up 20-3 i thought Mich State was very much in the game and it was by no means over.

A lot of you rip NBC but NBC was the best announcing we've had this season. CBS was brutal. ABC was brutal. (I love how Musberger said he bet that was Manti's first ever INT last night!) Also there was a big play where ABC switched to it way too late.

I thought he made some mistakes but really didn't and don't care, cause at the time I was to busy enjoying us beating up MSU and today I'm enjoying the victory. I guess it doesn't bother me as much anymore because I figure these guys don't know ND like we know ND so mistakes will be made, hell what do Herbie and Musburger call one ND game a yr? Its way more annoying to me when the same announcers call every ****in home game and STILL **** **** up! All and all I give the NBC/ABC boys a B grade.

No issues with it. I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Rigth on. How many times did they mention how good NDs defense was? Or how good ND as a Team was playing? And giving us props for how fast as a team we are? I liked the positive comments about our Football Program.

Yeah, I hated that he was calling the game as over with so much time left. I was trying to avoid flashbacks to the Mich. game last year.

Seems like there's complaining about announcing after every game. I personally am not a fan of Tom Hammond at all, and there's a separate thread on this site just about him, I believe. How can anyone take the Hammond complaints seriously when some ND fans complain about every set of announcers?

I gave up on Mushburger 10+ years ago, and I've never been a Herb fan. I too was surprised that Mushburger seemed to be conceding an Irish win a bit early...but I guess it was setting him up for an unbelievable miracle Spartan comeback to yack about.

I like Hammond and that kind of the basis of my post. NBC and him get ripped a lot. I think they do a great job and ABC and CBS do lousy jobs. Part of my "Musberger needs to retire rant" was aimed toward a message of "let's appreciate NBC".

I felt the exact same way. In the past 20yrs I've seen us blow alot of games in the last minutes hell even the last seconds it felt like he was trying to jinx us. Haha Other than that I did enjoy the commentary though. Now I can go back rewatch the game and enjoy it I never can the first time around.

I have no problems with it. I would have been pissed if we had given up that lead, but not at him.

The word must have got to Kirk and Brent pretty quickly after the game that Golson is considered a (RS) Freshmen in terms of the rest of NCAA. They consistantly kept referring to Golson as Golston, and they kept stating he was a true freshmen. Do your homework if your going to be calling a big time game like that. I mean they had to of had the roster in front of them at some point.

I still like Kirk though, he's very unbias and will admit when he's wrong like he did last night. He was, as well as everyone else, was completely surprised by the performance our front 7 brought.

I happen to really like Herbie and Muss.

I think they're a good, fair, well informed (for the most part,) duo.

Being 45 years old, Musburger has been a part of my sports-life for all my life. Iconic, to the point, and brash. So he made a couple of mistakes, big deal. He is one of the last great icons of sports reporting and deserves to be respected. He also made a hell of statement last night, "...they have always been relevant, just not winning". And again, he is right.

No problems here either, Herbie even said multiple times how fast we looked and that he'd been critical of ND in the past but he thinks we're for real.

Announcers aren't going to please everyone.....as much as I can't stand Tom Hammond, he's paid to do a job, as is Musburger. I thought Herbie did a fine job, even when they discussed that ND isn't "back", but that they are a much improved team, with overall team speed much improved.

I loved that statement, too.

Putting Herbstreit in his place just a little bit was a nice touch. But overall, they did a very good job. And ppl complaining about Golson being called Gholston need to relax. Their names are VERY similar sounding, and as far as I could tell it did not happen much at all unless they were both involved in the same play, which did not happen that often either.

That is the problem right there. You are the one person who actually likes Hammond.

Herbie has been one of the so called experts who has stated we were average athletically and questioning NDs relevance. Nice how they are changing their minds. Next they will be downgrading our strength of schedule etc.

Like others have stated I was pleasently surprised by the announcing of the game. Herbie really seemed to praise our speed, which as we all know, is something he was very VERY critical about over the last 5 or so years. I enjoyed the entire experience last night.

Um, considering the fact that ND has never been in the NC title discussion since Oct. 2002, or for the entire time that KH has been working at ESPN, he has EVERY right to question ND. Everyone has had the right to do so.

Whether or not ND fans like to admit it, the team has been on a downward spiral since 2002, and we are just not hopefully coming out of it.

And everyone rated this schedule as the hardest in the country, which is why I think we still need to temper our expectations for this team...and be thankful that the experts have been picking against ND for the last decade, because if the program thought there was nothing wrong with the team, then they never would have been driven to find a guy like a Kelly who was interested in the program and rebuilding it from the ground up. Using the same formula as Lou did (Defense first, then offense), coincidentally....or not so coincidentally when you look at the last seven BCS champions. ALL of them had STOUT defenses, and good offenses. While the offense for ND is not CONSISTENTLY good yet, it is getting there and I think that is what I like to see the most.

GO IRISH!!

The announcing was fine except for Brent saying "check that" on every other play after getting a players name wrong. I think NBC does a much better job, production wise, with directing camera angles and getting replays in etc..

You can't be serious? Hammond consistently mispronounces ND's players names, week after week, and constantly confuses which player is on the field when the player has a dual number.

Top Three Mush-Burger Gems Last night:
1. Manti's 1st INT.
2. ND's easy schedule.
3. Brady Quinn won't play as long as he's behind Peyton Manning in Denver.

I'll give Herbie cred for owning that he has said ND is irrelevant and that they are not (no longer). Gained much respect there.
I can't deal with talking heads that just word vomit during a game like Musburger did last night, do your job and know what the hell you're talking about.

Super respect for him telling Frosted Tips that ND is ALWAYS relevant, just not winning.
Extra Gem: I was unaware that Brent was such a huge Dave Matthews fan! :)

999, 1 to go.

Jho15... I'm waiting for the day Hammond thinks Manti is in at QB not #5 EG... I truly believe it's coming :)
