Never once did I say that I was talking about kids that committed to ND. I'm talking about kids who all ND fans assumed was in the lead, kids who say all the right things about ND and who fit the ND mold, but yet never commit to ND despite multiple trips and opportunities to do so, and end up going to another school. This happens quite a lot, where ND fans just assume we'll land a kid b/c of all the things I mentioned above.
I remember a DL from Minnesota about 4 yrs ago (Beau Allen???) who all ND fans thought would be Irish if CW would just offer him. And when CW FINALLY offered him, he didn't commit, but we got into his top 3. But despite saying all the right things, he never committed. He never truly WANTED to be Irish. (And that's OK btw.) This happens a lot. I think the players love the idea of playing at ND (esp their parents), but they don't truly want to be here.
And that's when a state school comes into play. David Amerson comes to mind as a player who visited ND, said he loved ND, and then went to his state school of NC State.
All I'm saying is that Anzalone seems to be one of those kids who really likes ND but doesn't seem to truly want to be at ND. Thus the confusion, the changing of minds, the unexpected visit to PSU, the stories of ND leading, then FL, then PSU.
Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. And this is nothing against Anzalone. He's obviously a confused teenager making the most important decision of his young life. It's not easy, so for me, he's good in my book. Just hope he chooses ND and sticks with it...
