Also, I think if Alex chooses Penn State it will simply be because it was the best overall fit. Can't fault that decision at all. You have to go where you're comfortable or you'll end up being an Aaron Lynch. He obviously has some interest in the big state school atmosphere with his interest in Ohio State, Florida and Penn State. Can't discount the proximity home either. Of his top group, as they say, one of these is not like the others.... if he does end up picking ND it will be for similar reasons. As much as we're making about the business school thing, at the end of the day it's a much more holistic decision than we often appreciate.

Yup.
Wish him the best and move on. And no matter the Sandusky thing, Penn State is a great school. A kid could do a lot worse.

"In overall rankings for 2012, Mendoza's undergraduate business program was ranked #1 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek,. Rankings for its MBA program include #24 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, #25 by U.S. News and World Report, and #31 by Forbes. In global rankings, Mendoza was ranked #40 by The Economist and #80 by Financial Times. Its Executive MBA program was ranked #20 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
For 2011, the Aspen Institute, which ranks institutions on how well schools incorporate issues concerning social and environmental stewardship into the curriculum, ranked Mendoza #4 worldwide."

And per the Wall Street Journal, ND's EMBA program is ranked #6, and improving. I saw somewhere that it was rated #9 ROI EMBA program in the world, can't find the source right now.

So let me get this straight.. He abandoned tOSU ship because he was hanging known sex offenders and is about to pick PSU?

Frankly if I am a recruit I am not touching PSU with a 10' pole. Waiting to see what kind of crap comes down the river isn't exciting, and you know its coming.

That was the rumored/assumed reason because of the picture, but I for one, do not believe that is the real, or at least the whole reason. I'm not leaning either way, PSU or ND, but which ever he picks will be a good fit for him for various reasons. Good luck to the kid if he chooses Penn State and welcome home if he chooses Notre Dame.

When a kid is apparently a great fit for ND, says all the right things about ND, keeps coming back to ND, but continues to visit other schools and is constantly rumored to have THOSE schools eek out in front of ND, then usually that kid is not coming to ND. It's like kids like that are looking for reasons NOT to come to ND. Maybe, as has been said, Alex just doesn't truly want to come to ND.

I hope he proves to be the exception to the rule, but we've all read this script before, and it never ends up good for ND. Hopefully Alex proves me wrong...

Ain't that the truth. That is the best way to explain the way things seem to be going right now with his recruitment. I hope that is not the case as well and he chooses us too!

If it was me and I was announcing a commitment to ND:

I would announce at The Opening

If it was me and I was announcing a commitment to PSU:

I would wait till NSD to see what comes out of the Freeh report and see if any serious sanctions would be handed down.

This is how I see it as well. Hoping we are right.

I just looked at Alex's tweets and he retweeted the following from a pOSU fan.

Ronald Caruso ‏@areseaoh44

@Niebuhr247 @alexanzalone_24 @TheOpening2012 note to AA...it's all about you...who cares where you go...you are a DIVA!

I guess he's tired of taking crap from pOSU fans and thought he would make this douche look bad by retweeting his stupid remark.

Did Lord play football at Penn State? Otherwise I don't see what this has to do with what I just posted haha... although I do understand what people are saying, you can be successful just about anywhere you go if you're willing to work at it. Every major college in the country has distinguished alumni they can point to. With 11k+ kids a class, some are going to go on to do great things.

Haha. Not much to do about anything other then random fact. Sallie Mae and Freddie Mac are across the street from each other too.

As for Alex, whatever he chooses is cool. The looming sanctions are just something I hope he considers.

I worked for Sallie Mae for 13+ years before a majr layoff of 3,000+ staff. Why did SLM layoff? Because Mr. Al Lord (who thinks of himself as some type of god) took the SLM stock from $60 per share to $7 a share in less than a year. I lost approximately $150K in stock that was issued to me as part of my bonuses. I'll never see that money again. An Einstein he isn't.

I'm not sure that applies here. With some of those others, they commited to ND, but rumor and specualtion continued and a lot of us had bad feelings about them. Alex has taken his time and hasn't said one way or the other where he was going. I think he was smart to take all of his visits even if ND wowed him over. Just because his visit at PSU went well doesn't mean he isn't leaning to the Irish. Even if he had a crappy visit to PSU, he doesn't strike me as the type that would state that. Maybe he didn't want to hurt the PSU coaches feelings. Besides, it's easier to tell them no over the phone or thru a press conference than in person.

I agree with what Irish #1 said.

I think this scenario better fits PSU as it pertains to Alex. PSU is the hometown team and he's probably visited PSU twice as much as ND or Florida. PSU never really seemed to be the leader. In reality, I don't think that's the scenario with PSU either, just that PSU would seem to be a better fit for it as it pertains to Alex's situation.

So IF Alex picks PSU, who do we go after next for the 4th linebacker spot?

I wanna say that Victor Egu would be next on the board. I believe he is still scheduled to visit this summer. Still optimistic Alex ends up Irish though.

Let us also remember that it is an awful long way until signing day too, so if he does commit to Penn State it may not be over depending what else comes of this.

As of now though who really knows what he will do. I got my fingers crossed that he will be Irish.

Yea, I don't think Penn State will have that great of a season. Granted, I have not looked at their schedule.
