It's just a tough situation any way you swing it. I see both sides on it and feel that you both have great arguments. In the end though how Alex feels is what will count and I respect him either way. I will say if he does choose them over us I truly believe it will be for all the right reasons. It's always hard to move away from home and turn down the state school and on top of that he could want to be apart of changing the perception of the publics view of the school. I don't have any idea what he is thinking but like I said if that is the best situation for him then I understand. Of coarse in the end though I want him here!

I don't I am with Tadman on that. Some may actually have altruistic motives. You can never get in anyone's head.

However, from a future standpoint, even for football, I have to feel that anyone that committs to PSU now has a screw loose.

So, I went out and had a great afternoon, and watched my kids play. A thought came to me. The difference between late teen and mature parenthood is doing for others before doing for you. These kids are hard wired to think of themselves first. One may argue it goes to the survival of the species. Only a few at this age are wired otherwise (Jaylon Smith - true alpha male - also survival of the species).

When you become like us, you embrace doing for others. That is survival of the species, too. We would give up everything so others could live. So putting others first can be good. But then there is a more sophisticated response. I think I can sum it up best. About 20 years ago I witnessed a drive by shooting, in Chicago, and a news reported interviewed me. She wanted to get me to say I would shield my kid, this parent hadn't. Even though there probably wasn't time, she wanted me to bite. I looked her in the eye, and said, "I don't know about being the kind of parent to die for my kids, but I sure as hell am the kind that would kill for them!"

The point being, there will be an aggressive take on this situation that will affect all commits as competitors and when everything comes out, including whether PSU will have a football program, we will see . . .

.

Maybe i'm misunderstanding, but as a parent isn't it your job to shield your children from danger?

From the kids point of view I feel they think they start something new at PSU. When kids visit ND everyone wants them to take the party/sites/scenes/weather/etc out and focus on academics/tradition/campus/prestige/etc. Penn St kids Im sure have to consider that the Sandusky thing happened, but he is locked up, Joe Pa is gone, and Im sure the current coach has a great vibe going there. I actually respect each and every kid that does verbal there as well as visit bc they know there could sanctions, as well as the jokes from their friends and fanbases. I want Anzalone in the Blue and Gold as much as the next guy, but with him being from Penn St I could see Brenemann and him being the hometown kids that stay in state to start the next chapter at Penn St.

What happened there was disgusting and terrible, but just as when ND is good, when Penn St is good college football is well. The current coach there had nothing to do with Sandusky, and yet had the balls to take that job. I def have a lot of respect for that and I def feel for that team bc lord only knows what they have been through mentally.

How better than steering them away from trouble, making sure they are safe, even when they say they hate you for your concern, and blowing the shiit out of any malfeasant who attempts to harm them?

Wouldn't that be a bit awkward if he didn't commit to ND?

For a minute, but these kids have great heads on their shoulders. They both know the difficulties and individual reasons why one does or does not chose their respective schools.

Or it just means that Devin knows that Alex is Irish. Silent commit.

If he is indeed rooming with Butler, then I reaaaaallly like our chances.

I mean, they both play defense as well. There hopefully is a bond there.

I should have said, is hoping to room with Alex. I don't know how the roommate situation works out, but Devin is HOPING to room with him per ISD.

Prevailing thought is PSU. Don't get your hopes up. Hopefully people are wrong.

It's funny to me that ND had two prominent players in the serious male sports (basketball/football) graduate with MBAs. Cwynar has asick job with IBM, Abro I'm not sure if he's decided what he wants to do yet... might try playing pro ball first. How many Penn State scholarship football players have graduated with an MBA in the past... I dunno... 5 years?

Proof is in the pudding, Alex. Good luck in your choice.

The CEO and Vice-Chair of Sallie Mae is a graduate of the Smeal College of Business. Just saying. haha

"In overall rankings for 2012, Mendoza's undergraduate business program was ranked #1 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek,. Rankings for its MBA program include #24 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, #25 by U.S. News and World Report, and #31 by Forbes. In global rankings, Mendoza was ranked #40 by The Economist and #80 by Financial Times. Its Executive MBA program was ranked #20 by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
For 2011, the Aspen Institute, which ranks institutions on how well schools incorporate issues concerning social and environmental stewardship into the curriculum, ranked Mendoza #4 worldwide."

When he used "really" twice in his comment after his PSU visit, it seemed foreboding.

I'm reluctant to say it, but I think he's a Nittany Lion.

At which point we will have fully taken it in the Johnny zone where this guy is concerned.

Did Lord play football at Penn State? Otherwise I don't see what this has to do with what I just posted haha... although I do understand what people are saying, you can be successful just about anywhere you go if you're willing to work at it. Every major college in the country has distinguished alumni they can point to. With 11k+ kids a class, some are going to go on to do great things.

Also, I think if Alex chooses Penn State it will simply be because it was the best overall fit. Can't fault that decision at all. You have to go where you're comfortable or you'll end up being an Aaron Lynch. He obviously has some interest in the big state school atmosphere with his interest in Ohio State, Florida and Penn State. Can't discount the proximity home either. Of his top group, as they say, one of these is not like the others.... if he does end up picking ND it will be for similar reasons. As much as we're making about the business school thing, at the end of the day it's a much more holistic decision than we often appreciate.
