Does anyone have any word on his scUM visit this afternoon? I hope I don't get bitched at for asking, cause I know everything is always updated that ever happens but what the hell, I figured I'd risk it....Forgive me GB ;)

GB is currently camped out in Josh's bedroom closet. No cell phone coverage, so he will report back once Josh wakes up from his nap and he can make an escape.

LOL. I'll go on record as saying this request for news should be totally kosher. Unlike news of a visit to ND, news of a visit to UM may very well not be posted as a matter of course. But I've heard nothing about it.

Not sure I can remember seeing a guy so nimble and so big at the same time. He'd be great for us.

So no one has any test scores or GPA? I'm hedging my enthusiasm until I see he can get into ND and succeed it in the classroom. Peoria schools are awful.

Ugh, he liked the visit a lot. Likes the coaches, especially because they are excited about him and he feels he can trust them. They said he'd be competing for early playing time. Very impressed by the Big House. Michigan is high on his list. "It's really hard to decide." per 247.

I was kinda expecting it...kinda sucks he split his day with a visit to scUM and us. I hope we get him back on campus.

The last Peoria Central player that Notre Dame had (maybe the only one) was Bob Jockisch in the late 60s. Jockish was a big star at Central when I was in grade school in Peoria. I didn't know that he had headed to Notre Dame after HS until he showed up in the Irish starting lineup at DT his sophomore year at ND in 1967 (such was the level of 'recruiting news' back in the day).

Peoriairish-I read on a Michigan Blog site that the Peoria Manual kid that just committed to Michigan (Tulley-Tillman) is transferring to a Michigan HS for his senior year. Do you know if that is true? If so, I can't image that the Peoria HS coaches would be too pleased to see their players being recruited by the Wolverines.

P.S. I went to Peoria Spalding. Spalding sent many players to ND over the years that it was in existence.

Yes, it's true, and no, they are not happy with UM...

Yeah it's true about Tuley-Tillman. Richwoods isn't a terrible school and Peoria Notre Dame is decent, but Manual and Peoria High (Woodruff closed down a few years ago, dispersing the kids to Manual and Peoria High) are pretty bad. I really hope that Josh has the grades and test scores to succeed at Notre Dame cause this kid is a beast.

I would say that I'd go check him out this year, but I'm too scared to go to a Peoria home game. Maybe I'll check out some away games this fall if he's still deciding or commits to ND.

4 team race at the moment:

Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, and Notre Dame.

Wiltfong really likes Illinois chances. Oregon and Alabama are showing increased interest.

New coach fever plus Whitney Mercilus should help Illini

Yeah and the Bailey commitment doesn't hurt. Illinois has a pretty good recent history of good DTs too. Whatever the case, I don't want him at Michigan. He's a stud.

Per ESPN:

The in-state Illini could be in the best position and are making a strong impression, but it would not be wise to count out a program like Notre Dame. Augusta's recruitment is just getting started.

Anybody know where the Illini love is coming from? Is it just that it's close to home for him?

If so, I like our chances. We aren't much farther away, we're a better team, and he'll get a better education.

Seems all but in the stars...

I know this kid is bigger but reminds me of Melvin Ingram with his athleticism.

Yes it's because they are the home state school.

His athleticism for his size means he could reek havoc just about anywhere on the field.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the middle of our defense though.

This kid is awesome, of course! But after some of the conversations over the last couple weeks. Can you imagine this kid in Longo's program for a couple of years?

Illinois actually has a good class thus far and some decent momentum. Beckman has done well on the recruiting trail without playing a game yet. Just extended an offer to Spearman and that could entail another visit from Spearman and Treadwell. Recruits like what is going on down there, and the commitment of Aaron Bailey really helped it out.

And having said that, I know Illinois doesn't compare eye to eye with a Notre Dame education, but it is still a high quality one to obtain. I should know, I went there :smilewink

Just to clarify, when I said that he could better education at ND, I didn't mean that as a slight to Illini. I just meant that ND provides a better, albeit not by a huge margin, education than Illini.
