We're all talking in hypotheticals that WON'T happen. There is a 0.00001% chance of getting both Heargraves and Alexander. And probably only a 5% chance of getting one.

LAX you are much deeper into the recruiting world than I am. So I say this in all humility. I'm not sure if you are attempting to deflate some of the OVER enthusiasm about the possibility of Alexander coming to ND, which I would agree we are getting a little too excited about the possibility. However I have a hard time seeing how we would only have a 5% chance of landing him. It is a significant thing for an athlete to visit a school. Out of all the schools some of these recruits get offered by, only a handful get visits. Even more, it is also not the norm for a recruit to visit for the length of time Alexander will be at ND. Now, I am not at all suggesting that this means he will give a verbal and then sign with the Irish. I'm just saying can't we bump that possibility up to at least a 25% chance?

Again I understand if you were looking to bring some perspective to our excitement.

I think it says a lot that he is visiting. Didn't someone say the other day that his brother had a visit scheduled for Clemson and they didn't make it due to lack of funds? I am no genius but it has to be cheaper to make it to Clemson that to S.B.

I posted several items that I gleaned from the volnation board. There was one poster from Florida that stated that the Alexander family didn't have a lot financial means and it was his speculation that it was part of the reason why he cancelled his trips to Clemson and pOSU. I would definitely not state that as fact. Just one person's speculation.

Honestly, that doesn't make much sense. If the family doesn't have the financial means to visit Clemson, why go to South Bend on your own dime? Why not wait until the season and take an official to the schools that are farther away?

Either way, I'm tickled shitless that he's coming. If there's any ounce of truth to those posts on Volnation, then that speaks to where we stand with him.

This was the point I was trying to make. Thanks Rack'em

WTF???

WTF???

Irish Illustrated ‏@NDatRivals
Interested if Notre Dame can convince 4-star corner Mackensie Alexander to do early enrollment, i.e. don't go home and play at ND now.

It's a joke about Alexander being able to play this year.

Considering ND's secondary situation he probably could start right now.

Yes, 5% and .0001% were hyperbole meant to curb the rampant hypotheticals being thrown around. They weren't meant to be actual percentages.

Pulling a guy from the south that is being pursued by every major school and had previously committed elsewhere........ can't put any kind of accurate number on him in June. Check back with me in December and I'll give you some real odds.

Is MacKenro on the visit with him? I know he is a low 3 star and not ranked as highly but I wouldn't mind taking MacKensie and MacKenro and call it a class at corner

I might be wrong but I think hes a high 3 star on 247. 88 rating I think? I would definitely take both, it would be a good deal.

His brother would be a welcome addition to the team. He's built and from the scouting reports, plays like a FS. Reminds me a little of Slaughter to be honest. I would take Mackenro without a problem.

I was wondering the same thing. Seems strange that the family would make a visit and leave his brother, who may very well be hearing from Notre Dame at some point, behind, save for some conflicts.

he is what we call ... a pessimist

We don't know who our starting qb is.
We have numerous questions in the secondary.
We just lost the best wide receiver in school history.
We lost our only real pass rushing threat this off season.
We are coming off an 8-5 season and we're a high school cornerback away from a BCS game? I'm a pessimist? Realist perhaps; pessimist? Not so much.

This team is taking strides in the right direction and I have faith in this staff but I'm just "keeping it real."

We don't know who our starting qb is. True. This is our biggest question mark on the team in my opinion.

We have numerous questions in the secondary. Just two really, the CBs. Saftey is set.

We just lost the best wide receiver in school history. True but we still have guys that can catch.

We lost our only real pass rushing threat this off season. Not our only, just probably our best. I think our defense looks more aggressive this year with linebacker blitzes like during the bowl game. Teo will have a lot of sacks this year. Our DL is going to be much better this year than last. Might be best in the country. No one will run on us.

We are coming off an 8-5 season and we're a high school cornerback away from a BCS game? I'm a pessimist? Realist perhaps; pessimist? Not so much. I don't think we are one player away but am pretty confident that the players will continue to improve. We are a pretty young team and by adding more play-makers just increases our chances of being very good in the near future.

We aren't as far off from being a BCS contender as you may think.

Tried really hard not to respond to this because it junks up a recruit's thread.... but....

At worst, our starter is a guy with a year+ of experience who should be improved, and he was good enough last year to keep us within a score in all but 2 games. The thing that usually improves most with experience is ball protection and decision making... hi biggest issues. That's at worst.

We have one question in the secondary; CB2.

People graduate, it's college. As a whole, our receivers (TEs included) will be quite above average.

I have no idea where to start with the Aaron Lynch thing. At best, he was a hyper talented pass rusher who was a poor fit in a 3-4 but would've been extremely valuable on 3rd downs. At worst, he was an immature and selfish cancer to the team that refused to play within the defense and we're better off without him. After talking with people this past weekend, I hear it trends strongly towards the latter.

To play devil's advocate, if you replace Gary Gray with a guy playing at Dre Kirkpatrick's level we probably finish last year 11-2. If that's what the OP was trying to say, I can get behind that.

Nailed it. What people so easily seem to forget is that is that we were 2 fluke TO's away from 10-3 and a 3rd TO away from possibly beating USC making us 11-1, in a BCS game and having an entirely different discussion. Fans must look at the grand scheme of things and think of things on their own, not just what talking heads tell them.

Back on topic, if I'm not mistaken, this is Alexander's first visit outside of Fla, which is huge. I think we have a legitimate chance at scoring him. We will know more in a few days.
