Report: Yankees, Hiroki Kuroda finalize one-year deal - CBSSports.com

By Dayn Perry

UPDATE: The Yankees and Kuroda finalized a one-year contract on Thursday night, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. He will earn $16 million with another $500,000 available in innings pitched based incentives.

* * *

CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees and right-hander Hiroki Kuroda are moving closer to a one-year contract worth about $16 million. At this writing, the deal is not yet done.

Kuroda, who will turn 39 in February, is coming off a 2013 season in which he pitched to a 3.31 ERA (122 ERA+), 1.16 WHIP and 3.49 K/BB in 201 1/3 innings pitched. In two seasons with the Yankees, Kuroda owns an ERA of 3.31, and he boasts a career mark of 3.40 across six major-league seasons.

Barring any further changes to the Yankees' rotation (certainly not to be assumed), Kuroda would likely slot in at no. 2 behind CC Sabathia and in front of Ivan Nova.

Heard a trade suggestion today that would really help both teams but doubt they ever do it.

Gardner for Daniel Murphy (Mets)

Literally a win/win

Got 2 first round picks today. Should help.

From Post #900

The Yankees will forfeit the supplemental first rounder they received for losing Cano as a result of adding Beltran. They lost their first rounder for signing Brian McCann and the supplemental pick they received for losing Curtis Granderson to the Mets when they agreed to sign Ellsbury

Did they get two more?

Wow. I never even thought of this... Interesting thought.

Sweeney Murti shot this down hard haha. He makes a good point:

Soriano wasn't really that good at 2nd when he was young - why would he even be decent now?

Valid point. Forgot about him the first go round there.

Carry on.

Wow, I watched almost every game last year and gritty gutty Brett Gardner was my favorite player on the team. Man would that hurt to see him go, even if Beltran/Ellsbury/Soriano/Ichiro is a great outfield lineup.

I'd rather trade Ichiro to the Giants or someone out West rather than Gardner. He and Ellsbury give us the speed and defense usually missing from the Yankee team.

With Tex back plus Soriano, Beltran, McCann, etc., we will still hit homers. But having homers plus speed and OBP in the lineup is huge.

I would like to keep Gardner too, but if the Yankees want a piece back that can help their lineup they'd have to move him because Ichiro isn't bringing much back.

True. I just wonder how much market value Gardner has. He is only controlled for one more year.

Either way, I am wayyyyyy more optimistic about this Yankee team than last years. The only shame is that we give up 3 picks to get all these guys (our 1st and two earned sandwich picks).

Yeah but the pitching is still cringe worth, especially if CC is last years CC.

A lot depends on what CC shows up, how Pineda comes back this year, and who the last starter is. 3 crazy variables. If we go 2 for 3 that's a home run, because Nova and Kuroda are pretty much consistent entities at a #2 and #3/4 starter.

Yeah true, still questions with it and how they fill out 2nd and 3rd.

I don't think they can trade Ichiro, anyway, without his permission. They probably need to trade Gardner -- Beltran, Soriano, Ellsbury Ichiro, Gardner are the OF, plus Wells. At least one guy has to go, and Gardner seems most marketable/moveable. Don't see them keeping Gardner as the #5 OF.

Ellsbury
Jeter
Beltran
Arod
Soriano
Teixeira
McCann
Kelly Johnson
Ichiro

Three of these guys, Jeter, ARod, and Tex may be done. I'm not taking about ARod's ban but his physical condition. Are Jeter, ARod, and Tex productive every day players? Are they even players?

Has anyone heard anything positive about them being injury free and rehabbed?

On one hand, I think three years @$15 mil per for Beltran is too much, but then I see that Scott Feldman signed a three year deal for $30 mil and, by comparison, it's not such a bad deal. It's just that 37 yr olds are going to decline and soon.

Sounds like NY offered Cano $175 mill (I suspect over 7 years), but he insisted on 10 years. Not much NY could do about that. I agree with the decision not to sign him, not because I care about the money or a luxury tax, but because it affects what you can do in the late out years -- you can't just make the guy vanish when he's 38 and washed up, with two or three years left on his contract.

With money being even, I'll take Elsbury and McCann over just Cano on his own every time...

Two all star players >>> one super star just about always

Yankee fans that go to the games-- HELP ME OUT. I have only been to two games and have the faintest idea where the delta suites are and struggled finding where they are located on the site as I saw multiple different sites. Where are they? My buddy has tickets for the game there and I am going with him.

I believe the Delta 360 seats are behind home plate, on the same level as the 200 seating. Go in through gate 4 (closest to the parking garage and Major Deegan). Go up a few levels and you're there.
