Hi guys. I'm looking for a wooden spoon. I've always wanted a wooden spoon and now I would like to get one. Can you tell me what a good wooden spoon brand is, where to get it and how much it costs? I would also be interested in how you use your wooden spoons? I've never personally used one, but I'm sure I'll be great at it. That's also the reason why I probably won't listen to any advice of yours on wooden spoons. But I would really appreciate the advice.

Is this a good wooden spoon?

I'm sure some internet bully on here will pile on me about this wooden spoon being used, but I don't want to hear about how it's unsafe or unsanitary. I just want your opinions on wooden spoons.

Thanks,

~Bug

www.crawlspacesarefun.com <------ for all of your wooden spoon needs.

Many employers will pay for your wooden spoon, and then you can screw them by quitting as soon as you get it.

Wooly me and you have had our differences but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't say something and you ended up taking some of the advice i've seen thrown around in this thread..........seriously PINE???

This is an important decision. This is a utensil you will be using for years to come. Possibly an heirloom you will be handing down to Wooly Jr some day, so make sure you spare no expense.

Firstly form follows function. What will you be doing with this spoon? Will you be stirring sauces and soups? Then a long handle is what you're looking for. Is this strictly an eating utensil? Then you want a short handle with a wide round bowl with a nice thin rim. Is this going to be a serving spoon? Then you want a short body possibly a hooked handle to catch on the lip of bowls with little to no handle to bowl transition, also possibly a flat bottom bowl that will allow the spoon to sit level on a table.

In terms of material my two suggestions would be cocobolo or iron wood. Both are beautiful hardwoods that will last a long time, and definitely be a show stopper.

Here's an example of a cocobolo spoon. I mean just look at it!

If you're thinking about getting a spoon made out of anything other than Canadian maple, you're doing a disservice to your food, and to the culinary arts as a whole

I guess I need to spend more time on the site because I'm not sure who's being flamed exactly, but I'm sure of one thing - this is internet gold. Atta boy, Wooly.

It's Koonja that's being flamed. I still have no reason why though.

Gonna guess the thread of home improvement discussions or rentals or some shit...don't recall the exact thread name...

I think the frustration has set in from that thing...but I still offered my wisdom on wooden spoons because really, who wouldn't.

HAHA I was all excited, ready to share my stories of being chased around the house by my grandmother with the giant wooden spoon that hung on the wall. But then I read the OP and realized that this whole thing was satire so I figured I'd make some popcorn and just kick my feet up.

you chose wisely...but tell me your wooden spoon story, what we know is some have heritage that is pretty adamant about wooden spoon usage...and some of us are scarred from Mommas who could wield them as disciplinary tools. Come on in...the water is fine...

Wooden spoons are also good for mixing Kool Aid. I know we have a lot of Kool Aid drinkers around here. ;)

So I'm going to whittle my own wooden spoon. Does anyone have any advice on how to stain them? How long do you wait?

Most of my stains come from spaghetti sauce. Maybe you should try that.

Didn't everyone have an aunt or grandparent that had these hanging in the dining room or kitchen

I didn't, cuz oversized novelty spoons are for the poors. As is getting beat with said spoons. All of that is for the poors.

The only spoons I want are handmade by local artisans.

They were ubiquitous in the 1970's...think they might even have been in the Brady Bunch home...and probably carved by local artisans...or small people of asian descent

The Brady Bunch was for the poors. Damned mixed family barely getting by but still employing a housekeeper? My ass... That Brady fella was dealing drugs and his daughters were running all over town. Shit was a ruse.

No info.

Wood is more porous than bamboo or metal. Wooden spoons are for the pores.

What concerns me most about this thread is the wooden spoon violence. Too many spoons broken on poor little children. Do we really think hitting children demonstrates anything other than, if you are bigger you can resort to violence to solve your problems? Discuss

So like many of you the madre used to duel out punishment with the wooden spoon. (yes we were poor wooly).

I think it was 6th grade, came home past curfew, give the mom a little back talk on the way in, and she grabs the spoon. I finally had enough and ripped it out of her hand and told her enough.

Then when straight to my room for a month of being grounded.

Wooly needs to bring this thread up when votes for funniest poster come up. His responses have been Onion worthy.
