Who decided that using Pro Tools to snap every song to a grid and clean up every little thing on a recording to make it "perfect" and Autotuning all the vocals and using drum machines was an improvement and how it should be done??? It may be more accurate and perfectly on pitch or on beat, but that's not better. It's sterile and lifeless. How can anyone listen to music that is that overprocessed and lifeless and think it's an improvement???

Rihanna can only play in our house if there is a music video to go with it. Rules are rules.

FR. My daughter's 8, and it starts early. Women be havin' dog shit taste in music.
Can confirm, my oldest two daughters are 8 and 6 and somehow they managed to discover Ke$ha over the last couple of weeks. I could appreciate Taylor Swift, but hearing Ke$ha on the Alexa gave me flashbacks to Jägerbombs and vodka well drinks, Akon & Young Jeezy during my college years. And the type of girls I used to dance with while those Ke$ha songs pounded my eardrums. And that I do not want to explain what it means to “Brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack.”

I used to like country music as a change of pace but this is all it has turned into.

Same song, different artist, auto tuned with a BS beat instead of instruments. And it's all my lady listens to.

Bro you gotta start them early on Gregorian Chant and the Dominican Sisters of Mary praying the Rosary on Spotify. Aside from John Denver and James Taylor, that's all our 5 year old hears.

This is the way.

Seriously. My wife LOVES Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. Not MJ when he was with his brothers (she's not much of a fan), but after he became a weird, plastic-faced white woman. She likes some classical, but otherwise she has absolutely garbage tastes in music - autotuned, shallow, pop drivel. OTOH, I've battled her relentlessly for the musical soul of our 10-year-old daughter, who now is very familiar with and loves Zeppelin, Chuck Berry, early Jackson 5, (and to my enormous pleasure) Freddie King, The Stones, and most especially, the Beach Boys and the Beatles. I have 1400 of my favorite classic rock and blues mp3's on a flash drive in the stereo of my vehicle and she's familiar with the entire collection, can name almost all of the songs and artists, and has her own favorites from them. She even asked me to make her a copy of the flash drive a few months ago and listens to it on her laptop. I'm saving the world one child at a time.

That's how music snob I'm getting... even certain MJ songs from the 80s are just too plastic and not 'music' enough for me... lol... I'm not that old but I'm super grumpy old man with music.

If you're complaining about kids music, you're old.

I've always hated the garbage pop songs marketed to girls. My hatred has only become deeper, richer and more nuanced with age, like a fine wine.

It all sounds the same.

My granddaughter that's a freshman at Purdue is something of an old soul. She asked me for music suggestions from the 60's and 70's, so I sent her about 400 songs. I'm thinking about sending her a text every morning with "Grandpa's Pick of the Day".

At least some of us are raising our daughters and granddaughters right!

I got my daughter hooked on Classic Rock early. Sadly many of her friends listen to that contemporary garbage, so when they come over to play Rock Band they have no idea what ACDC is, Queen, Aerosmith, Dio, etc. They're even clueless on some of the good pop stuff from the 70s and 80s like Elton John and Billy Joel. My daughter is at least familiar with today's garbage that she chooses the older music, but it's surprising these kids' parents grew up with a lot of this stuff and haven't passed it down.

This has been my struggle,… my daughters walk up song is ‘We are the Champions’ and she loves the Eagles but yeah,… her friends get her listening to the Dance Monkey’s of the world too

Not my wife, but I think I did something right!

My youngest daughter drove me out to the ranch for branding this past weekend. She had her Itunes synced to the car.

AC/DC, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, The Who, Smithereens, Matchbox Twenty, Foo Fighters, Elton John, etc. She was singing to every song. I told her I loved her playlist and she responded, "I grew up on this stuff!".

God love her!

You like what you like and I'm not going to judge... too much.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

When it comes to female musical tastes.
My one time only tried and tested and proven to be true method.
Got my daughter to start guitar lessons while she was in her boys drool and girls rule stage. When I caught her listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn on her own I knew my test was a success.

Overly auto tuned music doesn't exactly inspire the next generation of guitarists.

Caution independent testing is still required your results may vary. Introduction to guitar lessons may lead to unwanted results.
Unwanted results would include overly loud caterwauling drifting from her room.
Overly loud caterwauling to be defined as but not limited to "musical acts" such as Kesha, Backstreet Boys, Nsync, or current "rock" acts who have a guitarist that plays one riff and use auto tune.

Possible side effects could also include the above defined overly loud caterwauling with the twist of a dieing cat singing along at full volume during her first heart break.

Said first heart break could cause issues in your relationship with your daughter when your first response is asking questions such as
"What happened?"
"Why is she killing a cat?"
"Is she possessed? Should I call the Priest?"
Or when you make statements such as
"It will be ok"
"I never liked him anyways"
"I'll take care of him"

It may also cause problems in your marriage.
The above questions and statements, but also including
"I want to be there for her, but first I need to go to the hospital and get my bleeding ears checked."
"It's just a high school relationship who cares?"
Or
"Seriously she'll forget about him in less than a year"
will lead to declarations such as
"Dad you just don't understand"
"Your a guy you wouldn't understand"
"You have no emotions"
