Watts and Offord are probably next to pop in some order. Not sure who else is close beyond maybe Nixon/2021 guys. I wouldn’t mind holding off on accepting additional 2020 commits until the season starts. I’d love to have at least four spots open for late additions like Rutherford and Foskey.

^^^ This.

Also, a 10 win ND squad has no problem flipping prospects from a team that under performed, lost coaches, or at premier programs... recruited over someone ND highly values.

Plus, I have commitment fatigue. I don't wanna be wore out when Landon Tengwell commits and only muster a... lower case boom when he drops the bomb.

Maybe I should invent Recruitnik Viagra?

There were/are 3 commitments that needed to go public. Bartleson was one. Offord announces on July 4th. And my guess is Watts is the other and it could come at any time.

They didn't want him as a true corner. They wanted him to be the CB/Safety hybrid.

DB - Caleb Offord
WR - Xavier Watts

I’d look at it something like that. Hopefully they can grab a couple of top DB’s and then they’ve basically hit all of their numbers. The rest should be BPA and whatever positions those could fit. I think DL is something they’ll continue to look at if someone wows them. Jalen McMillan isn’t a need for numbers if Xavier Watts commits but he’ll absolutely have a spot if he wants one. I’d have him in that BPA category. If ND added the above spots they’d be at 21. I think they could end with 23 and get room but that doesn’t seem to be the plan right now. Either way, ND will go into the fall with a couple of spots for flipping season.

how many DBs do you think they are taking? Should be, at most, 6 right?

As far as numbers go they could honestly take up to 7 DB’s!! However, I have serious doubts that they would ever do that. That’s a recipe for tons attrition in the future because 5-6 DB’s play and that wouldn’t be the best idea. I think right now ND would love 5 DB’s but if there’s a BPA DB as a 6th they’d take him. I’d see DB as Clarence Lewis, Landen Bartleson, Caleb Offord, and then 2-3 completely unknowns at this point. I don’t feel positive with Will Nixon and Christian Gonzalez so I think it’ll be some unknown guys going into the fall that are either flips or some 2-3* risers who have nice senior years.

Yea. 3 DB’s before fall camp starts. With 5 being the minimum (1 being a true S) and 6 being possible depending on interest. Ryan Watts still communicates with the staff. As does T. Lee. Malcolm Greene, Jerrin Thompson, and Ramon Henderson are 3 S’s that should OV in early fall.

Would gladly take Greene and Thompson as the safety's this class. Both those dudes are studs.

From the sounds of it, we might only take one true S this cycle. And that's why they've been very patient with the S board. This is one of the reasons they are looking for length at the CB position. They feel like Offord, Bartleson, and Lewis could all play S if needed.

Here's my dream season/end to recruiting. SCUM has a middling season keeping harbaugh but losing confidence in him. OSU falls apart. We flip Clark Phillips Lathan Ransom and Paris Johnson Jr. McMillin takes his ND official and flips. Braiden Mcgregor and Jordan Morant flip from SCUM. We land a yet to be determined 5 star maybe after a decommit from USC. MSU wins the integer and steals some middling UM recruits we don't want. Also we win a Natty...

I love that this is an after-thought to leaving UM a smoking pile of rubble.

I enjoy a Michigan loss about as much as I enjoy an ND win. But I hate an ND loss more than either of those by a magnitude of 20. To quote Moneyball: "I hate losing, Chavy. I hate it. I hate losing more than I even wanna win."

I don't recommend this mindset, it leads to drinking.

So does this put us at 4 commits yet to go publicly? If so, I’ll say Offord, Watts, Brunelle, and a 2021 guy

We had 3 over the weekend, which were Bartleson, Offord, and ?. Bartleson committed so that would make Offord and ?. This is new, as of yesterday, Brunelle was planning on committing to UM. So it wasn't him.

I’ll go with Offord, Watts, Brunelle and a big surprise.

For surprise I think one of Mitchell Melton, Lathan Ransom, AJ Henning, William Nixon and Christian Gonzalez. Remember, crazy stuff happens in recruiting so you never know. Gonzalez is notoriously quiet, doesn’t speak much to the media, has taken 3 OV’s and 1 UV in June, and could shut it down. Also if Gonzalez were to tell anyone of his plan it would be EJ Holland who’s been building a relationship with him for months while living in Texas. I’m not saying Gonzalez is committed but I’m guessing the 4th guy could be a surprise dude and my thoughts are Gonzalez could make sense.

Was he committing to UM because he didn’t like what ND was selling him and then warmed up to it? Or was it because McMillan was ahead of him but then went to UW?

I don’t know the validity of this so TIFWIW but a poster at 247 seems to have an in here and explained it as. The offer received at II was a committable one but it was made clear to him that it was more or less as an ATH. With ST’s being his focus and very little about his place at WR.

Obviously, Henning and McMillan going elsewhere has opened up those spots and all of Polian, Long, Kelly were able to speak with him yesterday and must’ve done a good job conveying the pitch.

Was he committing to UM because he didn’t like what ND was selling him and then warmed up to it? Or was it because McMillan was ahead of him but then went to UW?

This is what I posted in Brunelle's thread. Seems conceivable and wasn't rebutted by staff. It also jives with Polian being the guy the worked him out after camp.

This has to be Offord with a commitment set on the 4th, right?
