NDfan22 - Let me break something down for you. Dline guys....its always nice to get a 5 star. I would be as happy as the next guy if Carter, Williams, Elam, Thomas, Garrett, committed tomorrow. 5 star guys are typically kids with size and coordination at 17 or 18 years old. DL being some of the biggest guys on the field..at 17 or 18 your body is still growing and learning to function. So getting a guy like the above named is nice bc they can play spot time and most likely start by their Sophmore year.

Kids like Hayes,Trumbetti, Bonnor, Matuska, Rochell, etc are kids that are big kids but havent filled out physically and not quite their with coordination. So they are going to be a year or two behind a guy like carter/etc. BUT by the time those kids are juniors/seniors/5th year they have experienced, just as big/strong/athletic and have been in a program for 3 years. Experience in college football wins games. Prime example...Stanford. They dont have 5 star talent flowing on their dline, yet they have had a top Dline for the last 3 years.

Ideally you want a mix of 5 stars that can play and then guys that are able to develop and give you something with that 5 star bolts after 3 years.

Also, its June. Elite DL dont really commit till the end of the recruiting season. Getting Carter, Garrett, Thomas, to stop by on their own dime in the summer is huge. It shows you they are actually interested in ND, and that leads to an official. Getting kids from hours away on campus twice is huge bc ND sells itself, and the gameday experience is on par with anyone in the country. Summer visits aren't for locking kids up but to show them how ND is different and plant seeds that they can succeed in a culture thats different than all the schools they are looking at.

NDs best Dline class with Tuitt, Lynch, Ishaq didnt fall into place until January. Theres not one reason to worry about recruiting in June.

ND is ahead of the game right now in recruiting and getting kids that have a love for ND is never a bad thing, bc you know for a fact they are going to give everything they from now until they leave ND.

Best thing I got from this post is that ND still has a shot for a visit from Garrett...haha, in all seriousness great post.

I agree with all of that except the Rochell part. I think you can put him in the paragraph above.mbut we will see. Thanks for the insight TP.

If EV didn't leave, I don't think anyone would be worried about DL recruiting at all. The staff hit a homerun with him, but it wasn't meant to be.

Biggest nugget was the staff is quietly optimistic for Carter and even more optimistic with Mouhon.

?

"The vibe is perhaps even better than where they stand with his teammate, four-star LB Kevin Mouhon." Maybe that's just bad English on their part... but that sentence does not say they are more optimistic for Mouhon. It refers to the "the vibe" (implied "the vibe" for Carter as that was the only vibe referenced prior to the sentence) being "even better than where they (ND) stand for ... Mouhon." Confusingly worded, but there is no way to read it unless you're assuming typos that says Wiltfong thinks we're in better position for Mouhon.

Yeah I read it wrong I think, my mind skipped over the work "than". Even better news then on the Carter end of things.

Did Wiltfong pick Holmes as the most likely to commit next as well?

You and Steve are no better than @MWRECRUITING.

oh gosh I don't know why I still follow him...I guess just to get a laugh...just regurgitates all the stuff he sees on free sites and acts like he has a staff whenever he says "we." complete joke...whenever you see one of the legit guys tweet something he isn't far behind saying the same thing.

IMO I don't see anything happening with Blake until they have a better idea with the big fish (Holley-Thomas-Elam-etc) first

I saw this the other day but was celebrating our country's independence and couldn't post:

Wiltfong currently has ND predictions for (w/date he made prediction):

WR Corey Holmes (5/14)
TE/OLB Tyler Luatua (3/19)
WR Michiah Quick (7/3)
OL Braden Smith (3/23)
CB Nick Watkins (5/29)
LB Richard Yeargin III (6/15)

The only serious ND target he's predicted to another school is Nyles Morgan (Vanderbilt).

does he give a reasoning for the "run"? My guess it is just it's the majority of the spots we have open.

Not quite sure...it's a premium article that was tweeted. Hoping when anyone gets around to viewing it with access to give a briefing on it.

I assumed but thought I would pose the question. I am hoping it includes more insight than the obvious too!

Thanks for posting the tweet Bery.

Its just an article titled "Time For a Defensive Roll" which talks about getting Bonner and Blankenship's commitments in a short period of time and what that means for defensive recruiting. More discussion than predicting commitments. Nothing that you guys don't already know.
