Rabasa is a MLB and Jarron is going to need a year.

I can assure you if KLM/Slaughter/Cave will be back. They arent going to drop KLM it would frankly be a terrible move. As talented as the dline is they are still very young. Kap is going to provide a leadership and experience.

They will figure it out

this^

Any talk of KLM not getting a 5th is simply wrong.

Yep.
When was the last year there wasn't a transfer or two? There are Lo Wood rumors. Would make sense if other young, lesser DBs might be looking around. There are a few tweeners who are never going to play much but might be studs in the MAC (Luke Massa?). The whole Weis/Kelly guys thing. And it seems like there's always a homesick Californian around. I'd suspect there's a guy or two halfway out the door, and Kelly can help them along if he wants.

Also, dumping KLM would be very bad form. Might be different if he'd gotten to play out the season, but he missed half his senior year and is rehabbing from surgery. Cutting him loose just sucks, especially for a one-year guy. He's a good ballplayer. Probably has no shot at the NFL without another season. And is a senior leader on a unit that could use one. He deserves to come back, and we need him.

KLM isn't going anywhere this is ND NOT USC! It's situations like this and the choices our coaches make on how to handle them that separate us from schools like USC. At Notre Dame we walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

How is not giving KLM a USC type move? He would have his degree and no player should be automatically given a 5th year. I doubt anybody would argue with denying guys like Goodman his 5th year, but somehow denying KLM is shady? We deny several 5th year guys every year.

You guys may not like the move of not giving KLM a 5th year (nor would I), but look at the numbers. Unless there were some unforeseen transfers (which would be more like a USC move than not giving a 5th year) we are in the thick of it with more guys than we can take.

It's simple math.

KLM is more than a D Lineman, he is a leader with experience and a pretty good player. We need that on the Dline, that is why I think he is a lock for a 5th.

Also, we are "in the mix" with more guys than we have room for, and if we land them all we've got a nice problem to have. But it's still a long way from that.

Realistically, now that Shumate's committed we lead on none except maybe Westerkamp and it's not entirely how much longer we'll be interested in him. Yes, there's good signs lately on Armstead and Fuller and we're certainly in it for Wright and Ekanem and Neal. But I'm not sure you'd call any of them a clear ND lean at this point. Who knows, we may wind up with another year of the John Goodman Show.

(not to be a downer, but also let's not get ahead of ourselves here)

He also didn't play the last six games of the season and we are deep with young, talented guys at his position. I love KLM and would love to keep him too. But if we have to pick between not having him and playing Tuitt in his spot, that is a lot better situation then what we have replacing Cave and Slaughter. In regards to leadership, we probably need Slaughter's leadership in the secondary more, considering we will be VERY young in the secondary, and our front seven will have several returning starters and our team leader in Manti.

I repeat, I don't want to see him go, but I would understand the decision. Especially if we have a guy like Armond to fill some of his reps.

Jarron has the body to play with the big boys, but he lacks the strength, technique, quickness off the ball to play right now. Lynch benefited from a extra semester and that is why he came into his own a little more than Tuitt. Lynch had quickness and hands...Jarron doesnt have that. Jarron certainly doesn't have Lynch's motor, not too many do. Tuitt has brute strength, and alot more athletic ability than Jarron. But it took him quite awhile this year to establish himself. Tuitt, Lynch all had those qualities and that pushed them for PT over Ishaq. Ishaq has freaky athletic ability/speed/agility but he was learning a position he has never played. He didnt have the impact Tuitt/Lynch did, but he was night and day compared to the start of the year. yes, he was hurt most of the year, but jarron isnt on Ishaqs level. Is it a bad thing, hell no. I was as happy to get Jarron as anyone, but ND is at the point where we can develop talent and not throw it to the wolves right away. KLM/Tuitt/Lynch/Hounshell/Kona with Shembo/Niklas/Ishaq being able to put a hand on the ground are more than capable of holding it down with out burning Jarrons frosh year. Id say Day would more than likely get PT with the type of style he plays as well as the extra semester.

If Jarron has to play bc of injury then thats another thing and something we dont want to think about. We are getting quality depth and its not a bad thing to be able to develop talent for a year and let them get their feet wet.

Look for Westerkamp next followed shortly by Armstead/Armstead and then probably one (or multiple) of Fuller (most likely person), Neal, Yuri Wright, or Ken Ekanem depending on space considerations and/or transfers.

If we miss on Westerkamp expect Leonte Carroo to pop up on our board as our staff really wants to take another WR from all indications. Everything changes if there is a snag with Armond's transfer.

With no disrespect to either Westerkamp or Carroo, I wouldn't be upset if we missed on both. It's not that I don't think that they have potential, I am just not thinking "star" when I look at either of them. I will welcome either with open arms, but I don't see either of them as big time players on the college level. Just my opinion.

I would like to see:

-Armstead/Armstead
-Fuller (don't think it is going to happen though)
-Neal
-Yuri

Then we shut it down. On another note, how do you guys feel about us not taking a QB this class? Am I alone when I say that this is the biggest miss of the class? My love of Gunner is well documented, but it's not just that. I am super confident in Golson being able to step in, but after that, I am not confident at all. What if Golson got hurt? We would be right back in the same position we are now. I really feel like we need to get more talented at the QB position.

Even if we get Westerkamp, I think I'd like the staff to go after Leonte. Hard. I want ALL the Jersey boys: Fuller, Leonte, Shumate, and Wright. Hell, Hamilton too perhaps.

lol. If we took all of those guys, we would either need to stop recruiting everyone else, or we would literally have to not give any 5th years and possibly need a transfer. I like your thinking though.

I'd just as soon lose out on Yuri and plug in Ken, but that's just my own straw poll from out in the sticks. Extremely unimpressed with his play today.

Think I read on 4HL that the staff cooled on Ekanem and its safe to say barring something unforseen we're passing on him.

I didn't get to see him play, but didn't he have to cover DGB in a standard Cover-2? If so, I am not sure there is a 2012 CB recruit in the country up to that task.

Yuri, who arguably was on the biggest stage of his career to date looked absolutely disinterested. Completely disinterested. You'd think that this game might be a good time to come up huge...He looked like he was going through the motions on more than one occasion.

If you didn't pick up that Ekanem had been cooled on, get your feel on. He isn't off the board completely, but his visit is late for a reason.

Ideally, I'd like the remaining prospects to be the Armstead brothers, and two of Neal/Fuller/Wright.

I'd be okay skipping on another LB this year, but we really need to hit both LB positions hard next year.

... last year #1 priority was DL, this year it is DBs, next year linebackers should be the main concentration.

I'm just ticked Dolly Parton got that movie role before me. I mean, what does she have that I don't?!

Huge tits...

Kids these days, I tell ya. Dolly has been in a ton of movies. Go rent this and get your old school swerve on...
