Not logical to compare tight ends and quarterbacks are far as depth chart goes. Multiple tight ends are used every game. I believe we used three saturday. They also have very different skill sets (blocking and recieving). As a quarterback, he has the same skill set as Golson. Doesn't bring anything glarring to the table that Golson doesn't offer.

Read all of his interviews. He mentions Northwestern's coaching staff in every one. They are very close like I said.

Never said he was a long shot, as I DID say, should be a fun recruitment to watch.

It's a longshot but what are the chances of getting Calvin Johnson to return to college for a year?

Complete shot in the dark and almost wishful but how about Jalin Marshall?

Whatever we do, when you look at our O-Line flow chart over the next two years, we need to verbal/sign FOUR in this class [and paradoxically let MGolic go]. We are still light in O-Line numbers totally [not much since Prestwood and Heggie but some] and will lose TRob, Dever, Nuss and Golic. 4-for-4. Next season, four more.

Most people forget that OLs Matt James and Alex Bullard were lost to this team through tragedy. James might well be the LT right now with Martin over at RT. Regardless there are two OLs that would have been upperclassmen. Instead we have two holes in the depth chart with replacements coming from underclassmen.

Don't take this the wrong way (i.e., I'm not implying I know more than the staff) but I wonder if they wish they offered guys like John Turner (who we could offer in November if we needed and he'd still most likely come) AFTER this game so they get a chance to talk to and get a feel for some of the big fish. CJ Proise comes to mind as well.

I don't think the staff feels this way about CJ. He is an under the radar guy as far as we know.

I think they would if Brian Poole and Shaq Thompson love their visit. Just saying.

I get what you're saying. Though, I think the staff does not want only 5 stars players in their recruiting classes. Also, their evaluation of players might not be the same than us. They take in account many other things then recruiting rankings. No doubt, that the staff would take those 2 guys, but put yourself in their shoes. Do you take the risk to wait for guys that haven't really shown as much interest as you would like. It's certainly a gamble, especially since Brian Kelly is very confident in his ability to develop players. I think he likes the insurance of quality depth in his roster. Guys like Procise bring that. Also, we are in year 2 under Kelly. The waiting game will be much easier when we win on a steady basis.

I agree with what you're saying, I just don't think it's a risk to wait on someone like John Turner when his best offers are from Ball State and Indiana. They could have offered him in a month and our offer would be far and away his best opportunity. In this case, it's little risk and maybe high reward if, say, Shaq and someone like Poole want on board.

Ahh i forgot about special teams.
Well that really bites he is unreal wishin he was around next year.
thanks alot guys!

He played as a RB in both his freshman year and sophomore years. This was not simply wasting a year of eligibility; he was very big and very fast from the moment he stepped on campus. He has consistently shown flashes of talent and then made some huge mistake and lost the coaches' confidence. He also got injured a good bit. It sounds like this is the first year that he has been 100% committed.

I know we are getting visits from a lot of the big-time OTs, but are we actually leading for anyone? It seems like we our confidence that we are going to land one of these guys is based on numbers, rather than interest? What are people's thoughts on this?

Also, if we get Armistead--which I think is actually possible because are B-ball is so much better than USCs--would we consider moving Jones to the OL just for the sake of numbers? He seemed open to it, and he'd be a beast. I still like him at DLine.

You're correct that our confidence is based on the number of elite OL that have us in their Top X, and not on actually leading with any atm. Of the group, we seem to have the best shot at Stanley and Banner, but after the visits start happening, all bets are off.

With how well our OL is playing right now, I'm confident we'll get at least one. Hoping for two.

Only Rivals projects Armstead as a DE; the rest consider him an OT prospect. Conversely, only ESPN projects Jones as an OT; the rest consider him a DL prospect. I don't think we're recruiting Armstead for DL, so if he verbals, I'd expect Jones to remain a DE.

CJ Prosise can flat out play, has great ball skills and is a top 20 positional player. I have no idea what you're getting it here, he was a big pick up at the time we got him and is still a big pick up right now. Also has the ability/talent to play WR. If you saw him at gridiron kings, he is not the most explosive athlete but his hands are unreal.

As far as who's next... I'm going to go out on a limb and say Byron Marshall pops early after a big win over USC because he doesn't want to lose his spot. Chances are low, but we'll see.

I wish that I could hear what Coach is thinking now. He has 16 commits. He needs two more big uglies for the O-Line. He seems very interested in a second RB. That would make 19 commits. And that would leave about three left.

On the other hand: he has three WRs already. Because we're not going for either QB nor TE, and if he fills his four O-Line, he could rationalize saying "if we hold what we've got, plus one more RB, we'll be fine".

On defense he already has three D-Linemen and five D-Backs. But he only has Perkins for linebacker. Since I do not believe that Okwara will do anything but grow [therefore staying in D-Line], and that Baratti will not grow enough [therefore staying at safety], we are light there.

We may, as said, have three spots left after the two O-line and the second RB. Linebackers?? All of a sudden Kelly visits Agholor and considers offering his linebacker buddy. Hmmmm.

If that tandem came across, then there'd be one spot left [remember I'm assuming folks like Marshall, Stanley, and Peat or Armstead already in]. Who would that last spot be for? What position? "Best available player", regardless? Or position-specific? Can you say Odenigbo?

People talk a lot about Treggs, Thompson, and several other flashy high-octane talents. There just doesn't seem to be legal room for them in the "85". Saying we just "find a way" isn't convincing. And the fact that this train is already so full makes one wonder if some of these guys are being "worked" much at all. Whoever is planning to announce on NSD better be that elusive creature the "Silent Commit".

Good post as always OMM. I would say it will be a rush for the last spot for Odenigbo or Shaq like you said and they close the door on the other.

.....Nelson says he plans on deciding in February which is at the end of signing cycle for the most part....what if those two want to commit before that...would you take them and say bye bye Nelson and Co. ..since it sounds like those two want to be together......I think I would --- two proven studs across the board compared to one and his buddy who appears alright.

There are 2 guys on offense that you can't say no to. Keith Marshall, and Nelson Agholor. Kelly made it pretty clear this past Thursday that these 2 guys are on top of the board by visiting them both.

So will we treat the situation as first come, first serve?

(Besides Agholar, Odenigbo, Treggs, Marshall, Shaq, Diamond, etc. [lol])
