Looking at the four playoff teams does anyone really think BK is in the same league as these guys? Imo Saban, Meyer, and Peterson are all on a completely different level than BK. Dabo is closest to BK imo but he is clearly ahead of BK in his ability to lead AND maintain a program.

I would not give Peterson the edge over Dabo just yet. Dabo has had to recruit in the
SE against the SEC and played very well against Bama last year. With the exception to the home loss to Pitt this year, their backyard has been theirs. He wins the big games in front of him and has been improving year over year.

Peterson has done a great job, but the PAC is a bit down this year and their out of conference schedule was pretty much non-existent this year. He's got a young team that should only improve, so I expect good things from him, but not ready to put him in the same sentence with Meyer and Saban right now. I think most of us think Bama will roll all over them. We'll see. I'd love to see Washington emerge as a powerhouse. And I would have loved to see Peterson here at ND.....

Edit... and no, BK is not near any of the 4 right now.

That he is not in their league is obvious to all IE posters save a few delusional holdouts. Unfortunately, Swarbrick agrees with the holdouts- and has now said specifically that there is no level of mediocrity that will make him change his mind.

Agree. Who all remembers the term Clemsoning? It was when Clemson would inevitably lose games in bewildering ways. Clemson also struggled to beat the top tier teams in the ACC. It seems that they have corrected those two issues and now have even played Alabama to the wire last year That is what it takes. I have not heard the term Clemsoning in over two years now because Dabo shut everyone up about that by doing it on the field and on the recruiting trail.

Not sure if this has been posted but it looks like Brian Kelly might have realized he needs to change his coaching style by letting his new DC hire his own position coaches (instead of hiring them himself).

A couple years ago he did something out of the norm by hiring a coach he has no past experience with (Mike Sanford) and now it looks like the new DC will have 100% control with who is on the defensive staff. I'm 100% on board with this.

This article must be written by The Onion. There is no way Kelly would do this. His ego is too big and he refuses to ever change his ways.

I heard Brian Kelly makes all his assistant coaches get interlocking ND/swastika lower back tattoos before he will hire them. It's no wonder no one will come and coach with the guy!

That wasn't a dig at ND football. That was a dig at the playoff committee trying to justify their terrible system. He was just making a joke about the fact that the identity of a lot of programs are wrapped up in being champions, and the playoff committee just said "Football seasons are like snowflakes" as a justification of their selections making no sense.

EDIT: Actually I should say "making fun of the fact that they are pretending that their selections make sense in that way"

People don't want Fleck solely because of his resume. They want him because he is the anti-Kelly. Loved by his players, awesome recruiter, high energy and positive attitude. In fact the only reason anyone is against Fleck is because his resume is similar to Kelly's.

Kelly had 20 years of head coach experience when he got the ND job at age 49. PJ FLeck has been a head coach for 3 years and is 35 years old. Fleck's resume is not similar to Kelly's.

travis haney heard some positive buzz regarding ND and strong as DC

That would be nice. As Crusader has said, Strong would be a great interim HC if something were to happen and the dude is a tireless recruiter. Maybe the team wins 10 games next year, Kelly bolts, and Strong takes over? Maybe he'll even end up landing a decent pass rusher...

That buzz is probably out the door already with USF open.

Strong makes sense for the USF job (if his UC contract isn't already signed).

This would be my favorite hire. Would it be the best...idk. But i like it.

Maybe he doesn't want to dive right back into a HC position. He can easily go the Muschamp route. Leave HC Florida - go to Auburn as the DC - build your confidence back up and get the HC at USCar.

Same could go for Strong. In this case he may not have to leave the school he's the DC at to become a HC again...
