Les can cobble a defense together, that's for sure.
Everyone keeps saying this, and I get it. It makes sense on the face, because LSU's defenses were always so good under him. But he is not and has never been a defense coach. His resume lists tight ends coach, O line coach, O coordinator, and head coach. He was never a defensive coach and I don't think he was ever in charge of the D at LSU. Plus he could throw a stone from his office and hit three 6'4 240 edge rushers that are frothing at the mouth to play at LSU.
Yes, LSU has had great defenses because Les would recruit great defensive players and then get out of the way and let the defensive coaches do their thing.
Frank Leahy.
Les Miles aint coming to ND, can we stop with all this silly talk?
And it's because he can't recruit here like he did there.
He'll be at another SEC school soon. I could see him at Ole Miss if they implode
he is going to wait around for 2 or 3 years and hope Ole Miss implodes??
Gonna implode this year. 4-5 loss team this year
The team that took bama down to the wire and smoked Georgia 45 - 14?
BK isnt going anywhere.
As for DC, who I want is:
1) Aranda
2) Derek Mason
3) Bo Pelini
Who ND is going to get is:
CHUCK MARTIN.
That is my prediction.
Tom Herman is not coming to ND.
He literally can recruit better (defensive) athletes than we can get... out of his backyard. Look at the roster and where the players are from:
Houston Cougars 2016 Team Player Roster - College Football - ESPN.
He has little to no academic restrictions. He takes Jucos en masse.
I love ND... but let's be honest about the situation... You'd have to be a gluten for punishment to come to ND. The recruiting is hard as hell. The academic standards are challenging. The academic load is challenging. The microscope is ridiculous. The pressure is relentless. The alumni are demanding.
The fan base is finicky at best.
And the media waits... drooling for ND to fall on its face at ever turn.
I understand the prestige of coaching at ND is enticing.... but you're constantly compared to a history that can't be repeated.
Any smart person chooses another destination easily.
Urban Meyer is a perfect example.
I have my problems with BK. But I'd be weary of him getting canned. It will be tough to replace him even as bad as things are currently.
Additionally, I'll bet you BK will drop some interesting revelations about how tough it is at ND if/when he's finally let go. His ego is too big to be fired without pointing fingers... and I think he's had to bite his tongue a number of times about the BS he's had to endure (academics, alumni, etc). His words will be warning shots fired at anyone even thinking about taking the job... mark my words.
Tom Herman has it better than 99% of programs out there.
He's going to be a statue at Houston one day.
He knows he can win multiple National Championships there. Especially after they get accepted into the Big 12.

But there are about 20 guys right now that seem rather obvious upgrades over Kelly and it's basically a guarantee that we'd get one of them.
Aranda named associate HC by Ed O.
Does his contract have a buyout? When people drop his name, what avenue do they see in which he comes to SB?
too much conflating of "replacing Kelly" vs "replacing BVG" in this thread.
2 entirely different animals
It's kind of funny to me to see people think that Notre Dame can't get a good coach. Kelly was THE hot coach leading a top 5, undefeated team in what was still considered a "BCS conference" and took the ND job.
No, ND can't go out and poach Nick Saban or something like that. But Notre Dame absolutely can get somebody who is potentially elite. The idea that most coaches want to stay at some place like Houston or wherever because of "ease" or "comfort" is wrong, and has been proven wrong repeatedly over time. Why did Nick Saban leave MSU for LSU? Why did he leave LSU for the pros?
Notre Dame is going to pay more money than just about 10 schools right now. Money matters, and exposure also matters. The only things that are prohibitive are 1) weather/location 2) national recruiting (but no more so than any other Big Ten job besides Ohio State) 3) high expectations leading to volatility. The idea that coaches are afraid of recruiting with ND's "academic restrictions" is a lie. They polled a bunch of coaches recently about which jobs were the most desirable, and depending on who was sampled and the methodology Notre Dame is no worse than the 10th most desirable and to others it is flat out the #1 most desirable gig.
ND might not get Peterson, Patterson, or Herman. ND might not be desirable to 9 out of the top 10 coaches. But there are about 20 guys right now that seem rather obvious upgrades over Kelly and it's basically a guarantee that we'd get one of them.
And this team has talent on it. Most year a very good schedule and pretty much your own channel. Plus Kelly has been given some things he asked for so why can't a new get them?
This brings another point Kelly is getting things he asked for so its fair to hold him accountable for his side of the deal.WIN
Until Notre Dame lightens up on their academic policies and test scores to get into Notre Dame it will be hard to compete with the Ohio States and Alabamas every year.
