Jimmy Clausen.

Kidding, but backup QB's do tend to make a living out of the game after their playing days.

Skip Holtz would be the obvious nomination. Also Tom Clements. They are 50 and 61 though.

Are we suppose to look into a crystal ball 20 years from now and understand who is suppose to be the next Jim Harbaugh?

Better rattle off some RKG's

No, in my original post I asked if there were any former players currently in the coaching ranks, I only listed a few recent players that could coach someday because I've only followed ND football (online subscriptions) since 2006. But no big deal, I'll just scuttle the thread, any way I can delete it?

Both come from the Lou Holtz coaching tree.

Skip fits well into the requisite annual 5 losses. In 10 years in Div 1 he's never had less than 5 losses in a season. In those 10 year's 67-61 for a 6.7-6.1 average record. But hey he didn't schedule all 1AA teams himself. Skip does have a signature win over ND while at USF. And, he whomped Rice this year at LAT 76-31. With ND's schedule he won't have to worry about losing again to 1AA Northwestern St.

Tom Clements hasn't lost a game as a head coach anywhere, perfect 0-0. ND has a stellar record with head coaches undergoing OJT, see Brennan, Faust, Weis. But he does have a Super Bowl ring. Hmmm, didn't Weis have a couple of those?

Very few programs have a Jim Harbaugh running around out there.
Michigan got lucky that a loyal alum, who happens to be one of the ten best coaches in all of football, somehow got fired the same year their coach completely lost the handle on his program. That's all this is.

Speaking of Tommy, whatever happened to him? Wasn't he returning to ND to be a GA here?

Urban Meyer, with previous Notre Dame ties, was Notre Dame's Jim Harbaugh.

Then he shunned us.

Bummer.

But not really.
