Read Dead, Ghost and Witcher 3 (just because it's so good it's worth mentioning again) are all recommended. Ghost gets super repetitive after a while but still worth playing
Anytime someone mentions this, I instantly start to want to fire up the ol' Xbox and start a new game. The only game that has ever done that to me.

Fun fact: If you change your Xbox's location to New Zealand, you can play Elden Ring tomorrow at 6 PM.

I'll try to refrain from posting anymore memes but I've been sitting on my hands all day about this and I can't stand the hype any longer:

It's between Prophet and Samurai for me, they will be the closest complement to my playing style. There is a big difference between them so I'm still uncertain which I'll choose. Started the download last night.

What class is everyone else taking?

Can anyone break down the world of this game a bit?? Is it monster fighting? Ghosts? Wars? Guilds? Or is it like Skyrim/ Witcher where there is a bit of all of that??

I've never understood the appeal of the Dark Souls genre. I too would appreciate it if someone here would give me the sales pitch.

Sucks that this won't be on Switch. I also don't have a PC capable of handling it.

"Soulsborne" games are a set of games developed by From Software that have created an action RPG subgenre (called "Soulslike" games) that generally have common elements like high difficulty, intricate world design, deliberately timed combat with hard-hitting enemies, large boss fights, sparse-checkpoints, obtuse underlying systems, and mysterious plots that are usually told through expansive lore or item descriptions and frequently attempt to mislead the player through incomplete or untrue information. The stories of Soulsborne games are typically melancholic, with the chief theme usually being the end of an era/the world and the consequences of trying to delay that end by the people in power.

They are 3rd person action RPGs with a focus on world design and deep combat. Most Soulsborne games have high fantasy medieval themes with strong influence from Japanese manga. You usually start off with a small sword fighting rats and end up with a big sword fighting Gods/Eldrich horrors. You often don't understand the full picture of the plot while you are doing these things, and are frequently being mislead by other characters who have their own secretive goals.

The creative director of nearly every Soulsborne game is Hidetaka Miyazaki. He has never made a bad video game and has been on one of the most insane creative hot streaks I've ever seen. The only game in the Soulsborne series that can be described as middling/disappointing was Dark Souls 2, which Miyazaki did not direct because he was busy making Bloodborne (one of the greatest games of all time). Elden Ring is the newest game from him, is said to be Dark Souls meets Breath of the Wild, and is now the highest ranked video game on metacritic. While it shares many stylistic and creative similarities with Dark Souls, it is a new world with new lore that has been written by both Miyazaki and George RR Martin.

Who else is playing wretch as their starting class? Club go bonk.

Wretch is the way for the first playthrough when I won't know where anything is. I love the feeling of scrounging around the first few hours and using everything I can find to help me out of desperation. I'll probably go with Samurai for my second.

So in terms of difficulty, for those playing already is it dark souls hard? I’m a wee girly man who just wants Skyrim story telling and chill,… I have zero interest in Metroid Dread meet Dark Souls meets Ninja Gaiden with dragons… is this not for me then???

I hope it's not Dark Souls hard, I don't have time for that. I'm hoping it's more Witcher 3

I haven't played Witcher 3, but I did play the new God of War on 'normal,' and got gud enough (including defeating Sigrun) that I played Jedi: Fallen Order on jacked up difficulty, and felt pretty good about myself.

Someone who has played both Soulsborne and God of War/Jedi: FA, tell me if I'm gonna have a fighting chance lol

Yeah this will really determine if I give it a chance or not... I may have to wait on videos in the coming weeks. For example, I liked Metroid Dread... but I gave up about 3/4 in because the difficulty just killed the fun of it... I'm no video game masochist. This game is so hyped that I'm getting very curious but I want no part if it's as hard as some of the comparison games being thrown about.

I played Witcher III on Death March and found it appropriately challenging but if you guys think that's Hello Kitty level difficulty then I may also have to postpone starting it until Winter when I'm ready for a real slog.

I tried to stay up until midnight so I could get an hour or so in on Elden Ring, knowing I'd be tired at work today... but I made the mistake of laying in bed and reading while waiting, so I fell short of that goal by about an hour and a half lol.

Anybody stay up late and try it out??? @Meatloaf @greyhammer90 @GoldenAura

I’ve been playing since yesterday morning by switching my Xbox location to New Zealand. Game is beautiful and as tough as any Dark Souls.

Been putting in hours here. Awesome experience so far and a beautiful world to explore. I will say, I've played every Fromsoft game multiple times through and this might be the most challenging. Love it though.

I’ll see myself out,…..
I’ll say this, the common enemies seem easier than Dark Souls so far. But the open world is less linear. So by the time I got to the first boss, I was so under equipped and underpowered that I don’t think It was possible to beat him. I tried for maybe 45 minutes with a summoner and failed to even get him half health. The good news is that it’s very easy to farm and their are 2 chained giants right outside the gates that are basically free xp as long as your not careless.

I put about 4 hours in yesterday. So far it feels like Dark Souls, but my understanding is that I'm just about to hit the point where things really open up. Got absolutely murdered by that Golden Knight over and over. I know the game was indicating I should move on but I wanted to get him. I finally gave up after about an hour of that lol.
