FYI for my fellow Kanomi worshipers --- Death Stranding is only $35 on PS Store right now.

I'm actually getting "Days Gone" which is marked down to $20. I heard it's incredible and I like the campaign/mission type games.

Please tell me you've played The Last of Us. I didn't pick up Days Gone because the trailers look like a low-rent knock off of TLoU.

I did! And loved it. I was going to hold out for TLOU2, but I don't want to wait until ~may and I've heard good things about "Days Gone".

And for 20 boners you can't go wrong.

My wife just had baby #2 so I haven't played any games in about 3 weeks. But I busted out Nioh, which was a free ps plus games a few months ago, and played a couple hours. That game is super interesting, and I think I will be addicted to it, if I ever find the time to do anything... ever again...

Also, The Witcher on Netflix is legit. My wife even loves the show. Everyone should check it out if you havent already.

Idk man, one of my favorite game-watching experiences was in the hospital after IrishLion Cub #2 was born. Everything went smooth with labor and delivery on Friday, so I got to sit with the new baby and her older brother and eat lunch while watching ND on Saturday while mom got to take a nap.

It was Ian Book's first start in 2018, against Wake Forest. The only drawback was the crappy game audio on the hospital bed remote lol.

I talked my parents into letting me get a Gameboy just so I could play Link's Awakening. "You have too many game systems already!" If they only knew now...

Definitely a fun little game, had some good humor.

Anyone else ready to girl out and decorate throw pillows in Animal Crossing?

In all seriousness, I love those games and I'm really excited to have one on the Switch.

It's just cozy. Idk. It's like the video game version of trimming a bonsai tree.

I just got done with most of the 'main' parts of Pokemon Shield, and that was kind of how I felt playing it.

They've made it so easy to play and level up your party, that even the 'grind' is relaxing and less grindy. It's not bad, just a different type of game than the nostalgic Red/Blue/Yello/Gold/Silver.

Kids these days don't know the pain of battling level 16 wild Pokemon over and over so you could collect miniscule amounts of XP and evolve your Charmeleon into a Charizard as early as possible.

Also a huge bummer that they don't really do dungeons or bases anymore.

Getting through the Rocket Hideout in Blue was more intensive than anything in the new games.

There were all my students hyped for AC,... and then me hyped for The Show and it’s minor league rosters,... I felt pretty old. Lol

Honesty Hour:

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game.

The remake of FF7 looks cool as hell though. (Kind of suspect that they’re releasing it in 3 [or more] installments, but maybe there is enough to build on from the original to justify that?)

It seems like they've spared no expense to get it right, which is good because they can't afford to screw this up with their fans. Honestly just walking around Midgar in this level of detail is going to be cathartic for a lot of people. For me, it's hearing a full orchestra playing some outrageously good music.

If you've never played one, you should give the original FFVII a try. It's cheaply available on nearly everything and most of the new ports have "cheats" built in where you can just play for the story/ environments/ music.

I just finished Link's Awakening on Saturday. I played basically the entire game up to the last dungeon, Turtle Rock, during a long weekend in January. Had to put it down bc of life. Then fired it up Saturday while the kids were asleep and finished up the game. It really made me want to start a new save in BOTW. I only beat BOTW once so far, but sunk about 120 hours into that first run.

I had a friend that had both FF7 and FF8. So I remember playing bits and pieces of those games when they originally were released. Maybe a few years later, around 2002ish, I finally played through those games start to finish, and if I had to be honest, I feel like I remember enjoying FF8 better than FF7. Haven't played a final fantasy game since.

Just bought FIFA 20. I used to be pretty amazing at it but haven't played in about 4 years.

Enjoying it so far. I'm a sucker for the Ultimate Team stuff so I haven't even started a campaign yet.

I share your concerns about them stretching the game out over 3 or more installments, feels like a complete money grab. Midgar is a big city and could do well on it's own, but I don't know about the rest of the world. Midgar made up the first 4-8 hours of Disc 1 in a game with 70+ hours into it. There was a lot more they could have done with it, but one of the coolest parts of the game was leaving the city and seeing the world is so much bigger. My biggest fear is they're going to water down a story that was already pretty perfect...most fans have only asked Square Enix to just release the 20+ year old game with updated graphics and sound.

Final Fantasy 7 is definitely a treasure though, one of the best in the series and some do consider it the best. It did a lot to bring the series to the mainstream and help Sony get their feet on the ground with the release of their first console. It's worth playing through by itself even today, I think it could give you a greater appreciation for the remake once it's released. There's some other mediums in that universe too, like Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, and Crisis Core, but for the most part they're all forgettable and mostly just serve to continue story lines or fill in some backstory.

It seems like they've spared no expense to get it right, which is good because they can't afford to screw this up with their fans. Honestly just walking around Midgar in this level of detail is going to be cathartic for a lot of people. For me, it's hearing a full orchestra playing some outrageously good music.

Cheats are for the weak! There's nothing like grinding low level mobs outside the Chocobo ranch for a dozen hours so you can kill the Midgar Zolom waaaaay before you're supposed to. Of course, learning Beta that early in the game is like a cheat itself though.

Final Fantasy VIII was kind of garbage. The graphics were better from a realism point of view, and the live song "Eyes on Me" was well done and an innovation for video games, but the story was awful and the characters were awful. That's a bad recipe for an RPG. The Draw system for magic was also time consuming, tedious, and frustrating if you're a min-maxing type of player. The only other redeeming quality I can say it had was the Card Game, I did enjoy it as a diversion...a bit of decent icing on a dry and tasteless cake. VII is almost always considered to be the superior game, and the subsequent movies/sequels they released for it should tell you all you need to know.

i did download the FF7 Remake demo last night, even though I do have it on preorder (I hope my fears mentioned above aren't true). Haven't gotten to play it yet though.

As far as what I'm playing now, I've been raiding in WoW Classic with a couple buddies for nostalgia. I've also picked up Monster Hunter World finally, found it real cheap at Wal-Mart after Christmas. Reminds me a bit of Capcom's previous title Dragon's Dogma, lots of fights against giant monsters. The combat is better though, its incredibly beefy and polished. Reminds me a bit of Dark Souls in that respect, but less frustrating while being more rewarding and flashy. If you're a fan of loot grinding (Killing/searching for creatures to collect parts for crafting weapons and armor) this game has that in spades. Fun game to play with a buddy too, I've been tag teaming it with a friend.

The part about the SOS Flare at the end is totally true too
