What video game are you playing?

hmmm, I might have to try it out... for open world games my fav is still Red Dead...

Not saying it's my favorite. There are other titles that did incredible things for their time or that are simply too wrapped up in my nostalgia for me to give up. But, when I think "what's the furthest the medium has ever been pushed?" the Witcher 3 is probably it.

Lots of similarities between TW3 and RDR. Incredible story, high quality voice acting, a huge/ open/ meticulously created world, and well-designed 3rd person combat mechanics that still don't feel stale after hundreds of hours of gameplay.

On the subject of open worlds, Bethesda needs to step up their game badly. Fallout 4 felt like something that should've come out in 2006. Comparisons to Witcher 3 are not kind.

Interesting... FO isn't my cup of tea as a story, but the outpost building and such in FO4 was fun... I still play it every now and then...

I try to limit them too... only because I feel like if I get into more than one every year or two I'll never really get my money's worth out of any of them, I just don't have the time or drive to dive into more than one and a time and it takes me forever to get a full play through.

Not quite the same in terms of open-world, but I've recently fallen down the Assassin's Creed Rabbit Hole reallllly hard.

I played through ACII, and wanted to earn a platinum trophy and get 100% completion for the first time ever, just as a personal goal...

I did that, and then immediately started on AC Brotherhood with the same goal in mind, even though I originally planned to skip Brotherhood and go straight to Revelations, which I never really played.

Way too many hours later, and I've got two platinum trophies for AC games that required stupid grinding, and now I'm trying the third.

That $100 price tag for the "Gold Edition" is pretty steep for additional content that amounts to three cosmetic items, and "early access" to new characters (does that mean EVERYONE gets access to those characters, and the Gold Edition just gets them early?)

I guess it may be worth it depending on the quality of any DLC they put out, but that can be hit-or-miss with Ubisoft.

*I will note that the Sunbeam effects included in Deluxe/Gold editions look pretty dope

Yeah I saw that... the animated part is interesting... hopefully it's a success so they find reason to reboot the series in it's original style/feel.... the last few were horrid.

Any of you fools download the For Honor beta? I played for about an hour last night.

First impression is that I found it very difficult to follow what was going on in the 4v4 game mode. The four player-controlled heroes on each team are joined by NPC armies of grunt-level soldiers. Because the color scheme is very muted, your heroes, opponents, and the soldiers all blend into one another making it difficult to identify positioning and whatnot. I'll give it another shot tonight but I don't plan on picking it up based on my time last night.

Unless of course you find some cool tactic, like perfecting a leap off of a cliff to land a downward strike onto a perfectly-positioned opponent.

Enough successful blocks during combat allows you to perform a counter attack that is quicker than the standard attacks, thus dealing guaranteed damage.

That seemed to be the SOP from what I read and for the streams I watched. I didn't *understand* quite what I was watching until I read about it. Basically, two equally-skilled players will just battle, and the hope is that you get the timing right and deal the fatal damage via counter-attack before the other player does.

There is still room for some different tactics of course, and it's moot if one player isn't blocking or striking well in the first place, but two players who have mastered the blocking technique will basically take eachother down to red in alternating flurries, hoping to be on the right end of the attack pattern.

FIFA 17... I'm in year 2021 in my Manager Mode... qualified for the Confederations Cup with Scotland (it was difficult, not gonna lie)... got to the knockouts and was up against Mexico... beat them in a hard match... went to the finals to face.............

USMNT. I built them up with youth scouted talent and they are super beastly... I won the World Cup three years back with relative ease then said, "I'm out, this is too easy"... like every position is 85 rated or higher and they have a few 90s.... almost all scouted by me with my club team and transfered out for huge sums...

anyway... I'm getting drilled all game... but they can't score. I score on a corner in added time to take a 3-1 lead and I'm like, "Shit Yeah!,... I just won the Confederations Cup!!!"

They take the kickoff and score in like ten seconds... I'm like, "Eh, they don't have time to score again, game's over"... I kickoff... their forwards (my guys) storm at me... nick the ball away and they go right down and score again... "Wat?"

Extra Time... my Scots are super gassed... but I'm holding on for PKs well enough... then, in extra time of the second 15 one of my scouted super stars breaks away and scores... I kickoff and go all out attack but the whistle blows immediately after the KO... fucking Americans.

Hm, I'm certainly not a top-level player but I honestly had no idea that mechanic existed and I was pretty consistently winning over 50% of my matches, including 1v1 duels. I found the parry to be the most effective strategy. Basically, never attack first. Wait for the other guy to attack and time the parry correctly. This causes the other guy to stumble long enough to get off a shield + sword combo.

I've always thought of taking Not Forrest or even a lower level English club since they go four levels deep in the game... I just can't do it (England)... I've also thought, "What if I do rise all the way up and I'm stuck playing in some 5,000 seater local pub league stadium....?"... I wish you could change stadiums or upgrade them as the years go by...

That would be ideal, I did get my Leeds one started, they play in a 30k stadium, so I just chose one about that size. A stadium editor would be dope, but the financial aspect of that game really needs to get revamped. I try to not abuse it, but it's hard not to. On fifa12 they made players from big clubs uninterested in joining lesser clubs, now is easy.
