How do you hate Adidas? Also, Adidas has our back.. we should have theirs. Better lace up your shell toes and ask somebody.

I don't hate anybody. I just wondered why you said what you did to So ill. As far as me wearing any shoes, Nike and Adidas are out of question for me. Neither makes a selection of adequate width in most styles. I usually am forced to New Balance for what I can get.

I miss Champion. I still buy their ND shorts and T-shirts at the bookstore. My girlfriend asked me why I always light up when I buy ND Champion apparel? I told her it was because when I was a kid that's what they wore and we used to dominate.

Damn straight! Simplicity reigned and prices (inflation adjusted) were reasonable. Both the teams and the apparel were brass tacks. Play hard, play well, win; and keep the catalogue to 8 pages of basic sports wear.

Eh, don't understand the romanticism with Champion. Those dominant teams wore Adidas and Reebok cleats btw.

"... The agreement continues a relationship that began in 1997-98 when Adidas began providing footwear for all Notre Dame teams and apparel for many Irish teams. Starting in 2001-02, the arrangement began to include virtually all of Notre Dame's athletic uniforms."

Reebok is a subsidiary of Adidas. I've been unable to find documentation of a Reebok-ND connection.

I don't recall that there have been any "dominant" Irish teams (I'm talkin' footsball) from '97 to the present. I really don't give a rat's arse who provides the gear, but I abhor the seeming preference of manufacturer/style/cache' over the performance of the team and the cost of the paraphernalia.

To me the days of Champion providing gear represents a time when the name and success of that team meant more than swooshes and color schemes.

I hate swooshes.

Wonder how much of an effect the offshore, slave-labor manufacturing has on who ND contracts with. I know China is out across the board; but what about companies like Nike that have abmismal third world labor practice histories.

For as long as companies have been putting logos on cleats, Notre Dame teams have been wearing Adidas.

Except for 1993-1996 (I believe) when the Irish wore Reebok cleats.

My point being, I don't really understand the fascination with Champion. As far as I know, Notre Dame wore Champion jerseys in the 80's and 90's when the company was fashionable and more popular. They probably sent the team some tee-shirts too.

Adidas has been around a lot longer, has a longer relationship with Notre Dame, and now pays the school an awful lot of money for the pleasure to outfit all the athletic teams.

There's some fine apparel by Champion in the bookstore but I'd rather the Irish be outfitted by a real sports athletic company and not one owned by an underwear corporation.

What really matters is ND.

Boy! You can tell that this is the off season.

A random tid-bit: a very successful athlete in his day and super successful high school coach [mentioned because it indicates to me that he is no unobservant clown] said: "Black shoes are the most deceptive thing in sports. They give the opponent the impression that you are short and slow".

Well, in a way, that's true. It is an illusion. One wonders then: does one keep illusions to surprise the opponent to get a few plays of competitive advantage?, or does one change over to some flashier appearance to impress the next set of recruits? Seems like all the "votes" are regarding recruiting, not just on this board but in the coaching staff meetings.

Everything that Adidas makes that is branded with a logo for a team is made in Indianapolis.

I didn't like the green in the Michigan uniform from last year. It was too light. THe shamrock on the helmet should go away too. It's not necessary. I liked the design of the Michigan uniform, but use a darker shade of green. I am not opposed to green uniforms or white jerseys with green numerals. I draw the line at black.

You know that was a retro uniform, right?

where are all the wins adidas promised us by wearing all their new uniforms and gear?!

the 2011 jerseys (the ones with no sleeves)... they promised us they would not allow our rivals to grab them, they claimed they had less "drag" so our men could run that much faster than our adversaries...and yet in the final analysis i still see and 8-5 record.
i want answers!

que a few good men in 3, 2, 1...

Love the one on the left. The one on the right is nice, but I still don't think I'd be able to accept non-gold pants. Just like the helmet, gold has to stay IMO

Initially I wanted to keep the pants gold too but with the change of the helmet last year the golds don't match as well so I'm open to more change. I think I would be very interested to see an all blue and an all white version of their current jerseys.

Also, the idea of the team wearing all blue at home while the stadium wore dark colors for the UM night game seems like it would be pretty cool. (I'm not saying have a "black out" or "white out" -- that theme has been beaten into the dirt. see: Miami Heat) Those helmets would really pop on an all dark uniform.

Just spitballin' and counting down the days until fall camp...
