I know this is off topic but does anyone know if any of these lesser known guys at camp have been given any offers?

Believe all of the rest have been told they have to wait until after the coaches meet and discuss. Will be in contact with this weekend or Monday.

Ok so Turner is the only one who got an offer? Because that's nearly a guaranteed yes *knock on wood* like when Perkins got his offer.
Also ISD is showing a lot about Langston Newton; did he get an offer? It's times like this where I wish that I could spring for the premium subscription. Thanks for being a bro Ironman8.

Ugh. I hope you don't have to.

Dude, that is just a terrible and ignorant position to have. Remember a guy named Tyler Eifert? You wouldn't want him on ND either with your position. Go back and look at his offer list before the ND summer camp - which coincidentally he also preformed extremely well in and earned an offer, an offer that seemed out of place with others on the list and would have undoubtedly been underwelming for star chasers. It's usually useless to fight with those who trust recruiting sites with tape over their own staff who have seen him several times in person, but just keep it in mind that there is a precedent for such a travesty to work out quite favorably for ND.

Guess I'll repeat my answer here since it applies and I want Turner's family to know that some of us welcome his commitment if he so chooses (and I ain't mad at you whiskey, this is just my opinion):

Why? They didn't talk to Ball St and ask if they should offer. They didn't look at some grainy highlight tape and offer. THEY SAW HIM IN PERSON. F*ck what the other coaches don't see. If you see a guy in person, and he fits everything you want on the field, and then you talk to him and you watch him work, and he fits everything you want off the field...why not offer him?

Urban Meyer is known for lazy recruiting. He would see that ND or Alabama offered a kid, and would offer him site unseen. He would see a guy's stars and offer him. That philosophy bit him in the arse at the end b/c he got guys that didn't either fit his system or didn't fit his philosophy (if he ever had one LOL). You don't offer a guy because other people do, or b/c his stars say he's good (how many times do we bag on the star system???); you offer a guy because he fits what you want as a player and as a student and as a human being.

What if we had waited on Jarret Grace? He didn't have an offer from OSU, his in-state school, and people were kinda pissed when we offered. Guess what happened after he committed? Nick Saban saw his film and offered, and so did Jim Tressell. But they offered late. And this staff turned Harrison Smith into a straight beast, and Zeke Motta into a player that could contribute. They are very good in the secondary.

Screw that man; if the staff saw him and liked him, then I'm good with the offer.

Langston has not gotten an offer as of now, but he did state he thought he had a good day.

RAAAAAAAAAAGE!!

My only minor reservation comes from guys like Title2012 who also saw him in person (in a game situation). Same applies to user comments on that DE from SC where people called out his work ethic.

I think some of you guys think recruiting is like the one on your Ps3. Things change. Some guys get better during the process, some worst, and some you think have the potential to become better. It's the way it is. It's the risk of premature recruiting.

I understand and appreciate your stance on this, LA, but here's my beef with it.

We rejoice when a 4 or 5 :s: recruit commits to us, but whenever an unrated guy with an unimpressive offer list commits, suddenly the recruiting services/ schools who haven't offered the kid don't know anything. We can't have it both ways.

I know that recruits and their families read this board occasionally, so I try my best to never post anything insulting or negative about prospects. I have faith in Kelly's staff, but for those of us who follow recruiting religiously (which includes most of the people who post here regularly), this offer is a head scratcher.

I guess we just have to hope that Turner has been underrated.

I for one am very pleased with Turners offer, when Kelly came here we were all ecstatic about how well he developed players and how well he recognizes talent so why should we question this decision? I understand the whole concept of star rankings but remember these kids haven't even played their senior season yet. There are going to be new names getting noticed as time goes on and Kelly is just a little better at judging talent that most other coaches.

I hope it's Turner because from watching his videos he looks like he's been swept under the rug by these scouting companies. I'm with you aubeirish, I really like this guy and I think he'll be a big deal. Him and Prosise both have excellent noses for the ball and great tackling skills. Just give them time!

I agree with the 'hypocricy' of us being happy with stars when it suits us, and unhappy with stars when it doesn't suit us. Agree 1000%. And I chide fans of ND and our rivals when they do that. I'm probably guilty of that myself from time to time.

HOWEVER, in this case, he camped at ND, the ND coaches saw him in person, timed him, measured him, saw him dominate, and decided to offer him. In those cases, stars be damned. Now, in the case of Heggie, that was a head-scratcher and I could see people being perplexed/upset (I was not, b/c we had a scholly available and at #85, that spot won't kill a program), but in this case, our coaches got to see him up close and personal.

So for me, I'm good with this offer.

Can you give us whether the rumblings are good or bad? I can connect the dots either way.

You have miles to walk, barrels to laugh and years to sleep before you are worthy to share a basket of fries and pints of Guinness with Kwai Chang Kneutered and Master PoShans.

About 10 years ago, ND offered a scholarship to a kid who showed up for camp. He was a redheaded kid that played with aggressiveness. He was offered the first day of camp.

"Who?, we all said. We scoured the internet looking for info. Nobody had anything on him. I'd take Rocky Boiman today.

On the other hand Holtz gave a scholarship to a DL prospect that had played one year of college ball, he spent most of his HS career playing the tuba in the school band. He played some but he wasn't one of Hotlz's better players.

Suggestion.
If you want to critique a coaches scholarship offer, don't do it in the kid's Recruit Profile. Take it to a separate thread and discuss the pros and cons of COACHES offering unheralded prospects. Make it about the coach, not the kid.

So does everyone wants Turner to committ over Wilson?

I am not suggesting anything, in fact I have thought all along that Wilson would pick Michigan, but if Turner committs I don't see how Wilson would. We would have then have 3 safeties committed in one class.

The only thing I think is weird is that we would offer Turner with Elijah Shumate and Yuri Wright still on the board. Obviously the coaches like what they saw from Turner... but you have to believe this is shutting the door on that combo if Turner commits giving us 3 safeties.

Wilson was a low probability of landing to begin with. I know we're in there, but the fact that he is meeting with coaches to make a decisions and his coach is a Michigan guy does not bode well for us at all.

C.J. is being recruited as an athlete, he would likely move to WR if--on signing day next February--we actually have 4 safeties.

Remember that this is not a normal year at DB. IMO, we are in big trouble at that position in 2012 unless some chips really fall into place. Even worse than DE this year, we will have to overload at DB for next year in the hopes that at least one or two true freshman can contribute immediately. This suggests that the coaches are not going to look at just "upside guys" but will need to focus on "college ready" bodies like Prosise and Turner. The overload/playing-the-odds strategy was evident in 2010 at QB (Rees was the 1 of 4 who panned out), and last year at DEs (and OLB). I, for one, am glad we have Springmann and Carricio. They did not stop Lynch, Tuitt, Hounshell, or Niklas from committing and I think thye provide excellent upside and depth at either line without having to pan out.

It looks like once a position stablaizes (OL, QB, TE, DE) we focus more on the elite players only early on.
