In the article is says he runs a 4.3 40 yard dash? I'm guessing that is hand timed but why would they use that time in the article?

The Daily Herald is sort of a rag. I wouldn't be surprised if the journalist timed Davaris himself for that stat.

If I remember correctly, his dad said that he wanted to stay in the league long enough to play with his son.

Good luck to his dad on getting signed again though.

Phillip has been in the league forever. Even if he doesn't sign with someone he had a great career.

Might not be totally Walkers fault.....Devaris has been talked about in the sense of returning KO's. Hopefully that's what they're talking about. Or, quite possibly Devaris is picking up the offense better than we all expected and is pushing for time @ WR..

What does he mean by "forced" ?

IMO, Coach Kelly doesn't care if you're a frosh or 5th year. If you work hard, know the playbook, have the stamina to play fast for the whole game, and you make plays...he has no problem playing you. I'm not sure he would "force" a true frosh on the field if said player didn't meet that criteria. TJ is a great example. He earned that starting spot as a true frosh last year. I have no doubt that Davaris could do the same thing (maybe he won't start, but will at least earn some significant PT).

I think he meant forced as in Daniels is so good he has no choice but to play him.

Kelly has said he was "forced" into activating Schwenke last season due to a lack of depth at DE. His use of the word is no different here.

Kelly claims to need 7 WRs that are ready for battle. He currently doesn't have that many, and since Daniels is most the talented of those not yet ready, he will be "forced" into action early.

Not returing kicks, Kelly said today it is Riddick and Jackson.

Also if he is being "forced" to play Daniels I don't think it would be because he is picking up the offense better. He wouldn't be foreced to play him in that scenario, he would gladly do it.

Agreed. Had hoped he'd pull out a senior year renaissance.

I think Kelly's pretty happy with his WR 2-deep: (1) Floyd and (2) Smith at the W; (1) Riddick and (2) Toma at the Z; with (1) TJ and (2) Goodman at the X. But he needs a 7th, which leaves Walker, Massa, Farley, and Daniels.

Daniels being the best of those four isn't really surprising. Massa is a converted QB and probably the least athletic of the four. Farley is very athletic, but also very raw having only played football for ~2 years. And Walker, to our continuing disappoint, has never been able to put it together.

1. Floyd
2. Riddick
3. Jones
4. Toma
5. Daniels

That's how I think the depth chart looks by mid-season.

He could be "forced" into playing him over upperclassman because Daniel's so good. Considering Kelly's past statements about the next man in, playing freshman, etc I also took it that Daniels may not be ready yet (Tate wasn't) but there's nothing better ahead of him.

He could also be nailing a challenge on Walker's locker.

I hope all this means Daniels is a stud and needs to see the field. But as for as Walker I just watched a replay of the spring game and he looks legit. I remember when commited at the under armor game i was pumped. But something must be missing with him, its not like hes been missing great coaching (two grat head coaches for recievers)

Has walker ever seen game action at wr with the other starters? It just seems silly to me if not, even if he's under performing in practice. Give the kid a shot every now and then in games and see what he makes of it. I know that's not how it works, but some players are terrible in practice and show up during pressure moments.

As a freshman, how does DaVaris Daniels fit into your plans?

“He is a guy that unfortunately has to play. He’s not ready to play but he has to play. You know that position is a weakness within our program and that is why we have to recruit the receiver and running back positions. He is going to be forced into playing out there. And we will probably have to be creative with other positions in terms of playing more than one position. I don’t like to do that but that’s kind of where we are right now at that position. I expect him to play this year.”

Daniels is NOT ready. He is not being "forced" into playing time because of his understanding of the offense and great talents.

Down the road he will be a solid WR. But right now, BK has made it clear that he is NOT ready but has to play due to lack of depth.
