I'm actually amazed IE has remained so civil through this. My entire Facebook and Twitter feeds were ready to create a war over this.

I thought for sure I was going to have to ban somebody when I saw the thread pop up.

Maybe if Koon were still around, things could've been different...

I've seen some heated debates on it as well, which I thought "Meh, not that big a deal," but the reason I created the thread was mostly to see the results of the poll as I was surprised to see I was in the minority on the color perception. I thought it was obvious, same as it was for you.

The thing I don't understand is how people can see golden brown as black? Like, if you're telling me you are seeing the white part as a very pale shade of blue, OK, I can forgive you for that. But don't sit here and try to tell me that the golden brown part of the dress is black.

Is this the Truman show? Are you all in on some elaborate conspiracy to get me to have a mental breakdown? I don't care what lighting it is in or what kind of tricks a brain may be expected to play....there is NO SHOT that there is any black in that dress.

I've seen black and blue from the start, without seeing any other discussion on it prior. To me it's always been black and blue, and my eyes and head don't perceive it any other way. I wouldn't say that it looks "black as night," but something in my head is telling me that the light and the...faded-ness of the dress is affecting the picture, so it still says it's black. There's explanations out there, and I agree that the blue looks more like pale blue if anything, but for the life of me I don't understand how others see that faded blue as any kind of white, just as the reverse is the same for you.

Don't go here until you've voted as there's an unaltered pic of the dress as new, the comments here are funny though:

Perfect Outfit for a Life of Crime

Robbed a bank in this dress. Nobody could agree on a proper description of me. Sketch artist's head exploded. Got away. Fantastic.

Dress to depress

The good: Works equally well as formal or business casual attire.

The bad: Carves a crooked path through perceptual reality and leaves behind it a wake of confusion and existential crises. Also unforgiving on the hips.

A lovely dress and a loving wife
By DexterDeeDee on 27 Feb. 2015
I bought this dress for my wife, and she looks beautiful in it. Funny thing, the other day I saw another woman who looked exactly like my wife, kissing another man. But it couldn't have been my wife because that woman was wearing a white-and-gold dress, and the dress I bought my wife is a blue-and-black one. Whew, I was almost worried for a moment there, haha.

This dress made me realize that reality is a meaningless fiction and all of life is merely a grand cosmic suggestion. I returned it and got something cuter.

I was going to a fancy white and gold party. (It's a thing) so I bought this dress because clearly, despite the item description, it was the perfect color combination of white and gold. How disappointed I was when half the people attending told me I looked crazy in what they said was a "black and blue" dress. To make a long story short, I am now scared, depressed, friendless, back on my psych meds, questioning my entire existence and filing for divorce tomorrow. I gave it 3 stars Bc the fit is fantastic!

A dress you can be both married (white+gold) and buried (black+blue) in. Highly recommended.

OK so I have looked at this picture a bunch of times and only saw white/gold with thinking the white has maybe a little tint of blue. I also voted for white/gold believing that was the color. As I went back to the original post I still saw the white/gold. I then stared at the black cow like pattern behind the dress. As I was doing that I could see the dress change color right before my eyes. If I cut the bottom half of the picture off (the black and white cloth behind the dress) I see white/gold still, but looking at the entire photo and staring at the cow cloth I see the dress definitely Blue/Black in that picture.

This was my experience too. After you guys vote check out the gif on this site The Science of Why No One Agrees on the Color of This Dress | WIRED

It completely changed my mind

1) Who the fuck cares?

2) Does it matter one whit, one shit?

3) Is perception reality or reality a reflection perception?

4) Is your monitor color calibrated?

5) Who decides/dictates this absolute?

6) Sheesh!

7) Who gives a fuck.

8) I guess that I shouldn't fault anyone a harmless diversion.

9) Drink more alcohol.

10) Try LSD.

10a) Colors become sounds, sounds become colors. Dresses become civilizations.

11) Get off my white & gold, blue & black, blue & gold lawn!

12) Rock salt or buck shot?

My wife came home today, and immediately asked me "what color is the dress?" and I had no idea WTF she was talking about. I dismissively looked at the picture, muttered something generally rude, and went back about my evening. Now that it is being discussed on here, I guess it's ok to look again!!!

I accidentally went down the rabbit hole of public Facebook comments left on some promotional crap Dunkin' posted to try and capitalize on this. Thank you, IE, for being the one place in which I can engage in pop culture without having to associate with the general rabble of the E! network's target audience. You are the manna in the desert of the Internet. You flow with milk and honey.

This is exactly how I felt when I saw the dress only as blue and black.

I only saw white and gold, but after reading some posts I scrolled back up and it's baby blue and brown for me now.

I still don't see any black.

I'd just as soon go back to Ink Blots.

Or the turn of my head or the direction of my eyes.

Or Word Association.

Wait!

Word Game! That's the ticket!!!

Thanks, Spinner.
