Talisker 25yo 2004 release. Liquid love.

The most wonderful notes of smoke, pepper, walnuts, and figs.

Caol Ila 1979/2005 25yo. A great whisky, lots of brine, lemon, vanilla, light smoke, oysters and a hint of olives.

For whatever reason this is how I think of pkt:

Heretic Evil Cousin DIPA. Just ok for me, too much floral, woodsy, and herbal hops.

I appreciate your opinion, you know that, but when it come to a DIPA, it should have those exact flavors, no? Or is there no maltiness at all to do a little balancing?

There is some maltiness (more like white bread or crackers) but I really enjoy some citrus and/or tropical fruit notes from the hops and there was none there. It wasn't bad, just not my type of DIPA (which runs more along the lines of Stone Enjoy by, Stone Ruination, Green Flash Palate Wrecker, Victory DirtWolf, etc. which all have some combination of grapefruit, orange, tropical notes, etc).

Gotcha. Yeah, I would agree, citrus notes are needed, not just pine tree flavor.

Been meaning to try that. Thoughts?

Me too, finally pulled the trigger last week. So far, very good. Not as good as abt 12 or Rochefort 10 but not as expensive. Boozy, caramel, some fruits but not as much as abt 12. Since I think you like Strong Darks, I'd recommend it.

Went to Santan brewery for breakfast this morning And had two beers.

Gargoyle single hop IPA which was ok.
Night of the Living Red Imperial Red which was very good and full of tropical and citrus hops with some nice malt.

Karl Strauss Mosaic Session ... Huge step in the right direction for them, somewhat of a light pale base, then the hops bite you, not the carbonation, the hops, it's like a peppered hops I've rarely experienced, then you get a lot of grapefruit at the end, very good, very unique.

I went out on a limb today and paid 12 bucks each for 2 six packs from a Marquette, Michigan based brewery called Blackrocks. The two beers I tried today were Grand Rabbits Dry Hopped Cream Ale and Coconut Brown. I was very pleasantly surprised by both of these beers. They are smooth and tasty. Also relatively low ABV%. I'd rather drink both of these than any session IPA if tried. I doubt they have distribution farther than Michigan and maybe Wisconsin but I'd recommend giving these a shot if you can.
