I tried Sam Adams Rebel IPA. Not bad, considering I'm not an IPA guy. The rep said their goal was to make it more approachable. I guess they're targeting beer drinkers like me who don't go for that haymaker of hoppy bitterness to the face. I also sampled Curious Traveler Summer Shandy. Meh. The shandy style isn't for me.

Most of those beers should be counted out on taste alone. But the "science" here is sorely wanting. Many of the ingredients that the author asserts as harmful (with zero explanation/ citations) are perfectly safe-- MSG, for instance. This guy seems to be hawking the same baseless psuedoscience that millions of Whole Foods customers accept without reflection.

I quite frankly don't care about that list. I'm never gonna stop drinking Guinness.

I agree. I keep a shaker of MSG in my cupboard for judicious use in moderation.

I'm on the fence about GMOs. Especially when it comes to ppm in brewed or distilled products. There could, quite possibly, be mitigating circumstances due to the process.

All things in moderation.

Guinness is sacrosanct in my opinion.

I must say, though, that I am not a fan of aggressive, heavy-handed, and money grubbing attitudes and actions of the likes of Monsanto in terms of natural and casual cross pollination.

Same here. They have the potential to bring about great good, but it needs to be handled carefully. But knee-jerk opposition to anything GMO-related can be harmful, too. The Economist has long argued that GMO crops are humanity's only real hope for avoiding widespread starvation in the medium term.

I picked up a growler of Victory DirtWolf DIPA today at Total Wine. I can't wait to open it tonight.

First pour of the Victory DirtWolf DIPA is in the glass.

N: The first smell is grapefruit and orange with tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, papaya) building over time. A little pine and earthiness along with just a hint of cracker malt in the background.
P: Very juice upon first taste (orange, grapefruit, pineapple, mango with maybe a touch of peach and apricot). Then the pine and dank earthy hops join the fray. Maybe a hint of the cracker malt but it is buried pretty deep.
F: The juiciness is still there but the pine and earthy hops have clawed to almost equal footing. You can tell that there is some pale malt in there but it still is pretty far in the background.

Overall the first glass was very enjoyable. Fell short of the best of the best DIPAs (such as Pliny, Ruinten, Sucks, Enjoy By etc) but it is right in the mix for the next tier.

I have had two of Victory Brewing's other IPAs
Hop Devil which is just ok for me.
Hop Wallop (now retired) that I found to be very good.
Having said that, this is probably slightly better than the Hop Wallop. The Hop Wallop had more malt while DirtyWolf focuses more on the hops.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid for me.

Buying growlers from a store is such a foreign thing to me pkt. Maybe because there are no Total Wines in MI...

Also, don't really see a lot of VBC beers in MI except Hop Devil, Prima Pils and their Barleywine but I'm going to look for DirtWolf.

Here is their beer finder Beerfinder | Victory Brewing Company

Arizona passed a law a couple of years ago that let retail stores sell growlers and fill them up. The Total Wine by me has I believe 12 rotating taps and prices are pretty reasonable. When I got the growler of Stone Enjoy By it was $15 for 64oz, and this Growler of Victory DirtWolf was $14 for 64oz.

Those prices are definitely reasonable. A 22oz of Enjoy by here is around $7...

Got around to opening that Stone Grapefruit IPA bomber from a few weeks ago. IMO it was good, but probably won't do it again.

Currently having a Boulevard Double-Wide IPA. I really enjoy this. It's piney but smooth. Would buy again

Tommyknocker Legend 2014 20th anniversary aged in Hungarian Oak.

Not a bad beer but not worth the price. Simple with a fair amount of oak, some malt and some caramel and vanilla.

I had a great night of drinking! Founders KBS, Darkhorse Plead the Fifth, Founders Backstage Smoked Porter, and a Belgian Mocha Imperial Stout dont remember the brewery name

Good not great and for me, not worth the price. Seemed like a blend between a red and a belgian dark. Personally not a fan of reds but I really enjoy belgian ales. Glad I tried it but probably wouldnt buy it again.

The gf picked up a Widmer Brothers variety 12er.

It's disgusting beer like this that makes me honestly believe I could be a brewer.
