That's a fucking Cali beer??? Damnit I see that mentioned all over and assume it's a east coast thing since I have never seen it... I'm going to stop by my local go to on the way home and ask if they have it hiding somewhere.

It is. And Pliny the Elder might be the best beer on the planet. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first double IPA ever brewed.

Probably the best brewery in the US (Russian River Brewing Company | Santa Rosa, CA | Beers | BeerAdvocate). Pliny The Elder is amazing, and the sours (Temptation, Supplication, Consecration, Beatification, etc are the best).

Now that you mention it, I have heard that about Russian River. Sadly, I have never been to California, nor have I stumbled across a bottle of Pliny the Elder in my travels. But I have to say that I am alright with that. The scarcity and limited distribution of micro brewing sets it apart from the rest of our instant gratification world. Someday I will enjoy a Pliny. Until then, I will simply pine for it!

It is hard to find in bottles in SoCal (much easier in NorCal) but a fair number of places have it on tap though in SoCal.

It can be wicked hard to find. Places in Colorado will get a keg of Pliny the Elder or Pliny the Younger and have a tapping party. Usually only lasts an hour or two.

Yep, though it does usually last longer on tap in California. I have had it at the Salted Pig in Riverside and Eureka Burger in Redlands in the past couple of months. It is one of the things I miss about California.

Eureka Burger in Redlands?? I lived in Redlands most of my young adult life and most of my free time is still sent there... Doesn't ring a bell. Btw, my best friend owns Wilsons Barber Shop on Cajon if you are ever up for free beer and an old style hair cut...

Sorry, the picture wouldn't embed. I would take you up on the offer but I recently moved back to AZ.

Talisker 18. I love this whisky. Light smoke, fresh cracked black pepper, light salt, and some sweet malt. Just a hint of butterscotch.

Old Dominion Baltic Porter. Decent, but I've had better porter. Pretty good for a hometown brew, though.

Miller Lite old school cans. Love it.

Saranac Caramel Porter and Aviator Black Mamba are a few NC brews I have taken a liking to recently.

The Miller thing is great marketing... All the kids who grew up watching pops drink those are now at the perfect age...

New Belgium Lips of Faith Yuzu. It's a Berliner Weiss. Grew on me as I was drinking it but it's still just ok.

Now, the last of my Ten FIDY stout.

With dinner tonight Karl Strauss Citrus Big Barrel DIPA (brewed with Seville oranges) and Valiant Jericho DIPA. The Citrus Big barrel was ok but the Valiant Jericho was very good.

Captain Morgan White Rum. Brand new. Think Bacardi Silver with less bite. Not high class, but hey, it's monday.

My only nod to Bushmills stems from a trip to Ireland in 1990. My wife and I were on a lengthy trip that involved renting a car and doing a "circle tour" while occasionally dipping into the interior.

It was late October. We were in the north on a blustery, cool and rainy day tromping around the countryside. We were drenched and miserable and decided to pop into the Bushmills Distillery. We were the only ones there and the gent manning the bar had nothing better to do than serve us a few free hot toddies each until we warmed up.

Hopping in the car to drive to The Devil's Causeway may not have been the best decision – driving on the "opposite" side of the road, shifting the manual transmission with my left hand and smashing the bill of my cap into the window when looking up and to the right (out of habit) to glance in the rear view mirror – but we survived.
