Coronado Brewing Sock Knocker Imperial IPA.

If you like West Coast IPAs this is damn good. Loads of citrus and pine. Definitely the best beer from Coronado brewing that I have tasted.

Scotch, Bourbon, Rum. I generally like bitter flavors. Some cocktails I enjoy are Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. Also love IPAs and Amber Ales

Well my favorite scotches in that price range would be HP 12 (Honey, heather, and some light sherry and peat) and Macallan 12 (raisins, figs, some oak, basically a sherry bomb). If you like bourbon, do you like Wild Turkey? If so their Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel is damn good. Very dry, with lots of tobacco, some cherry, vanilla and lots of oak. You can get loads of good aged rum at that price point. Also you could get some really good Rye as well. Have you ever tried High West Rendezvous Rye?

That sounds very good. I love cherry flavors. Pretty sure I've never tried that Rye. Think I might buy the Wild Turkey, drop an ice cube in there and just clear my head for an hour after the exam.

Golden Road Brewing Wolf Among Weeds IPA.

The nose is very nice with loads of citrus and tropical fruits with a little pine.
When you first take a drink the citrus and tropical fruits are front and center, but then the dank earthy hops take over. The bitterness scrubs your tongue of any other flavor.

This is a very good IPA/DIPA. It falls short of greatness but I would gladly buy another 4 pack.

I'm breaking out of my clear spirit rut today. It's was easy given that the heat wave broke and the temperature has barely gotten above 73 today. So I started with some Weiss Bier. Spaten and Sierra Nevada Kellerweiis (thanks for the suggestions my fellow imbibers). They were both very good, crisp and flavorful. They manage to be east drinking but robustly flavorful at the same time.

But since you can only do so much hefeweizen at a sitting, I decided to move onto whiskey (I needed some brown spirit to stimulate my creative juices. I went out planning to grab a bottle of Eagle Rare bourbon. My local liquor store was out of it, so I took a chance on Buffalo Trace. I was a little concerned because the price was relatively low. But when I took my first sip I knew I had a winner. It's very well-balanced bourbon for the price, not too sweet and not too sharp. Buffalo Trace would be good stuff even if I paid $10-$15 more. I'm glad I took the gamble; I'm really enjoying it.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1991. Rich sherry flavors (raisin, fig, some orange) with loads of wood smoke and salt.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1994. Walnuts, raisins, some smoke and peat with a little salt. Flavors are a little muted in comparison to the 1991.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1993. Sherry with some almonds, smoke and salt. Probably the least of the 3 but it is still very good.

Lagavulin Friends of Classic Malts (Europe Release) Distilled 1995 12yo Sherry casks. Salty walnuts, raisins, dates, figs, Lots of wood smoke, and some peat. Just an amazing whisky. I really wish they had imported some to the US.

Lagavulin 12yo CS 2008 release. Nice salted smoked fish, with some lemons, and a fair amount of peat. The smoke and salted fish really linger with just a hint of the tang of the lemons. An absolutely wonderful whisky

Lagavulin 12yo CS 2004 Release. Lots of lemon and smoke. Some salt, peat, and vanilla oak. A very nice whisky. Lemons and smoke = damn good.

Lagavulin 12yo CS 2011 Release. Lemons, other citrus, vanilla, oak and some light smoke. Definitely a lighter Laga 12. Also some smoke on the back end. Some peat after you swallow. Definitely gets smokier the more you drink.

Has anyone out there tried any George Dickel products? I was giving serious consideration to their new rye release yesterday. But I don't like to gamble with ryes because the swings in quality can be pretty big to me. I haven't tried their regular stuff either. It's a Tennessee whiskey but how does it compare to Jack Daniels? I'm not a fan of Jack so if Dickel has a similar taste profile I can save my money.

The Rye isn't technically a Tennessee Whiskey. It's actually made in Indiana. It's decent though, but I prefer the #12.
