Absythe... maybe after the dinner with parents though...

absynthfairy-976414.jpeg

My local Market with all the fancy beers had some version of that in a can about two years back... the guy at the counter knew I always look for something new (Beer only though) and he told me to try it... It was only a buck fifty and i had never heard of it, so thinking it was just basic liqour/beer "thing" I bought one can... I had about three sips and threw it out... horrid.

I was so sick off of that my wife almost called 9/11... never been that sick off of anythying in my life...

Thanks for the feedback-- think I might go with with gimlet, sounds like a solid choice haha. And @whisky, I'm in philly headed to a big restaurant/bar so shouldn't be a problem.

Chocolate milk

And since it's your 21st birthday, a very special occasion, I think whipped cream and sprinkles on top would be in order. Maybe even a candle or a sparkler!

Sorry, Jimbo. This thread makes me feel my age, grumpy and more sarcastic than usual.

Haha this reminds me of my 21st. My a$$hole friend asked the bartender what was the worst shot he knew of. The bartender suggested cheap vodka with cream and lemon. The lemon curdles the cream and makes one big disgusting blob that sticks in your throat. He gave me the shot and I nearly puked from sheer disgust. Hopefully jimmymac's friends are nicer than mine ...

Jimmymac -
Whatever you do, DO NOT try to do 21 shots. Back in my glory days at Purdue, a good friend of mine attempted it on his 21st birthday at Harry's. We had a piece of paper with 21 lines on it and had him sign his name after each shot. By the end, it was basically a squiggly line LOL. And, me and 3 other guys ended up carrying him out of the bar horizontally like we were carrying a battering ram so he could puke out in the alley.

But don't let me discourage you if you've got the gumption to do it. Just remember, ^^^this could be you.

Happy Birthday to the IE Man on the Street!

Yeah. I did that. I had 26 shots and 2 pitchers of beer. I was carried out. It was a stellar birthday.

2 shots I had on my birthday...

a dirty sailor: Tequilla with a squirt of mayonaisse to make it look like a worm in the shot glass

Tidal Wave: A shot of blue curacao. The trick is that as you are taking it, who ever bought the shot takes water and throws it on your face...

My friend are *******s

Sweet Bejeezus, I'm surprised some of you are alive to tell your tales!

My 21st was way back in 1973. I felt cheated. Florida (along with most states, though not Indiana) had dropped the legal drinking age to 18 – twenty days earlier. The folks took me and my twin sister to dinner. Taking a cue from observing my father over the years I conservatively had a preprandial scotch/rocks and a postprandial cognac.

I then went out with friends and got hammered on George Dickel No. 8, though I stopped well short of 21.

Ha wow that is unbelievable timing.

When I was 20 years old I went abroad for five months and came back with three weeks to go until my 21st birthday. Being unable to drink legally for those 3 weeks felt like the cruelest tyranny.

Sierra Nevada Hoptimum with some Old Pulteney 12yo. The Old Pulteney really brings out the sweetness of the SN Hoptimum which is normally not very sweet but very bitter. This is a nice combo.

Sitting here in the restaurant thought I'd update you guys: I went with a Caribu Lou and a Magic Hat (draft). Delicious.

Very bitter. Like putting a pine cone in your mouth and licking some sap from a pine tree. Some citrus underneath that but it is dominated by the bitter flavors. I keep buying it and yet I rate it as average (say 83-86). What does that say about me?

Edit: Though I will say that it is highly rated. So you should probably try it.

I had a customer last night who drank the last of our Tullamore Dew. I suggested he upgrade to Red Breast or Jameson 12 for his next one. He said "I don't consider either of those to be upgrades from Tullamore Dew." You know, you try to help people...
