IIRC didn't you get them as a wedding gift?

Tried Sam Adams White Lantern, and little sweet at first and then a hint of spice at the end, very good.

Yessir.

White Lantern looks pretty decent, definitely will try it. Switched to bourbon after eating too much today, should be an interesting evening.

I got off work yesterday and was looking forward to picking up some respectable whiskey to cap off Turkey Day. Most liquor stores are either closed or close early. But the little corner shop near my place is always open. We had a state of emergency for a hurricane last year and they were still open. So I figured "no sweat, those guys will be there for me." But I drive by, and the store is dark. I had to pull over, fall to my knees, reach my hands to the heavens, and yell "NOOOOOOOO!"

So, without any booze, I was forced to finish my hard-earned holiday having milk and cookies and watching "Action Jackson" on cable until I drifted off to sleep.

Let this be a lesson to you, lads. Like a Boy Scout, be prepared, and keep your liquor cabinet well stocked. Or this could be your unfortunate fate as well.

About to open my first Sly Fox Christmas Ale of the season. May open the windows and pour some Laphroaig 10 Year afterwards.

Odell Myrcenary Imperial IPA. I love this beer. Loads of tropical fruit notes (mostly canned pineapple and papaya) with some citrus and floral notes and just a touch of bready malt.

I had zombie dust for the first time the weekend of the Navy game. Great beer, but near impossible to come by, no?

Yeah, it's tough to find even in Chicago. I found it a couple times, once in a random liquor store and another at a whole foods. Usually I have to take a drive to Munster to pick some up.

If your friends are paying I'd recommend Remy Martin Louis XIII.

At three grand (plus or minus – undoubtedly more "plus") a bottle I have my doubts that they could afford it ...

Unless one of those friends is a child of Bill Gates.

Avoid Coors Light, anything Boon's Farm and any "hard liquor" that sells for $2.50 in the bargain bin.

"Today you are a man!" Act responsibly. Sip, don't chug. Pace yourself --- with luck you'll have many, many years to discover the wonders and delights of fermentation and distillation.

And stay the hell away from a steering wheel!!!

Any preferences? (Beer, whiskey, etc.)

Do you want to maximize taste (it's a celebration!), value (I'm poor!) or volume (I need to consume 21 drinks without dying!)?

Don't try to do 21 shots, it's not worth it.

True story (I think I've shared this one on here before, but it's a good one) - My roommate at Purdue attempted this at Harry's on his 21st. At shot 17, we ended up carrying him down from the 2nd floor bar like a battering ram so he could yack in the back alley behind the building. While it was an epic story, I know he regretted the decision :)

Have fun, and make sure you don't have anything important to do tomorrow.

love beer, but due to the age ole concept that beer and liquor in large quantitates tend to make an appearance later when mixed, unfortunately ill be avoiding beer for the most part tonight,

21 shots will not be happening, though a cool concept never saw it as rewarding in the end.

i expect the kitchen sink from my friends, so im open to taking suggestions on the few drinks ill have a say in.

taste in not a huge concern, as I imagine ill be pretty tuned up from rum/vodka poured from the finest plastic before heading to the bars.

big whiskey guy
not huge on vodka, but i can drink it.

I have trouble with one shot these days... not a hard drinker at all... give me a cadi margarita with very little ice with a good Mexican meal... other than that, beer and wine for me.

If volume is a foregone conclusion, you'd be much better off avoiding the liquor.

Maybe start off with an Old Fashioned while you're still sober enough to taste what you're drinking? I'd recommend a good value Rye like Old Overholt for mixing.

Oy. Just don't die.

Dark liquors and beers have a lot of congeners, which make for a nasty hangover. So you might want to stick with the clear stuff if excessive consumption of liquor is unavoidable.

Then again, clear booze is for women and shots are for frat bros. You could boldly buck this savage tradition and drink like a civilized man instead.

Thats sucks man! Think about this though, my brother-in-law who is in the Army spent his 21st, 22nd, and 24th birthdays in Sadr City Iraq during his 2 deployments there, so you didn't have it too bad :eek:grin:

Shots are a wormhole to the black hole . If your friends force you just throw it over your shoulder right when they are downing theirs. Then start fake coughing real loud.

If it will be a all day event chug a whole bottle a water every hour.

If you mix liquor like rum and coke or vodka tonic, the carbonation acts like a needle that injects the alcohol into your blood stream.

Stick to the beer and have a blast...ohh take two multivitamins, two alieve and a large glass of water if you are coherent before you crash!
