Seems like a wise investment of $50 mil.

The exchange rate on Bison Bucks is actually quite favorable.

Thread is temporarily derailed now.

It also houses every sports weight rooms, basketball/ wrestling practice facilities and stuff too. I love picking on my alma mater for being small time but it's a nice facility considering our athletics budget is like 20 mil.

If you want to see it, our games are on ESPN3. SDSU has a guy #2 in the country in scoring.

My only complaint is they don't sell beer.

I think Cigar City just started shipping to TN because I saw Jai Alai for the first time since I moved here this Saturday. I didn't buy it because I had literally just bought 750 ml of green chartreuse and didn't want to add to the damage. I'm pretty excited though because that is a great beer.

I make it down to Ormond Beach twice a year. The first thing I do is pick up a six pack. It's hard to find something Cigar City makes that isn't good.

Just saw this post. Chartreuse is the best.

I think you mean Almanac's Farmer's Reserve Citrus. Almanac is available at Bevmo and at a lot of local places.

The Bevmo by me carries about 5 of their sours.

ETA: Also I think that many of Almanac's sours are very good. I have had probably 5 of them that ranged from pretty good to great.

Ack. This is embarrassing. You're right of course; and you're also the one who suggested I try Almanac in the first place, so cheers to you again!

Belated, but Lagunitas did a tap takeover at the local bottle shop last weekend. I'm a Lagunitas OG to 2010 before their expansion and Chicago distribution hub... so I obviously attended to see what they'd have on tap that was limited release or you otherwise can't get on the east coast.

One beer of theirs I found remarkable was the Dark Swan. Truly unique sour ale. Not really a typical lambic style sour, which IMO made it extremely enjoyable for an off-season sour (I, personally, don't like sours very much outside of the summer). It was sour enough to have great, complex flavor with a lot of the fruit/citrus notes you expect in a sour but also was rounded out well with hop notes and mouth feel that you don't expect. It was near 9% ABV but went down like you're drinking a 5-6% type of beer... not overly bitter or boozy. It basically has all of the flavor you could want while being shockingly smooth.

If you can find it near you, I strongly recommend giving it a try.

Pumped up for tomorrow night for a retirement dinner for one of the directors I work with. The guy has been a mentor of sort for me and is having a smaller party with some co-workers. After the dinner we are heading back to his house. Apparently his wife purchased a bottle of Macallan M to celebrate (she a got a good deal from what I can tell, about $5K) and he has promised me a taste. Anyone been lucky enough to sip on it before? Am I right to be excited?

Macallan M could taste like pond scum filtered through a dirty sock but it wouldn't matter because the brag factor will more than compensate.

Whiskeyjack,
Have you tried Smooth Ambler Bourbon (wheater) yet?

I've heard of it, but haven't found a bottle here for purchase yet. Yearling is their only wheater, right? Wondered which big distributor owns them, but it looks like they're actually independent, which is very cool. Will definitely try it as soon as possible.

Even as a guy who loves whiskey, I rarely order it out at restaurants since the retail markup is so steep. They've got some good stuff, but I wouldn't recommend paying their prices.

In your shoes, I'd probably try their Aged Old Fashioned, and then drink Allagash White for the rest of the evening. It's the best Belgian Wit brewed in the US. Do you like Blue Moon?

Thanks Whiskey, I might try the OF... I also have to drive a ways back home so if I'm going to have anything it'll be one, two drinks tops and then Arnold Palmers for the next few hours from there, I was wondering if they had anything worth ponying up for though...

Not a Blue Moon guy really.... most of my buddies love it... I've had Allagash a number of times... don't dislike it, don't love it.

You've undoubtedly tried Sculpin as well. Old Weller is basically young Pappy (the nectar of the Gods). $10 for a pour of that isn't a bad deal.

High West Rendezvous Rye for $11. A really great rye that is aged long enough to have mellowed some.

Booker's isn't a bad option either for $12.

If you want to go big, Balvebie 15yo single barrel $16 isn't a horrible deal and it is a great whiskey, same goes for Highland Park 18yo for $18 and Talisker 10yo for $13. Though if you don't like smokey whiskies avoid the Talisker 10yo.

Last night I had Manayunk Brewing Company's French Toast Crunch Porter. Styled after the cereal of the same name. It was... good. Can really taste the syrup flavor in it. I don't think I could ever have more than one in a sitting, and I may never try it again, but I did enjoy it since it was different.

Today
Coronado North Island IPA. Very good and worth trying.
Lagunitas Hop Stoopid IPA. Glad to see this in 12pz bottles and relatively fresh.
Stone Tangerine Express IPA. Just ok.

Had the Tangerine today... agreed, somewhat disappointing for Stone.

Tombstone Dank Fruit DIPA. I think that this is might be the best beer brewed in AZ.

Just about as fresh as possible. Put into the keg yesterday, and into my growler this morning and now I am drinking it. Nothing like a beer less than 36 hours old.

I Picked up another 6 pack of Lagunitas High West-ified. I have no idea how this beer is sitting around at $13 a 6 pack. I also grabbed a 6 pack of Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA since they brought it back as a seasonal and it is fresh (canned 1/24/17).

Couple from this weekend from a fantastic brewery in little Lead, SD, Dakota Shivers.

Dark Matter RyePA and Soleless Ginger, which is a winter beer.

If anyone is ever in the Black Hills, highly recommend this place.

As expected, it was delicious. I was able to siphon off a two finger pour, which was more than generous.

Nose was fruitier than I had imagined, as there were some hints of orange mixed in with the traditional forest tones and spices. Definitely got some hints of fruitiness on the palate as well. The finish was a fantastic oak and earthy note.

Stone Ripper. Pretty good. It's just a touch too sweet for me. Weird, considering my knock on Stone is that their beers tend to be a tad too bitter/hoppy. I like it, but for an American style Pale Ale (read, IPA junior) I'll take Union Duck Pin any day.

Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic. Courtesy of zelezovlk. Just an outstanding beer. I've had other Lambics that were sweet and I haven't enjoyed them. This is amazing.

Brought that f*cker all the way back from Rome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had either the Kriek or something else there and just loved it. Figured I should bring something back for ya.

Cheap Trader Joe's Portuguese Douro. Acidic, dark fruits. I love high acid wines and for $6 this will be hard to beat.
