Modern Times Booming Rollers IPA. Very good to great (89-91).
Surly Furious IPA (87-89). Very good.
Both grades are subject to change as I drink more of them.

Finally, Signatory Port Ellen 1979 23yo for my best friend's (since we were 5) mom whom passed away this weekend. A silent still for a person that has gone silent before their time.

Had to drink red wine tonight. It's my pop's bday and I couldn't be there. At least I know he's with good friends and drinking better than me!

We had company last week and my wife (God love her) figured she would pick up some refreshments for the friends and family. Typically, she is pretty frugal and buys the cheapest or whatever is on sale. This criteria led her to the local Costco. Thankfully (for me) she misread the pricing on a bottle of 25 year old, Kirkland brand, Speyside Scotch. Just found it in the cupboard today.

Really nice and smooth, reminiscent of the better The McCallan offerings. She told me to go slow and enjoy the sips because it set her back $125 Canadian. I didn't have the heart to tell her the two bottles of Red Breast 21 year old I bought at Christmas cost the household $225 Canadian each.

Tax, Tax, Tax!!! I love my excursions to the U.S. where I can purchase great booze and cigars for about one quarter the price.

Kirkland booze is not bad at all. Judge not lest ye be judged.

I have always said that I don't drink booze for the taste, but rather to make the present company more interesting!

Kirkland has some great offerings.

The 21 year old Red Breast was good (48%) but I think most of us agreed that the 12 year old was better. Less burn and more taste... it you are into that. Cheers!

And for anyone that might follow this advice... I don't like strong beers, I don't like hoppy beers. I find a lot of the "benchmark" scotches too peaty. Lagavulin is about as strong as I will enjoy. The McCallan, Delwhinnie and similar scotches are my favorites (when it comes to scotch).

Being in Canada, I have always had access to Cuban cigars. I used to smoke a lot of them 20 years ago. If they are real Cubans, they have a good draw but I find them too strong...way too strong! By far, when available, my favorite cigars are Arturo Fuente. Signature or Masterpiece series. Used to go to New York and New Jersey fairly regularly and fell in love with JR Tobacco... mecca for all the finer things. Whippany and Wall Street if I remember correctly?

Found a great microbrewery this weekend called Naked Brewing Company in Bucks County, PA. They have a Black Currant Rising Wheat beer that was absolutely amazing. Bought a growler, and I can't wait to open that up.

I believe Redbreast set the bar so high with their 12 year, they didn't leave themselves much room to improve. I'll give them credit for making the 15 and 21 different than the 12; they aren't just more refined versions, they actually tasted like different whiskies. But the 12 is just too good. If I had a choice between 12, 15 , and 21 for no cost to me, I'd still take the 12.

Do you have access to Terrapin? Terrapin Recreation Ale is easily my favorite session IPA.

Almost guarantee that Terrapin isn't available in North Dakota. May not even be available in Minnesota or basically any northern state for that matter.

I agree. Spent a few days on a lead roof in Dublin, across from a fine spirits store and in my opinion, you nailed it Black Irish.

Angels Envy is really good bourbon.

That is all.

While I might agree with you on taste, I think that it is overpriced. Here it is $45-50 and there is lots of really good bourbon in that price range.

Surly Furious IPA. Good but nothing special.

I had Surly Todd the Axe Man today. Much better than Furious. I think that it is a very good/great beer (90-92) but I think that the price point is too high (4 pack of 16oz cans for $16).

I haven't been able to pull the trigger on it because the price point is way too high.

Has anyone tried the new Jameson Caskmates?

I think the Jameson Caskmates is of great quality and value. It was my go-to whiskey for the football season. Obviously, drank more and more as the season got nasty.

I can't find it in Canada anymore, but the Greenore whiskey from the Cooley Distillery was amazing. Again, we found the 8 year old better than the older offerings. Cheers!

Found an old bottle of Old Granddad 114. Pretty happy about that since it's discontinued.

Natty Light again.

Prepping for a trip to Rhode island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts this summer. My relatives out there are high functioning alcoholics even by North Dakota standards. Already getting mouthy about putting me under the table. Lol I'm thinking 2-3 beers a night will do wonders for my tolerance.
