The running game is fixed! Or maybe not.

Hey no it's good again and Tony Jones looks pretty decent! Oh well, who knows at this point.

We'll see soon enough, but right now anything other than 0-3 vs. Stanford, VT, and USC would surprise me.

I was very happy with both Jafar and Tony. Tony was a pure stud today.

On the O, Jones without a doubt gets the game ball.

On D, Gilman, Tillery, and Drue had great moments.

Overall, without looking at the stats...

QB - C
WR - C+
TEs - B
RB - A
OL - B

DL - B
LB - B+
CB - B
S - B

ST - Better this week, but a C

OC - D
DC - B
HC - D

About what I expected offensively coming into the season. So much inconsistency at every position on the offensive side. Would really like to see Book get some action. Thought BW played better today.

This either feels like an 8-4 team, or a team like the 2012 one, I can't decide yet.

OL wasn’t much better today. I thought the offense overall improved. Still don’t know how we only got two touchdowns. They started to find holes in the defense over the middle. We’ll be interesting to see how offenses play us down the road and if Lea can make adjustments.
Happy with the RB production today.
We’re 3-0 and haven’t ever been losing in a game. I’ll take it. Keep getting better each week.

a win is a win...

that said.. Both sides of the ball played well during drives and then were no where to be seen for the next couple of drives.

Too much talent to allow these teams to have a chance to win...

Bring on Wake

Thank God that Alohi stripped that ball at the 1 or the Irish may very well have lost this game.

Running game looked better today...but these are games where I expect the offensive line to be able to dominate and I definitely wouldn't say that they dominated today. They did block well enough and the RB's ran well.

TEs had a good game and seem to be getting more involved.

I think it's time to let Book have a few full series. I want to see what he can do with the full playbook. I don't want to fully go away from Wimbush completely, but I don't think he's improved like he should have. He can make some amazing throws, but he still misses way too many easy throws.

Julian Love was a beast today. I don't know how many pass breakups he had, but I felt like he got his hands on 5-6 passes today. Houston Griffith got picked on a few times today, but he also made a few big plays late.

I'll take the win. Bring on Wake!

Oh man. Some of the worst officiating I can remember. So many damn missed holds, and don’t get me started about the missed-touchback on the INT

BW was just OK, IMO... It just "feels" like the O has zero identity/confidence. Outside of the 1Qs this year, it's been ugly. I think the OL played a lot better though. Not perfect, but better.

Man, I'm pro-BW for sure, but even I'm to the point of moving onto Book. At least feature him more to see what you would be getting. From the very small sample size he has been featured, he's definitely looked solid. What worries me is that you do lose that dynamic (his mobility) that you mentioned. Also, do we have the receiving prowess to make featuring Book worthwhile?

I love BW, and wish it would work out, but it's to a point we are the team that couldn't move the ball, or couldn't seal the deal in the RZ, like we were late last year. I think our WRs would be more than fine with Book. He's more consistent with his placement, and IMO would allow the WRs to have more confidence and allow them to get more in a groove.

It seems like we’ve been down the “get the backup in” road before. BK shows that he’s loyal to a fault. He hung on to Rees too long, a lot of people thought Zaire was given too much consideration against Kizer..... Then you look at other positions (MLB, RB, etc) and it just seems like he can’t pull the trigger. I just believe with a B minus level passer, we would be difficult to deal with (particularly when looking at Book’s good athleticism). I get that BW is dynamic as a runner, but he’s a lot closer to Carlyle Holliday than he is Clausen or Kizer

BK hangs on to everything too long. Players, coaches, etc.. I think Book is a solid B with an upside of B+ passer. He's not Rees slow (who did everything to avoid running), but He's a least a good C+ based on his HS stats. I think most important, is he's consistent. And that's what we need.

The redzone offense is atrocious. there were a lot of points left on the field.

There is something weird going on with Chip Long. Because we know exactly what makes this offense work, but choose not to do it sometimes. This offense can be good, we just choose not to call an entire game suited towards that. It’s incredibly bizarre.

I was, wrongfully, more optimistic about our WR’s but this group is not good.

I thought Wimbush played a decent game considering how it was called. He got very little help from his WR’s. Stanford is scoring a lot of their points on 50/50 balls to WR/TE’s. Their group just makes the plays. Not our group.

Run game much improved. Shocker, thats what happens when you run the QB.

The non holding calls is a VERY serious issue. It’s completely changing the game for our defense. We’d be off the field for so many of those plays if they were called the last two weeks. The hold on Okwara is such a terrible call that something needs to be done. Kareem got taken out of a couple plays, again, today because of it.

At home we have the opposing coach “working” the officials with the game on the line. I don’t think that should factor in to home field advantage, necessarily, but it’s working against us. This is gross.

I thought the OL was better today. One issue that is apparent though. Kraemer is not very good at pulling. Jamie at ISD brought this up in the spring because we do it so much and he wasn’t sure Kraemer would be able to execute it. This offense loves to pull the guards and Bars at RG last year was good at it. Kraemer not so much. And, the problem is, it’s not sustaining blocks, it’s not making blocks at all. Sometimes way too slow to get there. On one he just fell down in front of the DL, lol.

Yoon can’t miss that kick. Game would feel a little different at the end had he made a remedial kick. JD, improves his kickoffs as the game went on, that was good to see.

Plus side

O line much better
Jones Jr
Wimbush runs more!
Defense (for a lot of the game). Keep teams under 20 wins a lot
Secondary plays the ball better than they have in forever
Special teams is greatly improved (fg miss notwithstanding)
Undefeated!!

Negative

Play calling
Wimbush passing is grossly inconsistent
Book in (other than TD pass) at very strange times
Defense is getting tired. An injury to a LB or CB would be awful
Refs literally costing us several holding calls. This would seem to be something that should be a talked about issue going forward
Flutie is annoying
Mason = Shaw
They weren’t scared of us and showed it
No improvement on offense and we’ll lose 4 (or more)
No killer instinct
I’ve lost confidence in BK ( I really want to believe, but he’s making it impossible)

I need a drink (or several)

Did I mention that I don’t like the play calling? Can’t figure out if Long calls it that way because of BW’s limitations or it is just that bad. If your QB can’t execute what you need to do, put in the other guy....

Seems like the first 15 plays are well scripted. In all three games the offense comes out great. Then the play calling sucks.

Wimbush played pretty well. I think the team personnel would be better suited for a better passing QB. Look at our WR's and TE's, they should be a huge advantage but we can't take advantage of them.

Defense did okay. An experienced, accurate QB is going to be effective.

Vandy is a pretty solid team. We are a 9-3 team I think.

I need a rewatch as I was multitasking for a third of the game... but... I'm not as down on the WRs as you are. Yes, a few drops, and a few whiffs blocking.. but I saw plenty of open WRs over the course of the game, and BW was simply locking in on his first option. He did have a few great passes, but also had some very bad ones. And even on some of his completions, he makes it look very hard, and his placement is all over the place.

I feel like our WRs have been below average the last couple of years. I’d like to see some extended Book play to see how much falls on BW and how much falls on them.

I've rewatched several games over the last two years. Most times IMO it's BW locking in, and not going through progressions. He's a two option guy..... Pass to the primary WR, or tuck and run. Not always,,, but a majority of the time.

Just got off the phone with buddy from Indy.. mostly a bitch fest.
We both came away with....

You have to be either be
1) unhappy with BW, and or
2) unhappy with Long's play calling, and or
3) believe BK is too heavy handed with Long in terms of influencing his play calling and strategy..

I can't disagree. He doesn't really throw a very catchable ball. Helps on the potential interceptions that hit the DBs in the chest.

LSU will jump us. We likely will go up 1, but not guaranteed.

Yup on LSU. I think Stanford does as well. It will be close with the rest. I think UW or PSU could possibly jump us. If UW crushes Utah on the road, I would personally rank them ahead of ND given their only loss was a road game to Auburn (I know it was in ATL, but that's pretty much a home game for Auburn)
