Correct. What would stop the Big Ten and SEC to hold their own end of year tournaments and then the two winners play for a "National Championship"?
This is my thought as well. Same as AFC and NFC. Just more teams.

Seems inevitable that there will be more poaching. And also that ND will have to join a conference
And the ND fans will blame Jack for the whole damned thing. But if it looks like this thing is going to two super conferences we have to be in, right?

Hopefully the super conferences don't go to "school optional" then we are really between a rock and a hard place.

It depends on what happens to the playoff structure. I don’t see why the new B1G and SEC will want to be part of a playoff that gives bids to any other conferences. Especially if there is more carnage to come (Clemson, FSU, Miami, Oregon, etc). If the ACC loses those big schools, it’s over for us as an Independent and the current playoff structure will be drastically changed. I’ll be shocked if we’re not in the B1G within 5 years.
You could add those four schools, throw in a handful more (say Washington, Utah and Va. Tech to the Big 10, UNC to the SEC) and you'd have two 20-team conferences with basically every program that matters in college football. Except Notre Dame. We'd have to join.

I don't think the Big 10 is done. North Carolina, Virginia, maybe more.

ND isn't locked into anything I think. I believe we basically have an out clause that we can exercise whenever tf we want. Could be wrong.

An exit fee and grant of rights fee exclusive to Olympic sports it’d imagine is a drop in the ocean.

Go back into the Big East for Olympic sports and be a football only member of <insert conglomerate here>.

In the era of superconferences, ND simply can't be an independent. They'd be leaving a massive chunk of cash on the table.

They’ve been leaving a massive chunk on the table. If they can still be nationally broadcasted, access to the championship and set the schedule we want they’ll still be independent. If the super conferences say well you won’t be in our championship or schedule our teams that’ll be the tipping point. I really think money is near the last thing. The money will come if the others are taken care of.

Agree the money's not the issue, and TV will be fine, but the superconferences will gradually make the scheduling harder and probably hinder our access to the championship, and feels like that's what'll eventually force our hand.

ND absolutely will be in one of the super conferences. They will limit playoff eligibility to members only.

And it will prob be the B1G and prob sooner than later because if a lot of pieces move, then the playoffs are changing, too.

USC better pray that the Big Ten goes up to 20 schools and they get to play in a west division without cold weather. They have a decades long history of being scared shitless about playing @ND late in the season.
The west would be no picnic when it comes to weather. Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern can get pretty brutal.

Basically, ND would have to say TODAY, that they will become a full time ACC members for the conference to have any chance of surviving. Even then, the revenue from the Big 10 and SEC will be more lucrative for Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami, etc...

The only reason ND would join the ACC at this point basically is basically to continue to say Fuck You to the Big 10. In terms of revenue, rivalries, and stability, the Big 10 is the better option.

God I feel gross.

I'm glad to see the B1G step up and counter the SEC unlike the other conferences who are wetting their pants.

If the B1G and SEC form their own league with blackjack, hookers, and open bidding on high schoolers, should ND just be glad to watch them leave?

The wheels finally seem to be turning now with Notre Dame. Idk if I like it or not.

I don’t know if I’d be thrilled, but if this is where it’s leading I’m fine with it. OSU and USC are two of the biggest names in CFB.

It's inevitable that ND is joining some conference sooner than later. I don't like it but at some point there won't be another realistic option.

So now we officially just have a Saturday NFL and Sunday NFL. Kind of a bummer, but hope ND plays it right for us.
