Other than the fact that Tony Alford is a fine man, and a decent human being, and Ed Ogeron's best feature is his utility in being able to work flexibly with bag men and athletes alike.
The names that are at the top of Pat Haden's list, per several sources, are Boise State head coach Chris Petersen (thought to be the best candidate), Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin, Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin and Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin
Franklin is tricky to me...to me it seems like he'd be a great fit for them, but at the same time i could see it turning into another Lane Kiffin, which would be good for everyone else.
in order if i were Haden i'd go:
Sumlin
Petersen
Del Rio
Fitzgerald
Franklin
Sumlin is a stretch for me. I want to see him without JFF. I like Petersen the best as a coach and therefore do not want him to go to USC.
So no Sark?

Petersen has done what he did with crappy recruits in the northwest corner of nowhere. I can't imagine what he would do with USCs star power. Of course we could say that for several coaches lol.haven't heard much on boise st lately...not saying petersen is a bad coach, but when kellen moore left that program disappeared from the national stage. plus they only play 1 big nonconference game a year, by no fault of their own.
i agree petersen is a good coach, but it falls along the same theory with sumlin wanting to see how he does after johnny football.
plus sumlin's got a pretty good track record with QB's and USC's been known to have some good one's over the years and not to mention they're in the QB hot bed out in Cali.
I think Del Rio would just be disappointing for them, I think Franklin would crash and burn in a spectacular fashion.

Best case scenario for me would be Del Rio, Franklin then Fitzgerald. Petersen or Sumlin would equal big trouble.
Exactly.
I can't see Sumlin leaving for USC. IMO, TAM is a better job right now.

Have you seen that defense? Will be interesting to see them next year without JM. I think they fall back to middle of the pack SEC team.
TAM's roster is better than USC's, IMO. With or without Manziel the talent disparity will continue to grow as TAM oversigns and USC is strapped by sanctions.
He's in the SEC right now playing by SEC rules. Why would he leave for sanctions and the repercussions of sanctions? USC will be under a microscope for years after the sanctions expire.
The money will be about the same. The recruiting is just as rich in Texas as it is in SoCal. TAM is ascending while USC is declining. Aside from history, what does USC offer him?

. This year they might take a recruiting hit but they will never be hurting for talent. He's in the SEC right now playing by SEC rules. Why would he leave for sanctions and the repercussions of sanctions? USC will be under a microscope for years after the sanctions expire.

The sanctions will be over for the new coach. They can sign 25 in 2014 and will be back to 85 on the roster in 2015. TAMU doesn't have better talent, they just have more because they have a full roster. USC's few scholarship players are very talented. 5 of the 12 guys they signed last year were 5. This year they might take a recruiting hit but they will never be hurting for talent.
I don't even know what that means. Again, the sanctions will be over.
TAMU is ascending but will promptly fall back to the middle of the SEC, if not this year, next year when Manziel is gone. USC is declining only because of sanctions and a ****** coach. They will be fine.
Aside from history? Are you saying that doesn't matter? That is a huge deal. USC also offers the LA lifestyle, a strong track record of placing guys in the NFL, and the national spotlight.
