Loy posted something interesting when asked to defend his decision not to change his crystal ball for Juju. He acknowledged that USC had all the momentum in that recruitment, but he said that Juju is a kid who, unlike McKenzie, really doesn't like the recruiting process and would have committed long ago if he was sure. The reason he hasn't committed, in Loy's opinion, is that he really is torn. TIFWIW.

One interesting tidbit: even the staff does not agree on which prospects they lead for and which they trail for. Some coaches may think ND leads for a guy, whereas other coaches think ND trails.

I guess that just shows that even the coaches are really guessing some of the time.

I would imagine that when one coach feels they lead, and another feels they don't, that typically means they don't lead. I mean, how many times do coaches of different schools come out of a visit, thinking they're on top, when in all actuality they don't lead?

Recruits sometimes tell coaches what they want to hear, and they error on the side of 'leading them on' for a terrible lack of better words.

What I'm saying is, this probably isn't a great sign, but I trust our staff to close the deal better than NDfister at a high school prom.

i was done mentally with recruiting this year when morgan committed....anything and anyone else is gravy to me.

its a great class right now that can/will only be improved with some of these late deciders.

With Mokwuah on board, we filled the only gap in the class. Grab another DT as insurance/upgrade and add some skill players as icing on the cake, and we're ready to roll.

Maybe this should go in the "Class Ranking" thread, but this class is a great example of why the whole ranking thing is a little overrated (not saying it is meaningless, but overrated). While the class has some great players and huge "gets," two players that I think could potentially have big impacts down the road add almost nothing to our rankings (Hill, assuming he sticks which I think he will, and Mokwuah). Meanwhile, other schools that are taking 48 players, some of which are just pure filler, are ranked higher than us. We've also had higher rated classes in the past that were loaded with highly ranked skill guys that never really materialized, or classes with kids that didn't really fit the bill. This class is neither; it has players at core positions, it has solid projectable guys and big upside guys, and most importantly it has guys that I feel are the right fit for the school and the program. I'm getting increasingly excited about this group. Give me one or two more cherries on top of this sundae and I will be dancing in the streets.

Couldn't agree more. Having 3 5-stars at the same position may look good on the class rankings, but our staff has really recruited our needs well.

I'm with you. I've always felt the stars and rankings are more of a general guideline or best guess by the analysts. The guys that help take your team over the top are the ones in the middle rankings that end up better than their middle rankings.

For me, I like to watch the film and say to myself how does he compare to others. I must say that during Kelly's era there are not many committed guys that after watching the film I wasn't all in. Regardless of rankings, our talent level and our will to compete has gone up considerably since Kelly took over. This staff knows what they need and gets it.

O.K so now that Yeargin is gone, would we take both Cage and Sawyer now? Also if drue does move up to LB, could Hendrix be a possibility again?

I feel like this class we're bringing in a lot of the under the radar guys that have turned MSU's defense into a terror under Dantonio.

Yeargin is a clone of Rabasa. Too small to play DL, too slow to play LB.

So Cage, Alexander, Sawyer, Mckenzie. Juju if Jesus loves us. Sub Quick for McKenzie if need be.

Small update to remove Mokwuah (woo!!) and add a note about Yeargin. Still 4-5 spots left because of the Yeargin defection. ND is probably running at 30%-50% for all of the remaining "realistic" prospects (McKenzie, Cage, Sawyers, Alexander, Quick). Odds say that we should probably land at least 2 of them. Will take some good luck to land 4-5.

Lax or anyone in the know - any formal info or back story on the potential new PWO Grant Hammann?

ps agree with keunja on that tp tweet
no need for TP to tweet that.
whats the point?
crazy day for ND!!

he can tweet what he wants... this is ridiculous. TP I feel sorry for you, you have people debating whether you should tweet something or not.

TP, I dont feel like your job (whatever it is) best represents ND, could you get another to make me happy please.

with the two updates, I would love the class to finish:
McKenzie
Alexander
Quick
Juju

Please stop. You insist on having a long drawn out problem with everything. I didn't even read that last post. I'm just tired of it all. This is done.
