Unique cheers

We can all agree that Notre Dame has a tradition like no other, but it's always bothered me that our gameday cheers aren't particularly unique. We basically just have " (Let's) Go Irish!" which is good, but stylistically very generic. I've always appreciated (if reluctantly) how Michigan has "Go Blue!", Ohio State has "OH! IO!", USC has "Fight On!", Texas has "Hook 'em", etc.

I've always wished ND had something like this. My personal thought that a decent call and response could be taken from some Gaelic phrase. "Erin! Go Bragh!" comes to mind, but I it doesn't really fit the style very well. I'm sure given an entire language at our disposal, someone could come up with something that better fits a call and response.

Does anyone else feel like that? What would be the best call and response for the Irish?

Similarly, I've appreciated how some teams, like MissSt with their cowbells and Michigan with their sandy vaginas, incorporate physical objects into their gameday traditions. How cool would it be if people started bringing (and were allowed to bring) shillelaghs into games? We could bang them on the wooden benches to make noise on critical third downs, etc. That would be so badass and so unique.

Unique cheers

I have a feeling a few games into this season ND will have a VERY unique cheer: "Fire Kelly"

As for the shillelaghs, Oklahoma State has a pretty cool set up with their guys in the front row pounding giant paddles against the wall.

You really want 80,000 Irishman with clubs in their hands?

Reminds me of the movie Knute Rockne, All-American. Rockne is giving testimony at a hearing on the violence of football.

Committee Member: Mr. Rockne, couldn't football be replaced by some other game? Something less violent?
Knute Rockne: Well, what game would you suggest?
Committee Member: Well, hockey, for instance.
[This answer is greeted by raucous laughter in the committee room]
Knute Rockne: Why, as a matter of fact, I suggested that very idea to Father Callahan, our president. He was downright interested until we came to the use of sticks, and then he threw up his hands. He said, "No... , that game is not for our university. Notre Dame will never endorse any game that puts a club in the hands of an Irishman."

I've been to one game...during a 4-8 season...but I noticed the stadium was just not really that into it. I blame the elderly.

Cheers aren't that's important...just making some noise when the defense is on the field would be adequate. 80,000+ fans can cause all sorts of problems for am opposing offense (silent count, false starts, etc.).

Went to the VT game this year and brought a non ND fan with me. Kept asking if it was always this quiet, and if the opposing fans are usually louder.

After doing some digging, it would be difficult, but I think if they played Ireland's Call at some point during the game(maybe before the second half kickoff?), that would slay.

I just think it would be so awesome to have 80000 banging shillelaghs in the stadium. It'd be like Durmstrang's entrance in the hp movies. Very intimidating.

Brought my dad to a game a few years ago, he has also been to a couple usc games as my brother is a fan of that trash. But my dad thought the game was much louder than anything he had heard at any of the usc games. The game was against air force I brought him too

Missuss... Missysip... Misisipp.... OK, Miss. St. and their damned cowbells are annoying and loud as hell when their D is on the field. If they could get more than 45000 fans in their stadium, it would be a nightmare for opposing teams.

When I younger there were always large groups chanting "here come the Irish" before games. I always liked that.

Yeah I've always enjoyed that one too, but it's not really a call and response thing.

No one has any idea for a good ND related cheer you can use to greet other ND people?
