We can all agree that Notre Dame has a tradition like no other, but it's always bothered me that our gameday cheers aren't particularly unique. We basically just have " (Let's) Go Irish!" which is good, but stylistically very generic. I've always appreciated (if reluctantly) how Michigan has "Go Blue!", Ohio State has "OH! IO!", USC has "Fight On!", Texas has "Hook 'em", etc.
I've always wished ND had something like this. My personal thought that a decent call and response could be taken from some Gaelic phrase. "Erin! Go Bragh!" comes to mind, but I it doesn't really fit the style very well. I'm sure given an entire language at our disposal, someone could come up with something that better fits a call and response.
Does anyone else feel like that? What would be the best call and response for the Irish?
Similarly, I've appreciated how some teams, like MissSt with their cowbells and Michigan with their sandy vaginas, incorporate physical objects into their gameday traditions. How cool would it be if people started bringing (and were allowed to bring) shillelaghs into games? We could bang them on the wooden benches to make noise on critical third downs, etc. That would be so badass and so unique.
