ok first of all the word "Gay" to these kids is pretty detached from a derrogatory slur for homosexual. They use it for everything. Kids do that. in some cases there is context for it to mean its more classic definition...but I kid you not, thats likely because they call everyhting uncomfortable "Gay".

The Race thing "Niggas" and the like...Yes I wish people would cut that out...I get that it is a created word that hijacked another more incidious word....but it leaves people with an impression of race entering into the discussion...so not fun. However, get real, kids delight in doing things like that...its what they do.

I'm not at all a fan of the derrogatory discussions of women in general...but NO ONE can tell me this is somehow a football recruit problem, and not a kid problem in general. probably 85% of kids that age talk like that...I wish it weren't so, but it is.

All-in-all this is much about nothing...kids being kids. some of the things they do make me wonder, but it speaks to the larger population's perceptions. Unfortunately, recruits don't get to be like other kids. Thats just reality.

Yes coaches need to explain to these kids that while they use twitter as if they were all standing in the locker room clowning around, what they are really doing is making a loop tape of every one of those conversations that plays 24/7 on the internet for eternity for anyone to watch. If you wouldn't show it to your parents or your stricktest teacher...then don't put it on twitter...

Michigan suddenly took the moral high ground when Wright leaned away. Now they just look like silly bitter a$$es that would do a kid in out of spite...I just don't think the trajectory of recruiting is good...its always been tough, but with social media you have literally millions of eyes waiting for the chance to whack a kid if he chooses to go somewhere else...Its time to make some changes.

Didn't the article state that this is considered common among high school kids. The issue arises in that they represent something more than themselves. I was fortunate to have coaches who always made sure you knew that you weren't just a representation of yourself but your family, friends, school, etc. and that by being on the team you are held to a higher standard whether you like it or not. I remember last year Kobe said "fag" on national tv during a game and got fined 100k for it, so how it is used or not for their age group or mine (I am 24) doesn't really matter.

Yup...all good...I bet most were very sensative to their conduct in public, what they said to reprters, etc. The issue is these kids don't think their twitter accounts are a representation of anything...they just don't get it. Like I said they don't think about it as anything more than a conversation w/ friends...I suspect many HS coaches will be more tuned in next cycle.

disagree...age, intent, impact...all issues. These kids influence no one, and their impact to their team/school as a HS recruit doesn't cause the district to lose money, get boycotted, and lay people off. Kobe is 30 something...you'd hope sometime before 20 the light goes on and kids start to understand other people have their own specific meaning and expectations regarding words. I saw little evidence that any of these kids hate homosexuals...but rather the word itself gets a response from someone you direct it at...there is a difference.

I don't much care one way or the other.......when I was that age, I had a bad mouth, especially out drinking with my friends. I did things every bit as bad as they said or did. That being said, I didn't like how people came down on Yuri for his usage. There's not one damned choir boy amongst us on this site, for that kid to have his scholly pulled for his usage, you'd have to pull just about every kids scholly who has been on twitter.

Wait a second there bub. I was a choirboy. Not saying I didn't do the things listed, but that is another story.

Dude, step away from the ledge. This hack article hasn't even been released yet. There's no reason to fear the worst.

Not on the ledge, but I do have concern. Anything ND will get blown up 1000x in the media in comparison to other schools. If it's tame, OK, but if ND students pulled a Yuri, it will be on ESPN same day. I hope it's a hack / non-story, but just being realistic.

PHgreek...understand your point on the Kobe comment. I was bringing him up to show that once you in the spot light the ramifications of your actions are extremely different than others. All 18 year olds talk this way (even most my age) but those who represent something more than themselves are ALWAYS going to be the ones who get in trouble or have the example made out of them. For instance if Luke Walton calls a ref a fag does he get fined 100k and get blasted all over ESPN and other news carriers? Do they even catch Luke Walton saying it?

You mean like the principal at Don Bosco? Yuri's head coach at Don Bosco, the assistant head coach at Don Bosco, and others who have publicly stated that he was counseled, advised, and warned repeated times that his conduct was unacceptable AT Don Bosco.

What you or I or every "other kid" did is irrelevant. How he handled HIS situation speaks to HIS character and HIS judgement. He chose to defy authority (several times according to his coaches) and he got expelled by his high school. He had dozens of college scholarships on the line with a value of up to $200,000. His posse was more important to him than his high school degree. He made his choice.

Don Bosco's code of conduct is a lot less stringent than du Lac and Res Life.

Do you really think Auburn cared about the content of his tweets? They don't care if a recruit can read.

Do you really think Spurrier was worried about tweets? How many times did Spurrier suspend and reinstate Garcia?

Take a look at the discipline (or lack of discipline) track records of the other schools that had offered Wright but he didn't sign with. He had a lot of better offers that Colorado but strangely chose the Buffs. Could they all have already signed a full load of blue chips DBs or is it more likely that they didn't care for a defy authority figure in their lockerroom?

Don Bosco held Wright accountable for HIS actions. Seems like they weren't the only school that did.

It wasn't about tweets.

As far as I can recall, most of the ND guys weren't near as bad. I could be wrong as an article is being prepared but since it is taking this guy a week, he might be doing his research now only to realize, it really isn't all that bad.

Then again, I could be absolutely wrong. Personally, what a kid says BEFORE he gets to ND and gets the proper guidance is fine by me.

I honestly don't remember any inappropriate tweets from our recruits, none that caught my eye as being excessive at least. Then again I only check it whenever there's news breaking and I think Mahone is on there 24/7 haha

Ya know, I can't argue w/this. This is different than someone who just did not think or understand the potential ramifications. If he was indeed told to stop, and the ramifications were explained, and he still did it...you got to figure thats an issue.

Did anyone notice the disclaimer:

***Note from the Editor: This is obviously going to be a very controversial article. We decided to publish the middle ground of what we uncovered. For all 6 schools featured, we discovered evidence of gambling on football, drugs, alcohol on recruiting visits and mentions of improper recruiting benefits that we chose not to publish.***

Also, the other guy who is going after Alabama and LSU is a Florida grad.

EDIT: the Florida grad is also going after Urban Meyer at OSU.... yay objective journalism! LOL

Someone make a page and go after USC's recruits.

I vote Whiskey.

What that guy said.

Did I just get nominated to slog through thousands of tweets by incoming Trojan players? Not sure if I should feel honored or offended...

I doubt such a page would have much affect anyway. For schools that maintain at least the pretense of "doing things right", these kinds of exposés can do some damage, but USC probably couldn't care less.

I don't think this is what Bill Cosby had in mind when he started "Kids say the darndest things...."

Not to be overly persnickety, but it was Art Linkletter who created the concept as part of his radio show, "House Party," in 1945 and made the transition to "Art Linkletter's House Party" TV show, which aired in glorious black & white until 1969.

Notice that I didn't resort to "picky-***, mother-*******, ****-licking, ****-sucking ***** and/or *** in my diatribe to make my point. I felt no compunction to toss ******, ****** ***** or sorry *** ***** into the mix.

sly & the family stone - dont call me nigger, whitey - YouTube

Richard Pryor & George Carlin mash up - The 'N' Word - YouTube

Sadly, the SNL skit with Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase is not available on YouTube, otherwise I'd have provided a link.

Language, attitude and comportment carry historical and contemporary weight. To ignore or discount the past is to dismiss the future. Disdain for others, simply for their race, ethnicity, religious beliefs or gender is reprehensible. I like to think that exposure to a broader world view, such as Notre Dame provides, would make a difference. I won't hold my breath, though. Without a kernel to sprout, the rarified atmosphere far too many gifted male athletes thrive within trends toward the negative.

Shut your ******* mouth until you wise up.
