FWIW someone in Sports Information told me field turf was being put in this offseason. Heard that back in December.

This pissed me off. Wrote this response on the damn iPad and of course it didn't post. This is all speculation...

I did a little bit of researching and found this: Notre Dame Stadium Gets New Turf | FieldTurf - Synthetic Turf | Artificial Grass | Artificial Turf

The article said that they were having the field turf replaced and it would be ready by April 2008. The previous turf had been in use for 5 seasons/years (2003). Maybe they signed a contract of 4 years for this turf instead of 5. If so, then that contract would be up and they very well could be installing new turf. I cannot find any information on field turf replacement before 2003. If they are replacing the turf, they can always replace sod with more sod. So as of right now I'm not getting my hopes up because it would appear we have 1 more year of this turf before it gets replaced (if they plan on replacing it every 5 years).

I hope that Jackson wasn't just saying that he hoped there was a jumbotron coming in. And I hope as well that there would be field turf getting put in.

I just agree with a bunch of people above that if this was going on, we would have heard about it. It's not exactly something to keep secret. It gets people excited about the program (recruits) and injects Notre Dame into some conversations. So, I figure if something serious is going on, we'll hear about it.

Bennett's tweet was just that.... Hoping that ND would get on board with a jumbotron

If that isn't proof alone how big a deal this would be to current players and prospective recruits, I don't know what is. Sure, it wouldn't have a huge impact on the game. But college football is a game of keeping up with the joneses. I know that ND doesn't do this, and cuts their own path, but this is just one area they could address to help themselves out. I would imagine they'd do it right, and that after awhile even the most ardent traditionalist ND fan would come to like it.

Agree 100%.

It doesn't have to be some monstrosity like the Cowboys have.

Just something to "keep up" as they say.

(plus I'd love to literally see NDnation explode)

Haha exactly. I live right by Wrigley Field and go to a bunch of Cubs games, and I can't tell you how frustrating it is sometimes that you can't see a replay of a blown call by an ump, or a homer, a sweet double play, whatever. I feel like the Cubs, and the Irish, could both add a screen or two without it being obnoxious or ruining the tradition both places have. It's 2012. Come on.

I personally think that Swarbrick and Kelly have proven that ND can kind of "have their cake and eat it too" as far as the tradition/get with the times argument goes.

They integrated music through the PA system and did it tastefully, yet also appealed to the younger crowd with their song selection (crazy train aside)

Yeah not to mention the night games, the sick new uniforms, and other stuff. So it would seem to be that the natural extension of that is field turf and jumbo tron. I know it's not the best thing to say, but put yourself in the mind of an 18 year old. Time to make ND cool again. I think we're on our way to that. Of course, nothing is cooler than winning. So let's just do that. Lot's of it.

I do have something called classes.

So the view from the gate is obviously unspectacular, but there is a bunch of construction equipment and supplies.

There is a sign that isn't on the other gates, requiring hardhat and goggles.

Aside from that, there was equipment lying around that gate, but the field itself was covered in snow.

I can try again on a nicer day, if this rain/snow/sleet clears out.

Additionally, for those who think that its just concrete renovation, I know that that is additionally going on, but from what I've heard from my sources, who are about as inside as it gets, also installing turf.

Chamellion,

Toughen up, walk over there and take a picture

That would end the debate. Do it! Do it!

it'd be tough at the friendly confines. not a lot of space. they wouldnt want to obstruct views from the rooftop seats. and they definitely arent going to put one over the ivy on any walls. the only place would really be over the scoreboard and thats not happening.

i guess a deal ould be struck for one of the rooftops to put one behind their bleachers.

Yeah, they'd have to put it up on the concourse or something. The way they've been battling sometimes with the rooftops, I wouldn't put it past them. But as for ND, it's an easy fix.

Did quick google search and the Construction Company on that sign is More than a century of construction industry leadership | The Hagerman Group

they mainly do new construction and renovation work. Nothing on their site about field work or anything

Wonder if this thread should be in the conspiracy thread? Obviously using The Hagerman Group is a carefully scripted ruse to deflect interest of nosy passer-bys. hence hiding the super-secret installation.

Where's my aluminum foil? Oh, wait, even better, where's Otis?

On a side note, we could call The Hagerman Group, posing as a sub-contractor, ask for the Project Manager @ Notre Dame saying we provide clean up services on re-constructions. Never know what might be said. Just sayin...

They were confirmed to have been redoing the drainage system at the end of last year. I'm sure if they're doing that upgrade, turf is being installed.

Jumbotron will come with the eventual stadium renovation, IMO.

So you think this is actually happening?
