Did you check where those teams are located? The weather is different here. I just gave you the run down above.

The weather here destroys the fields. Especially as you get into October and November. The last thing you want is a field that is increasingly changing as the game goes, that is dangerous.

High schools can usually get away with it because the season is basically over come November aside from the the handful of teams that are still alive in the playoffs.

Notre Dame is located in Indiana not the Arctic! Football has been played there for many a year. But yet this is the first time artificial grass has been mentioned as being put in. Ive never heard of OSU complaining about the turf and PSU has natural grass as well.

They just had to tear it up. It's obviously become an issue. I don't listen to OSU or PSU fans, ever.

Who said I was listening to their fans? I was obviously stating that those stadiums are in the same climate region as South Bend.
And if those teams can find a way to keep natural grass. I think we can too.

I mean ND is further north and gets much worse weather due to the lake effect from Chicago.

I want BK to have a blank check. I want him to get a bigger helicopter than Sumlin to go to high school games. I want the stadium to look like Jerry Jones got ahold of it. People should wonder if Buffet is an alumni when they tour the campus. Grass can stay, turf is overrated. It's BK's program, let him to what he wants with it.

I like the tv specials on the shamrock series and the scheduling of games in Texas. ND should play a Cali (check), Texas (check), and Florida team every year. Make the schedule count.

Winning is also a tradition... and that requires recruiting... and that requires $$$$...

just my humble opinion.

BS. The question was have you ever played a contact sport on artificial turf?

People need to quit crying about the field they are playing on. Both teams have to deal with it.

A quick google search would show you multiple links with scientifically gathered statistics that prove that field turf is safer than natural grass. But I guess your anecdotal "evidence" is more important?

You're either ignorant or stubborn. I'll let you choose- try not to hurt yourself.

Doesn't Penn State have one of the best turf management colleges in the nation? If so of course they aren't going to complain/switch. They can do so much research and work on their fields with professors and students to yield the best results.

Great point, except OSU has had artificial field turf for quite awhile now... Soooo I guess not such a great point.

I would just like to interject that after improving the seating and increasing the capacitiy, I think that something will be done about field conditions and jumbotrons. I think if there is anything going on it is very humble and about adding to the tradition and the feel of the stadium and the game experience. Not going to be about changing it. I am extremely impressed at how the higher ups are putting boots on the ground in this project. Now that I think about it, just remember back to the Admin Building project of the late 90's and how great that came out. I am confident that this will be the same thing!

On another note, I don't know why they don't explore that partial synthetic field or the new hybrid grasses. They have some really durable naturals with great weather flexibility, and some really great partial synthetic weaves that are killing in Europa.

Bill King gave the ND turf a "No Balls of Steel" this morning and pretty much called the turf a joke from what he saw against Navy. Hard to disagree with him.

Michigan State is well known for its program too

Kelly commented to Alex at halftime about the sloppy field. This has to be fixed. ND has the best of everything and there is no reason they shouldn't have the best available turf solution. Forget a new building, if i'm a wealthy alum I want my name on a new field.

I believe Heinz field has the hybrid, the Steelers and the Packers led the charge on that stuff. So it should be in pretty decent shape

I can't find anything on what the current turf is. The last thing I see is that it is still grass.

I do recall somebody(the Ravens?) complaining about the turf at Heinz earlier this season.

Heinz field is always notoriously bad, they used to play on it 3 days in a row, HS, Pitt, Steelers on many weekends.

On the BGI board, Lou Somogyi said this about the current playing surface:

Jack Swarbrick isn't going to let this continue.

Dan Murphy also chimed in:

No official decision on that will be made until after the season. Kelly did say after the game that the situation was bad and that Jack Swarbrick would "take care of it. It will be handled."

Why the fuss about going to turf? It has to be difficult in a cold weather environment to keep a grass field up. Still, both teams have to play on it so it can't be an excuse, but turf would eliminate a sloppy field altogether.
