Will visit this weekend as noted than make a final decision. Will either go to Florida's banquet or ND depending on where he ends up at.

I sure would love to keep Alex on board as I think he will be a good player at the next level. I am not about to lose sleep though if he chooses Florida as I think we could get another high quality guy in here to take his place. Hope his visit this weekend seals the deal, if not then the best of luck to him.

It will be good to get this settled. I had not watched his tape till today and I note others comments about his play, I thought he looked really good. Clearly the best player on the field, would love to keep him.

I like this because it also could mean that Diaco is staying at ND. You know schools are gonna be calling.

I think you may be reading a bit too much into that.

Diaco's going to be coaching and recruiting his as$ off, regardless. Plus, most schools haven't made a determination yet on their coach. And if they have, I doubt they're going through back channels to talk to Diaco right now. Protocol is going through the head coach, his boss, anyway. Wayyyyy too much season left for Kelly and Diaco to be concerning themselves about a theoretical, for next year. Kelly has his entire TEAM (including his staff) focused on the task at hand right now, which at the moment, is Pitt.

I think Diaco would have to be offered a h/c job at a powerhouse school for him to walk away from what he has at ND. I can't see him leaving for anything short of a top contender in a BCS conference. Why would he? If it does not present itself this year, just hang on, it won't be more than two or three years before one of the big boys comes courting.

I would guess Diaco is more about becoming a NFL D-Coordinator. Just my random guess. But I think he's going to the league before he becomes a college head coach. He seems to really hate the camera.

if Texas offered? It would suck to play UT with Diaco as HC.

But I would give him a raise that puts him among the 5 highest paid ACs in the country, just in case.

I would give him anything he wants to keep him at ND. Obviously it's not my money to be throwing around and it's unreasonable to overpay an assistant coach, but what Diaco has done for this team goes beyond what the defense is doing on the field. He's an elite coordinator, coach, and recruiter, and it would be a damn crime to let him walk away.

When all of this nonsense started with Anzalone I thought that whoever kept the longest winning streak he would stick with. FL loses, he is visiting this weekend, and we secure him. I think Anzalone will sign with ND.

Yeah. He doesn't really seem like a head coach personality.
Remember his comments about how he didn't even like that his innocuous post-game speech made it onto the ND ICON video a few weeks back. Can't really see him glad-handing the alumni clubs or hanging with the crew on Gameday.
Or at least that's what I'm very much hoping.

Edit:
That said, he deserves a raise.

If you're in coaching, you want to eventually have your own program. Hope he sticks it out here and positions himself for a major job, though. I agree that I don't see him bolting for Toledo or Akron.

I'd like to point out that not all football coaches want to be a head coach.

I just contradicted that. Not everyone is like that.
