Can we not have this thread until the offseason? What in the hell made you think that this would be a good topic as we march into the title game?

I am considering a neg rep...

I don' t think the hatred towards BK for wanting these things is going to be so strong now. Time for polishing up on our traditions. Make them even more awesome. GO IRISH!!!!

Kelly is gunna get everything he wants this offseason

Not only is this a terrible topic of discussion at this time, but the thread already exists.

Fail on so many levels.

why cant we have grass? Wouldnt that be a great thing for a home field advantage? Not only would teams dread coming to play at ND because its hard to win but they would have to deal with the grass and maybe the mud if it rains and what not. Jumbotron is cool in my book but I want to keep the grass.

Since you're apparently on thread police duty today, there are about 30 other redundant threads that could use your attention.

As for the topic of this thread- $18 million for making a BCS should definitely go towards something shiny and new!

Woolybug you are correct this thread does exist, but it combines them with the twist for those who were against the idea. However now BK is proving himself so peoples views may change.

(Sarcasm font) Here's a start for the thread police: There's consecutive threads on all time winning percentage, a thread about someone's favorite part from last night that isn't in the post game observations thread, the Kyle brindza anyone thread isn't in his recruiting profile! The recruits reactions thread isn't in the recruiting section!!! This forum is sooo unorganized!!!!!!!!

I'm not too concerned with field turf but a jumbotron is perfect. Swarbrick and Kelly have the leniency to do whatever they want after this season.

$18 million? ND doesn't get a Full Conference Share. This 10/15/12 Forbes article puts ND's share at $6.1 million.

Playing In A BCS Bowl Game Would Mean A Big Payday For Notre Dame - Forbes

How much BCS money can Notre Dame expect to cash in on if its team continues to perform? Relying upon BCS figures from 2011-12, if Notre Dame plays in a BCS bowl game (i.e., the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and BCS National Championship Game), the school will receive $6.1 million. If Notre Dame does not play in a BCS bowl game, like it did last year when it participated in the Champs Sports Bowl, it will receive 1/66th of the net BCS revenue. Based on 2011-12 numbers, that would amount to $1.8 million. Thus, Notre Dame’s continued success and subsequent invitation to a BCS bowl game could mean the difference of $4.3 million to Notre Dame.

Keep in mind it expenses for a bowl game chew up $1+ million. So the net would be around $5 million. The football team isn't going to get to keep 100% of that either.

$5 million just for the BCS Bowl, not counting the absurd amount of merchandise they are about to sell. Let's face it, everyone on this site is going to have some shirts and mugs and everything they have with the ND vs. Bama championship logo. I have so much stuff from Butler's two Final Fours.

I imagine that the revenue stream is complex so what I say is speculation and supposition. I believe that any income earned by any given sport at ND is placed in a general fund. Whether there is a separate "pot" dedicated to athletic income and expense I don't know.

Regardless. The revenue positive sports not only support themselves but subsidize the revenue negative sports. I doubt that Rugby or Lacrosse (sorry LAX) are self-supporting. There are costs involved with facilities for both the teams and the entire student body.

The football proponents must justify their budget requests to a "higher power." The rowing, golf and tennis teams benefit from the success of the football and basketball teams. The students involved in "minor" sports benefit from their participation, as does the university.

Fair enough. The spirit of my post remains...

"something shiny and new"? or the thread police?

Regardless there's a hugh difference between spending a couple of million out of a net $17 million or spending 50% of a $5 million piece of the pie.

I thought the turf was a work in progress already from the previous thread on this topic.

Are you and the ND fanbase going to be content with a $750,000 jumbotron that high school's are putting in? Or will it have to be multimillion dollar giant screen with a couple million more for architectural modifications? Or should be just block off TD Jesus completely and save money?

Jenkins, et al still face rising costs campus wide in a recession. They'd do better to get some alumnus or fan to write a check. ThePiombino Jumbotron has cachet.

I think we should get 3 jumbos. 1 just for touchdown Jesus since it's hard too see since the last renovation to the stadium, and 2 like you would find in Dallas cowboys stadium. Just joking, but close.

I almost always agree with you, but I'd rather talk about this than carry on a conversation with my wifes friends that are over visiting. :)

Field turf is an absolute. I would love an HD screen as well. What I would like most is a bronze statue of Brian Kelly. I WANT ANOTHER BRONZE STATUE.

Put the Jumbo Tron in. We need to continue to liven up that stadium. Remember the movement to "StaND Up" at the beginning of the season, and we piped the music in for a full year? IMO the stadium was louder this year than it has been in a long time...and I'm talking from start to finish, not just when we were 6-0.
