He's one of the true believers. They've been conditioned to think open hostility and antagonistic lies are how you're supposed to behave at the podium. They don't know how to process a composed press secretary that traffics in facts.

Question: "What do you think of the stock market"

Answer: "We have a women treasure secretary"

Liberals: "good point"

I guess she did answer with a fact...

At no point was this an exchange that happened. It's a really weird default for "conservatives" right now to just make stuff up when things are going poorly for them.

Gotta complain about the new press secretary but completely quiet on active sedition, insurrection and undermining of democracy. Ok.

Is this like when Trump is asked to condemn white supremacy everytime someone puts a mic in his face?

Now every conservative has to codemn a capitol riot everytime they get onto Irishenvy forum?

We had varying degrees of dumpster fire from press secretaries for four years. Serial liars and unrepentant purveyors of misinformation.

Now you have a competent, emotionally balanced press secretary bringing some respect back to the public face of the White House and they are bending over backwards to cry about it. They're mad that their over-makeuped wannabe Barbie isn't up there anymore to lash out at "fake news."

I don't care what your political leanings are, if you want to pretend that Psaki is "worse" than McEnany or Sanders then you need to do some introspection. No rational human being who cares even the slightest about truth, facts, or respect believes Psaki isn't categorically better at her job than the deranged propagandists we've been subjected to recently.

It's akin to them complaining about Obama's tan suit after 8 years of no drama

We have good data residents in inner cities and minority voters have much longer wait times to vote than their white/rural/suburban cohorts. By making esrly/mail in voting harder you make election day waits longer everywhere. But much longer in disadvantaged areas. What % will stand in line one hour? Three? Six? Nine? The GOP figured out in tight elections if you can move even a percent or two in tight elections you win. Hence all the attempts to make voting harder. Dems want easier access to vote because it advantages them. They also happen to be in the right.

Did she ever circle back on the Air Force One color scheme? Could someone circle back to me on that?

If you cannot see the difference in tenor from the press then I don't really give a squat what you think about press briefings. And it's not just a Trump thing.

i would see the press are less likely to get antsy when they aren't being blatantly lied to by press secretaries

Maybe the tenor of the press has a lot that do with the tenor and veracity of the briefer? Nah, couldn’t be.

So you are suggesting that if Trumps Press Secretary would've had a better "tone" that they would've gotten questions about color schemes of Air Force One and what he missed about being a candidate?????? LOL.

I agree that Trump's confrontational approach made things worse, but will you agree that there has been a double standard for some time in the way the Press Room treats Presidents from the two parties?

I don’t think there is. Do you think Obama and Clinton weren’t asked tough questions? I think when the press is lied to they get pissed off ... no matter which party. The real question is which party lies to the press more brazenly?

LOL, That's all I needed to know. if a Republican President or his Press Secretary was ever asked about color schemes, I would fall over.

Wow so weird that the press has a different tenor when not being routinely belittled, antagonized, and lied to. I can't possibly see why the press would have a more adversarial relationship with an administration that calls them the "enemy of the people" and lied to their faces over 30,000 times.

I can go online and find 100 questions the press has asked that were throw-away softball question. Hell, Trump packed the room with OAN and FoxNews reporters who would ask pitch them softballs. One dumb question does not a pattern make.

No one can make that statement with a straight face. If Trump cured cancer the majority of the press would organize a march in support of tumors, with Jim Acosta leading the charge.

We are in the honeymoom period. Once the smell of moth balls and the presidents inability to complete a coherent sentence catches up to the press and their hatred of Trump tires I could see the media turning on him. Biden is the ugly rebound that just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Look. Trump was indisputably the worst president in history — completely incompetent in every conceivable way. And on top of it, he was a blatant liar and a belligerent asshole while doing it. I could make an argument that Trump got more passes from the press than anyone in history. He got away with shit that NOBODY else would get away with because he was such a dumpster fire that there wasn’t enough time in a day to report on all the shitty things he did. Meanwhile FoxNews blocked out a week of coverage about Obama wearing a tan suit.

Trump lied a lot and seemed to enjoy fighting with the media. Thats not a secret and a chunk of it was very much a creation of his own. Then again, there is no profession that deserves to be shit on and belittled more than them other than maybe some of the hokey college professors.

I'm too young to *really* remember Bush's dealings with the media, but he's a very likable guy, and I'm sure he got treated better than Donald did.

The best way I've seen anyone discuss Democrat dealings with the press is Ben Rhodes, was he a national security council guy or something?

Anyway, he straight up bragged about how easy it was to feed his talking points to young dumb reporters who'd basically create an echo chamber because it all seemed great to them.

Its not a secret that journalists are largely devoted Democrats. If you let me interview Jerome Bettis, or Brady Quinn, or Brian Kelly, chances are that I'll take much of what they say as established dogma unless it's really egregious. ("Actually we beat SC in '05.").

I recall seeing tweets from journos after the election celebrating that they will have an easier job now. I don't see why that would be the case. For the journal at school, I find it hatder to fix/edit/ check the accuracy of well written and footnoted articles than ones that are blatantly wrong. Essentially, it's easy to miss mistakes or incorrect assertions when you assume they are correct.

My favorite takes on liberal media generally come from Glenn Greenwald. Everyone has their token member of the opposite side they like but I think he generally does a good job articulating problems with American journalism.

I was young-ish, but I think his relations with the press started to sour his last few years in his 2nd term. For a President that had 9/11 in year 1, Iraq, and then ending on a sour note with the economic collapse and housing market stuff... sprinkle in the issues with Russia/Georgia I think the press did okay with Bush2. I think Jeb was probabaly seen as more deserving, I think Bush2 was seen as unqualified and slightly less polished and just riding on Dads legacy.

Your opinion of Trump is irrelevant. We're talking about the media's treatment and coverage of Trump, and your head is so deep in the sand you claim there's no difference in how they handled him versus Obama or even now with Biden.

People write books about this stuff so I'm not gonna waste my time writing a long, detailed response with countless examples. It's not hard to find.

But hey, "if you like your plan you can keep your plan."

"W" Bush was not seen as a bright bulb at all --- definitely riding Dad's coattails and Karl Rove's strategy. A friend of mine, a life-long fiery Republican who viewed Democrats as basically lower forms of existence, told me during the primaries running up to "W's" nomination: "This guy is an empty suit." (Exact quote.)
