think of it this way...Ted Williams batted over .400 the same year Dimaggion hit in 56 straight.
imo that was a much more heated debate (especially considering the teams they played for)
this one isn't even close in comparison...cabrera hands down and would be unanimous if trout didn't play in a heavy media market
Anaheim is a heavy media market? Heavier than Detroit?
Trout is so highly regarded in the debate because of his inhuman WAR, the fact that his team has had the best record in baseball since he has come up, and that he is elite both at the plate and in the field. Trout saved his team numerous runs in the field, while Miggy cost Detroit a fair amount.
If I had a choice of either one for just one at bat to decide a playoff game, I am choosing Miggy every single time and twice on Sunday. But if you ask me which I choose for a 162 game season, this season, it is really really hard for me not to say Trout. A leadoff hitter who hits for a crazy high average, draws walks, is elite at stealing bases, hits 30 homeruns (while missing a month), while being the best defensively at his postion? How can you really say no?
The triple crown is a massive accomplishment, and deserves special recognition. In any other season, there would be no debate. I just simply think the superior totality of Trout's game trump's Miggy's #1 bat.
