Anyone gone to Alaska? Not a cruise but flying up there then driving around?

I'd highly recommend flying into Anchorage and driving around, depending on how much time you have. Denali N.P. is a great place but you can only enter the interior of the park via bus for which you need tickets usually for the next day. Mount McKinley is visible on a clear day. Denali is an unforgettable experience with minimal impact on nature. Campground fees are reasonable, but the cost at wilderness lodges are expensive. Going north to Fairbanks and returning on Hwy 2 and the Richardson Highway brings you through a lot of wilderness and by Wrangell-St. Elias, ending at Valdez. Along the way, you can stop to hike up to a glacier and see how much it has retreated over the years. On the return trip south, you may not see many other cars, but probably moose and other wildlife. From there you can take a ferry to Seward past glaciers, orca, dolphins, etc. and drive around the Kenai Peninsula for the grizzly bears and salmon run in the summer. Twenty-four hours of sunlight may take some getting used to.

Looking to schedule a trip the first week of March but the dog sitter just had surgery apparently and not available...so, have to figure that out.

We’re thinking Myrtle Beech since it’s only a 10 hour drive. Anyone been there? Recommendations on golf courses?

Decided on a trip to Daytona instead...booked the flight today. First time I've been during Bike Week - any survival tips I need to be aware of?

Going to Vegas for the first time ever, Feb 26th through 29th.

Staying at the Flamingo. With my ~2 month pregnant wife.

We like Black Jack and I've learned Craps just in case for this trip.

Any "must do's" are appreciated, we have an open itinerary.

Funny, I'll be in Vegas this weekend and will be staying at the Flamingo also... The shows are prob the best one size fits all crowd-pleaser. Find the show that you and yours are most interested in. Food wise there are so many options but the good options are pretty expensive, so be warned. Most of the 'name' joints and cheaper options are trash. I always like the breakfast buffets but that goes back to my childhood as much as anything. Honestly, there are so many options I'd consider what you are into and build it around that. If you've never done Vegas ever I'd say walk the strip a bit, head towards MGM and just go with the flow... I'd def recommend a show though (I'd recommend one of the Cirque du Soleil shows probably but there are a ton of options) , which one depends on your taste/ time...

The Nine Fine Irishmen Pub is a nice place for some good tasting Irish food and beer selections. It's attached to the New York New York Casino. The night that my wife and I were there last March, they had a good Irish band playing as entertainment also.

Good call and I think they always have a band playing... Go early though, on a weekend it gets PACKED once the sun goes down.

Dude! Have you seen pics of me? If you see me yell. I'm ~5'9", 170, white boy, but could take 2018 Asmir in an Oklahoma drill.

Stupid question - can you walk into any casino/hotel and play casino games (Bellagio, Ceasar's, etc.).

And are any of those places' buffets "must try"? Any seafood buffets?

I do think we'll do the Cirque Du Solieil. I've heard Fremonte Street is great too, not sure if that's considered the strip or not, but we'll probably go there one week.

Yes you can play anywhere, most casinos will have select areas for poker games or high roller but even those you can just walk into most of the time. The vast majority of the casino floor you can just play and you can do so in any casino so while you walk the strip. Just pop into any hotel that looks like something you're into and just take part in whatever. Have money though, it can go real fast in Vegas if things don't go your way.

Rio has a nice seafood buffet. It's off the strip though so you can't walk to it. Take an uber over. Freemont is old town Vegas and far from the strip. You have to uber that too. It's older, more run down machine and gambling wise but fun enough. Prepare for a ton of smut though. It's everywhere. Freemont is worth doing if you've never been. That is the area of Vegas I grew up going to, cheaper,... back then it was open and didn't have the roof over the street. If you hit hard times gambling wise that would be a good go to for sure. Cheap food and free visuals from the roof and street acts etc.

Freemont is the only place in Vegas you can still find the old 80s/90s Keno machines... those things will pay out 1,600 on a dollar bet on a standard hit. Vegas started zoning those out about 20 years back because they didn't like the payoff/bet ratio. Some of the smaller Freemont casinos wisely bought the remaining ones up knowing it would be a draw.

Thanks for the insight. Seriously, if you see me, let me know.

We don't really play machines, we'll play small-game black jack or craps. But good to know you can come and go as you please throughout the hotel casinos/food places.

Tables are a good way to have fun for hours if you are disciplined and don't throw caution to the wind. Machines can clean you out quicker but can also pay out much better if you hit. Those keno machines are super 'old lady' but if you want to win big on small bets that;s your best option. Numerous members of my family have hit that 1,600 over the years.

Fremont St. is a must do just for the street performers. the old exteriors are pretty cool and a throwback to Vegas's beginnings. Spend about an hour or two. Last time we were there, there was a topless nun.

If you have a car, I would recommend a quick trip to Red Rock Canyon.

Have been to Daytona and loved it. It was not for a race week or for Bike week. Just a few thoughts:

1. Loved where we stayed. We stayed at the Wyndham Oceanwalk. Overlooks the ocean, has several pools with a pool bar (moderately priced cocktails and beers), has a putting green between pools, a few hot tubs, and easy access to the beach. Very cool to have vehicles able to drive on most parts of Daytona Beach but it is prohibited in front of the Oceanwalk. Connected to the Oceanwalk is a small shopping plaza with cool restaurants (Bubba Gump Shrimp, cool wing place with scantily clad ladies (still family friendly), Johnny Rockets 50s themed, and a Joe's Crab Shack (within walking distance maybe 200 yards). Also in the plaza are some cool stores, a movie theater, and Cold Stone Ice Cream along with a Pop Fizz candy/ soda shop. A few bars in there too to stop in for a few chillies while overlooking the ocean. The Oceanwalk Bandshell is connected and you can watch talented cover bands from your balcony. We were lucky and had Styx cover one night and a Guns N Roses the next evening. Next weekend was a Motown night and I think a Bon Jovi cover. Plenty of liquor stores nearby to load up and enjoy a free show. Also check with NASA and see if there is a launch scheduled. Saw a launch from the beach. Could still feel the ground shake. Pretty cool.

2. Lots of mini golf in the area. Cool, fun courses if that's something that you get into.

3. Cool greyhound track near the Daytona 500 track. Not sure if its still open but that was a blast. Kids enjoyed it and I gave them $5 a race to guess a dog and they got to keep the winnings.

4. Make it appoint to go to a minor league baseball game there. The Daytona Tortugas. This is the site that Jackie Robinson played his first game as a minor leaguer. They put on a good show, Wednesdays are all you can eat seats and those went for between 15 and 20 bones per seat but you leave there full and ashamed.

Some touristy things include escape rooms, trampoline parks, wineries, chocolate tours, and the Daytona Boardwalk. Stay off the roller coaster!!!! It had a pretty bad accident a few years back and right before we went too.

Boardwalk was cool but remember that it is a haven for the young teens the later in the night it gets. They have a sling shot, carnival games and rides, and some cool little places to eat. Security in the area is something that stood out as a positive. They are everywhere cracking down on the youngins who are up to no good but I never saw one officer looking to be a dick and any "talks" that needed to take place were warranted. All that I encountered were super friendly and helpful.

Last thing of note, there are LOTS OF HOMELESS everywhere. I heard it was an issue but found after 13 days there, we did not experience any issues. Was more sad really. They never once bothered us or asked for a handout. Gave a young kid my leftovers from Joe's Crab Shack one night but I offered it. Was never asked for it.

I would head to downtown Vegas, you will get better deals and the gambling has lower limits. If you want to try out a great brewery check out Able Baker Brewery which is in the downtown area with some great food and other breweries in the area.

If you are gonna do buffets make sure you sign up for the casino players card a lot of time they will offer a buy one get one on food.

The Golden Knights will have 2 games while you are there if you want to see a crazy hockey atmosphere.

If you want to get out of the city head to Red Rock Canyon, it is beautiful and only about 20 mins from the strip.

1.) Yes i forgot about the players cards... get one for any casino you play on playing more than 20 bucks in really...

2.) Forgot all about the Knights, great call on both of these... and if you're not a hockey fan koon, go to a live NHL game...

Thank you. Thinking about playing a round of gold while in town too. This Cypress Head looks pretty nice and not too pricey.

Oh, Koon,... if you like a good burger hit up The Burger Bar at the Mandalay Bay... you basically build your dream burger and they have like a dozen different types of patties (Sirloin, Kobe beef, Salmon, Bison etc...) and then a pretty substantial list of topping/cheese/bun choices...

Vegas is expensive I can't prepare you for that enough and this will be an expensive ass burger(~30 bucks for just the burger, sides like fries are extra), but it's good man. I've had a burger from there half a dozen times and every time I'm pleased. If you want a far cheaper option and have never had there is a In N Out not too far from the Tropicana too... it's a good burger for fast food and at least you can say you've had one if you haven't yet.

Las Vegas travelers that want a huge delicious meal without breaking the bank. Go to Battista's Hole in the Wall. It's walking distance away from the Flamingo. You will get a classic italian meal and the best part is they give you UNLIMITED WINE. Expect to spend no more than $50 per person including tip. It's very reasonable. Definitely make a reservation, though.

Nice... I'll look for that, I just found out I'm staying at the Flamingo and NOT the Tropicana as I originally thought... the Flamingo buffet serves breakfast until 2:00 Pm too and that's a huge plus. nothing is worse than going at it late, waking up at like 8:30 only for the rest of your party to move slow thus making it so you JUST MISS breakfast at the buffet... lunch buffets suck ass.

This sounds awesome. I can't remember if I mentioned but she's pregnant so not sure she'd go for this, but it sounds awesome.

Acamp - noted on the Burger Bar.

Only things for sure:

-Breakfast buffet tomorrow morning after I get in (I get in super f'ing early)
-Doobie Brothers tomorrow night (actually the whole point of the trip if you can believe that, my buddy has this classic rock bucket list and he's crossed off almost every act, one of the few remaining is tDB and I'm like the only friend he has that also likes classic rock enough to go to a concert lol)
-Pool on Thursday
-There is some retro arcade bar in town he wants to hit up

Everything else is pretty much going with the flow.
