Coach Alford will be missed, he did an awesome job at ND. He was bound to move on. Hope BK can get a good replacement, as recruiting will be impacted losing TA and KC. Say some extra Hail Mary's.

Man I hope this doesn't lead to outside the top 20 recruiting classes. Good luck Tony!

It won't affect recruiting. I hereby nominate Katy Perry for running backs coach. We can let her recruit Texas, Florida, and Caleefornya collectively.

Greg Bryant's two cents..

To paraphrase one of the new IE posters over in the Signing Day thread, ND must offer a credit course to football players in Cryptic, Ambiguous, Fear-Inducing Tweeting.

I mean at the end of the day I can't really jump on board when It comes to our Rb's performance. We lost a great recruiter but game day performances are a different topic. This was a lateral move for TA so I wouldn't overlook BK's interest to move on.

It wasn't lateral. He's an assistant head coach as well.

You're correct altho that label is just that. No real power other than that

Maybe, maybe not. The label gives the perception that his career is still on the upswing instead of stuck as a position coach.

That's completely untrue. It's (typically) a lot more responsibility in administrative tasks of the team, is a huge resume boost and something he can speak to in interviews, and comes with a sizable pay increase.

Ok, I can agree lateral might be a stretch but I don't see the pull. Urban and Brian are a lot closer than many want to see. I'm just saying we may have wanted a fresh start with whom is leading our Rb's

definitely sucks to lose Alford but that is life, he is going to kill it at OSU now that he can get practically every kid he wants admitted. He will probably only be there for a year or two before he gets a HC gig though

Thankful for everything Coach Alford did for us. We had no business landing some of the recruits we have landed over the years if it wasn't for this guy. One of the better people in this business. Good luck at OSU coach, now he can land anybody he wants and gets to be tutored by the best coach in the country.

Brian Kelly your move and for some reason not to be negative, but I don't see it being the splash we need

I guess that's what confused me: we know GB is close to Alford, but the tweet seems pretty sanguine for a guy tweeting a departing coach (esp one he's close to), ie, it seems kind of laid back; I'd expect an "oh no" or maybe nothing at all. Anyway, you're probably right. Thanks.

I'm just glad Alford stayed through signing day but I wish it wasn't Ohio State. But we'll survive.

GB is probably thinking a new coach means a better opportunity to impress for playing time.

Per II not sure if this has been discussed but Alford feels like part of the reason he wasn't considered highly for the CSU job is because of his job title. Also he called Kelly and Kelly didn't call him back for a couple hours and offered him assistant head coach job but it was to late.

ND has like a $7 billion endowment but refuses to pay coaches to not upset rest of staff

Some shit will never change, and now that Kelly, and his recruiting has been kicked squarely in the nuts......I just don't see him hiring the dynamic recruiters that he needs to replace what he's lost in the past two weeks.....hell, the past week for that matter.

No one thought Cooks could recruit well until he picked it up the past two years.

So once again Kelly has a negative situation because he didn't call his assistant back for hours knowing what was going on. Kelly needs to change his ways or he might have hit his highest rung on the ladder.

If Alford couldn't wait for 2 hours, he was as good as gone prior to the call.

We'll see. Alford is obviously a good recruiter, but was he great, or was he simply a good recruiter implementing the recruiting plan laid out by his boss? That remains to be seen.

I thought Cooks did a damn fine job considering ND hadn't recruited well at all in Texas since Bob Davie was in South Bend.......and let's not forget the inroads he made in Louisiana!!! That takes time, and yes, granted it took some time before Cooks started to deliver, when he has, it's been quite good!!!

Moose, Alford is a dynamic recruiter......no ifs, ands, or buts about it!!! Did he land 5* talent routinely????? No, but he landed kids that, otherwise wouldn't have ended up in South Bend, or a few that we had no business landing......the man works his ass off on the recruiting trail......something not easily replaced!!!!
