I don't get this mentality. Either you are an ND guy who believes in ND and where the program is going or you aren't. It's OK if he isn't a believer. He's allowed to believe what he wants, but if he isn't a believer screw him. I'm all for him going, and no, I won't feel neutral about him if he does this.
Loyalty and culture should mean something. I'm an ND alum and ND has a pull on me. If you take money out of the equation, which seems to be the case, then there's no decision to be made if you really believe in the ND program. Yeah, Bama wins national championships but the current coaching staff, including Rees, has stated they believe ND is reaching that level. Restoring ND's previous glory should have as much or more allure than going to a program that is already at the mountaintop.
We live in an odd culture where, increasingly, we think it's a positive to continue to chase the shiny object instead of valuing what you have.
Yeah, if money is an issue then maybe that changes the equation. But it's not in this case. If an ND man has a choice between Bama and ND with money being equal he should choose ND every time... unless he doesn't believe in the program. And if he doesn't believe in the program then screw him.

TR should have been the starting QB at Northern Illinois for two years, but ND saved him
TR should have been forgotten after playing QB at ND, but nepotism allowed him to even be in this position, another ND save
He is effectively pissing in the face of the only reason he’s relevant.
He effectively was born on third and thinks he hit a triple.

Where are all the people who didn't want Tommy as OC? Who said he wasn't in the upper tier of OCs? Now Bama is working to take him and they usually have their pick amongst top candidates.

Lets be real, ND OC to Alabama OC isn't a lateral move. Our OCs have wound up as MAC coaches or not retained in the case of Long. Alabama OCs end up at P5 programs or the NFL. On the other hand, I think Tommy has proven a lot with a limited roster the last few years and they've built a offense for 2023 that is primed to breakout. I think he could land a good job if they crush it this season.

It can be true BOTH that he is a middling at best OC AND is it harmful to the program, or more precisely, the health of an actually decent QB room, for him to be leaving right now.
I’m not sad he’s gone. I’m sad that will probably shake up the QB situation.

A few people have posted that he is like the their 9th choice after being turned down by Joe Brady, Moorhead, etc. I have no idea if that’s true but the Bama board does make it seem like this is not what they had in mind.

Let's not get it twisted, I don't think the reason OC at ND hasn't been a huge step ladder is because of ND. And I don't think the reason OC has been a step ladder at Bama is per se because of Bama.
Our DCs have been getting primo positions out of ND for years (removing Elko because we didn't match $ because we didn't want to). It's pretty clear to me that the ND OC talent wasn't up to snuff under most of Kelly's tenure. Thats not an ND problem. Meanwhile Bama has been hiring absolutely primo A1 talent at OC since Kiffin.

I like Tommy as OC. I want Tommy to stay at ND for one more season. If he turns down ‘Bama, great. I also understand the logic behind going to ‘Bama for a season or two. Soak up as much knowledge about defense from one of the greatest coaches of all-time before you head to the NFL.
All I ask of him is he run up the score on LSU.
