How do you get recruited to top D1 schools for LAX and not have any footwork or speed?

It's honestly befuddling. FDNYIrish1 might know better than I... I'm not the most dialed in to the Long Island lacrosse scene. I coach in a different part of the country.

But my understanding is that he was strong, athletic, and shot well in HS.

I don't understand how he has zero lateral quickness. I can tell you with absolute certainty that every single midfielder currently on Notre Dame's team would show more athleticism playing QB than Coan does right now.

He was chugging Wisconsin dairy by the gallon in Madison. It happens. That and fried cheese curds.

He missed a year due to a foot injury and didn't even get a shot to compete for the job when he came back. I'm guessing that's because Jack Coan returned but his mobility did not.

Certainly happened with Zaire after the ankle injury. He wasn't the same guy.

Our QB situation is more fucked up then the government. We keep running a sub par option as the starter. Pyne’s second half of the Wisconsin should have earned him some credit. I understand the TB has more upside than Pyne. Coan isn’t good enough o be here this year let alone a second year. Sound he is here that’s gonna be bad bad news for the team. And if he is here that means Pyne is gone as well.

Oofta. Directly effective, IMO. The two worst entities/groups I can think of TBH.

Nothing is more screwed that our federal government. Our states forgot that they are the ones that gave control to the federal government and not the other way around

If the OL has really turned a corner I'm fine with Coan being the starter. He doesn't seem shy about attacking 1 on 1's, which is good for keeping defenses honest, but at the same time our WRs really haven't been super consistent either.
That said I still think Pyne or Buckner give us the best chance to maximize this offense, but for whatever reason Pyne doesn't seem to be in the picture after Cincinnati which is troubling. I hope Buckner can stay healthy going forward.

Prediction - Offense will look better, but that's only because we are playing worse defenses. ND ends up in a NY6 bowl game and the offense sputters, leading to a rehashing of the same arguments of the last 4/5 weeks.

Not sure who decides when TB enters the game but he should be in there on all red zone possessions inside the 10. Plus that interception of first and 10 was an unnecessary play call when we had plenty of momentum going in the ground game.

I just want to say this is one of my favorite characters ever whether we're talking movies or shows. MM killed the role and the writing was fantastic. Wish the subsequent seasons would've been as good. Quality GIF Whiskeyjack.

I thought the tempo worked really well, helped keep them off balance. We should have had a lot more points, but the Austin drop at the goal line, the bad hold on the FG, and taking a knee instead of running up the score meant we left 17 points on the field. Final score could have been a lot worse for FUSC

We didn’t even have to punt. Great job by Rees and the offense being extremely more efficient than they have been all year.

We punted with a 3 and out our first series of the second half.

One thing that seemed a bit more clunky than usual was RB substitution pattern. I know KW played more than usual and got more touches than usual and they couldn't play him every down (nor should they). But there were two drives where I wondered "why"? The first was after Bo's INT'. It was 7-0 and you just got the ball on the 4. I like Logan Diggs, but that one seemed a bit strange to me. But with the quick change, might have been too difficult to pull Diggs at that point.

The other was coming out of the locker room for that 3 and out. C'Bo got 2nd half start, which again, I am sure it was based on a pre-determined pattern. But USC just missed a FG and momentum was up for grabs. That first drive should be the tone setter. Seems strange not to have KW in there.

Both are probably more on Lance Taylor, but I am still surprised it happened that way.

Still skeptical of Rees as an OC until I see him recruit and develop an elite QB.

This offense is so boring and bland compared to the elite teams.

Really surprised Rees doesn't want his QB's to do this more. Or surprised he hadn't, even with 3 year vet Ian Book. That was Rees's biggest advantage as a QB or what made Tommy, Tommy. His ability to read/diagnose pre-snap.

This is from Kelly's presser yesterday.

Everything Brian Kelly Said Monday Ahead of Notre Dame-UNC (247sports.com)

"Tempo seems to be an ally for us within this offensive structure. Look, it's never really been about the plays, as much as how are the play is going to be executed at its most consistent level. This has been about consistent execution. Sometimes you have to huddle and it takes time to see it and scan it. This offense and this group and the quarterback in particular seems to work better if there's a pace to it. He's a guy that makes quick decisions and seems to operate based upon what we had seen leading into the USC game, that the snapshots of his effective and efficient play was tempo driven. So, we said, alright, let's run this one up flagpole and see if it works. Look, we're trying to do the same things. We're trying to find out how to best utilize and get the best version of our players. That was what we went to work at in the off week, to take those kind of best moments and it really centered around quick drops, getting the ball out, quicker reads. You saw we were reading the box for the first time this year. Our run game now was predicated on what the box looked like. We hadn't done that up to this point and it was really effective. I would tell you that there'll be more to come."

I see this a lot, so I'm not targeting you, BUT...

TR the OC and TR the QB coach should be considered two separate entities. I feel like he's coming along as an OC -- learning on the job unfortunately, but learning nonetheless. There is promise IMO. As for QB recruiter/developer? Well, that remains to be seen and (SO FAR) has left a lot to be desired. I think Buchner's development and who Tommy can recruit to go with Angelli in '22 and/or the '23 class will go a long way in determining that...

We’ve run basically every scheme and personnel known to man besides gimmicky OL and hash splits which we’ll never do if you want to keep being OLU. There is no set Tommy Rees scheme, yet, which has advantages and disadvantages, but not for lack of imagination or trying
