Smith is just lucky Rock took the high road and didn’t light him up after he sat back down. You could tell he thought about doing it for one second before he decided to be the bigger man and move on with the show. Between his stupid Scientology bullshit and him being a cuck while his wife fucks their pool boy Rock could have gone nuclear on his ass.
Yeah, Chris definitely took the high road. He could've gotten savage with some comments about being a cuck and such. My first thought when watching Will yell about keeping his wife's name out of his mouth was that Chris could've said some choice things about Will just being upset because his wife couldn't keep some things out of her mouth. My respect for Rock went up enormously. I wouldn't have handled it nearly as well as he did. Will can go pound sand from here on out.

I don't know...feels like Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler all over again. Some people think it was staged like that. Rock certainly didn't seem to sell the hit much, so either it was a work...or Will Smith is pathetic. It's really weird how Will was all smiles before the confrontation and even had a smile on the way back to his seat, which kind of lends itself to being a work, but who knows.

I've seen a lot of comments about it on Twitter tonight. Funniest: "If Chris wanted to say something that wouldn't make Will mad, he should have said he was sleeping with his wife." Daaaaaamn. Second place: "Looks like he's movin' back in with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air."
I thought he had a little smile on his way back to his seat. While Rock is talking the camera, it shows Smith and he appears to be smiling, but Jada has a pissed look on her face. I wonder if she said something to Will which is why he went up on stage? Really weird regardless.

I asked my wife what she would want me to do in that instant. Her first response was if I’m struggling with the vanity and pain of alopeocia then don’t laugh ( as Will did just like everyone else) and to do whatever you do occur not in public. She didn’t want violence in any case. But Jada clearly didn’t appreciate the joke and only then did Will do what he did. Overall I think will knew he messed up and he chose violence. In any case I think Jada was upset, rightfully or not, at the joke. I’d think it was the best joke he could have done if he was going to hit her with it as GI Jane was a big deal in the day for female empowerment. I’d have thought Jada could have taken it better but she appears to publically acknowledge shaving her head has been very hard to deal with. I guess fucking a pool boy and having a son with gender issues might be adding to the internal family drama on both their parts.

I thought it was staged too until Chris tries to get back on track and stumbled over what he was saying about giving out a “documentary” and looked at back stage a couple times like…. “We ain’t going to commercial or something right now?”.

Zero excuse for it. Period.

Nobody in the room did a damn thing and minutes later they all gave him a standing ovation. Then, as it typical in 2022 society, he doubled down on his actions in his speech. Denzel rooting him on. No remorse, no apology. Justification.

It's yet another example of how humanity has lost the plot. In this instance, it was a famous and very well know person doing something in front of the world on live television.

Gross. Lost an incredible amount of respect for him.

People watch award shows?
This. I couldn’t care any less at this point. The most shocking thing to me may actually be that so many seemed to have watched it live, not what actually happened

Honestly that was assault no matter how you look at it and I dont like seeing comedians attacked over good or bad material but I also love seeing racists get the ever loving dog shit slapped out of them when they saying their material soooo Im kind of torn...

My six year old was pissed at the rendition of "We Don't Talk about Bruno."

I think the gas prices are just getting to her. So hopefully she doesn't slap someone at school.

I’m trying to understand how you’re bringing race into this incident…….Weird how obsessed some are with looking at nearly everything through that prism, but you do you

I think it’s clear Will Smith has significant mental issues if that’s his reaction based on the circumstances. I have always been a big fan of his, but this is disgusting and sad at the same time.

Im commenting on my own personal assessments on whats acceptable with physical violence in response to someone exercising their free speech lol. I know its never right to use violence against someone who is just speaking. Im specifically thinking about racists who got slapped for calling others racist words and Im like well he got what was coming to him. Im honestly confused by my own assessments lol. Relax. Im not viewing the world in the manner you are saying. Im acknowledging the fact that Im ok with nasty hateful people getting bitch slapped and not ok with a comedian getting assaulted for a joke. There is a line there and I dont know where it is. Thats all. If you know where it is let me know. Please take your judgements elsewhere. People will argue that having free speech to tell jokes is the same as having free speech to saying whatever you want including calling people racial epithets. This isnt even remotely obscure or incendiary. It happens everyday all over the world. Relax.

For example I have zero fucking problems with this response. Thats just me though. Its assault for sure. Just like Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage for telling a joke. Essentailly I fall into the "Fuck Around and Find Out" camp. If you want to test the waters and go to an Applebees and tell a grown ass black man there is a difference between a black person and a n&*#$R , then you gonna eat something. Might be a salad, might be the floor.

The act itself was just brutal, but the way everyone just carried on and pretended nothing happened has sort of become the norm in society today. Not that I would expect different behavior from a room full of actors at the Oscars. Easier to just be quiet, try to fit in and belong. Denzel Washington was coddling him during commercials. It's ridiculous.

Whatever this dude might be "going through" is no excuse to do what he did, in any setting, and to think that everyone knows what trials and tribulations you're enduring just because is the mark of a real narcissist. None of us are mind readers. This should have been the crowing moment of his professional life, but he completely tarnished it.

I was a freshman in high school, age 14, and I threw my first and only punch on the bus. I was being harassed by a classmate for several minutes. Tried ignoring him, asked him to leave me alone, he kept badgering me, so I clocked him in the face. Right as the bus came to my stop. Two things happened: 1) I was scared of what I had just done 2) Nobody ever f*cked with me for four years.

In addition, masks or no masks I think it is going to take a while for a lot of the general population to ease back into being in public places again with large numbers of people. The frustration, anger and isolation these last few years has done a toll on a lot of people mentally. Entitled actors and otherwise. I am already seeing it out and about these last few weeks at stores, sporting events, etc. Social skills and interaction are a tad "Off" and to some degree it is understandable.

This. He sucker punched/slapped someone who clearly had no expectation of being hit. That's a cheap shot and cowardly. The other celebs applauding him minutes later as if nothing happened was puzzling. If he'd done this to a child or a woman, everyone would've scorned him, booed his acceptance speech (and notable lack of any apology to his victim), and walked away from him. That it was a man, instead of a woman or child or old person whom he sucker punched, doesn't make it OK. I'm especially surprised by Denzel. This seemed out of character for him to not denounce this instead of condone it.

Will Smith just handed Chris Rock 30 minutes of new material. Rock showed incredible restraint, against his nature, in not lighting up the Oscars last night with a scorching rant.

Rasputin can't wait for The Comedy Central Roast of Will Smith, hosted by Chris Rock. Chris will probably want to get his brother The to co-host just in case.

Strangest thing I’ve ever seen. I thought it was a bit watching it live.

The academy should rescind his award. He didn’t deserve it to begin with.

Smith would beat the dogshit out of Rock. Smith isn't lucky, he was ready to fuck Rock up and Rock didn't respond.

Having said that, it was a dumb move by Smith. He could've avoided laughter or some other move to show his distaste for the joke. Definitely should've lost his award and should've been thrown out for violence. Same thing for anyone who gets violent with the presenter.

I mean, have you seen how hard Ricky Gervais went after people on the Golden Globes?

I'm kinda curious what Denzel meant by his comments to Will. He said something like "The devil always comes when we're at our highest." Is he talking about Will not showing restraint in hitting Rock, or is he talking about Rock's joke? I've have to go rewatch it, but I initially took it as Denzel saying "You need to not give in to temptation, show restraint."

That's what gets to me about this whole thing. Will and Jada are Scientologists in an "open" marriage. So she can literally take in other men, but she can't take a joke about shaving her head? Those applauding Will for "defending her honor" can't be serious. Put in the most favorable light possible, that was the action of a brittle emasculated man who isn't allowed to push back on all the bullshit that's actually undermining his marriage, so Rock ends up as the whipping boy.

Hollywood sneers at the old codes of honor that might have justified Will's actions. He ought to be railing against the toxic pseudo-religion that's warped his family, not a comedian who made a weak joke about his wife's hair.

Have you ever read the book “Sex and Rockets” about Jack Parsons, the JPL and the occult? Aleister Crowley makes an appearance as does a preScientology L Ron Hubbard.

No, but it's on my list. Explains a lot about current affairs when you realize that many of our elites are probably possessed.

It was kind of assumed WS was going to win Best Actor. So he goes and does this minutes before the award was presented. That's what I took from it. He completely soiled the highlight of his acting career. It's all anyone is going to remember.

I had the Oscars on as background noise while I was reading Ryan Leaf's book "596 Switch". My kids stayed up to see the Encanto peformance of "We Don't Talk About Bruno", which my six year old referred to as "poopy caca."

Quite possibly the most random Sunday night ever.
